Roger and Ann are just fantastic hosts to stay with. Their small retreat is a much welcome change of pace from a motel if you are a simple needs traveler and don't mind interacting with nice people! From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel welcome and at home. Birch St. Retreat is in a quiet residential neighborhood, and you will feel like you are staying with old friends. Recommend!

My friend and I came down from Albuquerque for a couple of days and found the accommodation very nice, homey, clean, comforting and convenient. My friend was initialy a little put off and skeptical about the closeness in proximity to Roger and Ann's place - just on the other side of a door curtain - but warmed up the next day when Ann popped in and offered breakfast. I was not aware breakfast was included - but both of us were very pleased with the quality and quantity of the food as well as the quality of the hospitality that Roger and Ann extended. We had a fabulous last day with them hanging out, going to lunch, doing a wine tasting, all over good conversation of the deep and playful kind - good will abounded - charm oozed - and all was genuine and unique. They are two of the most wonderful people I have ever met, and their capacity to welcome you and bring you as deeply into their lives as you wish to go is very unusual. May not be everyone's cup of tea - but I will definately be going back. The only criticism I have is that the web site implies that for two nights you get a massage each/a private soak and public soak austensibly for the low price of $150. In point of fact Roger's massage was an extra $50 and we paid an extra $10 each for the private soak. Still a great price for what you get.

This little gem in the Hot Springs District of T or C offers a package including sulfer-free hot mineral water soaks at Riverbend (directly on the Colorado River), a massage by Roger Swanson's magical healing hands and then an overnight at Roger and Ann's charming retreat. It is all very local to this arts center town, and the rooms are decorated with the owners' personal collection of art and artifacts. One highlight is the big walk-in shower entirely lined with local stones they have collected and featuring multiple shower heads for your (and maybe your partner's) relaxation and enjoyment. And Ann and Roger are happy to share their depth of local knowledge on just about any subject. My wife and I have made a stay at Birch Street an annual event for each of the past five years and always leave revitalized and looking forward to the next time.

We celebrated my girlfriends birthday in T or C and stayed the first leg of our trip with Roger and Ann. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE! They are some of the sweetest people we've ever met, the accommodations were clean, comfortable and stocked full of goodies. Roger did body work on both of us and I would highly recommend getting a massage from him. We upgraded to 90mins each (good idea cause Roger will make you melt) He also cooked us an awesome pancake breakfast, with flour he had milled himself! They recommended some hiking trails nearby that were fantastic. There were other guests staying when we were there and you could barely tell that there were other people in the house. They have remodeled the entire interior recently and its so clean and beautiful! Make sure to say hey to Sammy (their tortoise) and their 2 loving dogs while you are there

After traveling from Tucson, this Bed and Breakfast was a welcome resting place. The house is very clean and beautifully designed and modeled. My wife and I talked with the couple who own the house and run the B&B and found out that they did the remodeling. The breakfast was delicious even though my wife and I requested completely different food (I'm a vegetarian and she needs meat.) The owners recommended that we walk over to the hot springs along the Rio Grande, which we did. The walk was a 5-minute gentle stroll through a quaint, shady part of town. There was a nominal fee to enter the hot springs which are an excellent place to unwind after driving several hours. The hot springs are nicely designed and very clean. The owner is also a massage therapist. We will stay there again whenever we travel out east. Next time, we plan to get a massage too.
