My husband was hesitant about booking the Roadrunner because he likes luxurious, modern accommodations, but he agreed to give it a try and we had so much fun. The owner was friendly and we loved meeting Elvis, the motel pup. We sat outside by the fire pit and reminisced about our childhood road-trips in the 1960’s. The bed was comfortable, the AC kept us cool, and the Magic Fingers were a fun blast from the past. This may not be the place for everyone, but we thoroughly enjoyed it, and my husband is interested in trying more properties that are unique.
I love everything about this lodge. I loved the decor, the music playing on the radio in our room when we arrived, the moon pies, the highly absorbent towels, the sanitary wrap around the toilet when you got there, the great water pressure in the shower, the gift shop with fun stuff reminiscent of hotels in the 60’s, and the very nice staff that help make the whole experience fun. The rooms open to the outside and at night an enclosed fire is lit that you can sit by and visit with other guests. I’m sad to say I didn’t get to enjoy that part because I was tired from a long day of travel but my husband did. He even took his guitar out and played a few songs. They have a great pet area too. Just know check- in doesn’t start till 4. I can’t wait to return to this lodge.
Plenty of easy parking. Friendly and easy check in. Spacious modern room with lots of retro touches. I loved the old radio playing 50s music when we arrived. There are a few restaurants nearby and although it was nice to have a walk around the neighbourhood there is very little around.
The staff were very friendly, quick check in. There were waters and Moon Pies in the spotless room which had been pre-cooled for us. Loved the 60’s decor! The water pressure was great and the towels huge and fluffy. We were on motorcycles so appreciated the short walk to restaurants. Overall one of the best hotel stays of our entire 10 day trip.
We stayed here during a cross country road trip and we’re very satisfied with our stay. From being warmly greeted by Elvis at check in to discovering the fun treasures in the snazzy 60’s room, to walking to quaint restaurants for dinner and breakfast, we had a wonderful time. The bed was super comfy and the room was sparkling clean. We parked right outside our door. We ate dinner at Del’s, a short walk down the road and had a quick breakfast at the diner across the street.
We stopped here for one night on a road trip. I have always wanted to stay in a vintage motel and this met every expectation and then some! The room was not only cute and functional, it was also very comfortable. We loved all the attention to vintage details, comfortable bed, and the nice towels in the bathroom. Took advantage of the table and chairs outside of our room but because of an early start the next morning, did not get to sit and enjoy the grass area. We enjoyed the magic fingers bed and put a few quarters in that machine! Loved that they had a small personal fan in the room. They were very kind to us when we arrived a bit early but they really do have a check in time of 4:00 so don't plan to arrive early.
Outstanding stay at this quaint throwback motel on Rt66. The management was helpful beyond measure and allowed me an early checkin after a long day on a motorcycle. The room was styled in the heyday of Rt66 but absolutely spotless with retro/antique furnishing and a fabulously comfortable bed. The outstanding view of Mount Tucumcari was the icing on the cake! Highly recommended!
I came through on 6/18-19/2022 while riding Route 66 with 40 women (Chix on 66) and this place was AMAZING! Super clean and infinitely comfortable. The owners were very accommodating and gracious. The personal touches in the room were much appreciated. I will stay here every single time I come through Tucumcari. Thank you, Roadrunner Lodge!
The Roadrunner lodge truly delivers a unique experience for Tucumcari and along Route66. A sense of nostalgia in every detail and an overall wonderful experience. Even though the rooms make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, they are fully up to date with comfortable beds, linens, and of course Wi-Fi and TV. The rooms are clean and spacious and they’ve got the best crew in town!
The Roadrunner Lodge is a solid, comfortable hotel for the money. Not a lot of fluff and frills but a quiet room, comfortable bed and the owner checks you in. Seriously, what more can a weary traveler ask for. It’s far enough off I-40 and US 54 so that you’re not hearing trucks all night but close enough to be convenient for the overnights on both routes. Stayed here on three different trips and each one has been a restful night. At my age, these are like finding gold. There are a couple of other good hotels on the 66 strip in Tucumcari and I have tried them. None beat the Roadrunner. Final note, the air conditioner pumps plenty of cold air and doesn’t sound like an Airbus taking off.
