We stayed for 2 nights at this luxurious safari lodge in July 2022 with our two children aged 10 & 14. The room was a two bedroom villa with a central lounge area and outdoor plunge pool, although due to the low outside air temperature at this time of year only the kids were brave enough to use the pool. The villa was lovely with electric blankets on the beds for the chilly nights and directly overlooked the plains and watering hole. On arrival we could see springbok and ostrich from our bedroom. The kids had Shamwari branded baseball caps, backpacks and spotting guides which was a nice touch. We arrived late afternoon and thought we may be too late for a game drive but Shamwari said we could go as soon as we arrived so we went immediately after dropping off our luggage. On that first game drive we saw 4 white rhinos and elephants highlighted by the setting sun. The food is excellent, although very rich, which was fine for the two days we were there but possibly too heavy for a longer stay, The lodge was all inclusive for food and drinks and they were extremely generous in pouring my wife's wine. The lodge also has a communal pool which we didn't use again due to the time of year. Our ranger was Keenan and he was very knowledgeable and educated both the kids and us on the various game we saw along the way on our private game drive. We saw elephants, buffalo, lions, rhinos including a black rhino and witnessed the beginning and aftermath of a cheetah kill, amongst a myriad of the smaller animals, birds and antelope. We had two 3 hour game drives a day, one after breakfast at 8am and one 3:30pm. These times gave you longer in bed in the morning but meant that during the day there was little free time once you had lunch. We stayed at another lodge where the game drive went out at 6:30 which gave longer downtime during the day, but meant a 5:30am wake up call. We are not sure which we preferred as both had different benefits and drawbacks. We also visited the Born Free Foundation that is based here and learnt about the wonderful work they do with trafficked animals returning them to a more natural environment. We would definitely come again but probably stay for another night as two was a fraction too short. One suggestion for the lodge would be to provide hot water bottles for the morning game drives as it was pretty chilly first thing. Thanks for a lovely stay and we will be back.

This was our first time visiting shamwari and it definitely won’t be our last. We stayed at Bayethe lodge where the staff where nothing but welcoming and tended to all our needs. The chefs food was outstanding. Our ranger Mino was really what made the experience so worth it, he went above and beyond in showing us all that we could see and made the whole experience something I will never forget and am truly grateful for. Overall the Bayethe lodge was beautiful and had everything you’d ever need with staff that made you feel right at home. Thank you thank you Shamwari.

If you’re reading this to see if you should book or not - don’t think for another second, book! My husband surprised me with 3 nights for our honeymoon and it took my breath away! From all the details, being welcomed into our room with some MCC, personal card and treats - to the decor in the dining area - to the hot water bottle for the cold winter morning game drives, it couldn’t have been more idyllic! Jason our ranger was like our very own encyclopedia, he knew everything and even threw in the odd dad joke here and there ;) The dining staff are incredibly friendly and professional, really adding to the whole experience of total relaxation. Joe, the CEO is by far the kindest person I have ever met!! Taking the time to sit with us at tea and get to know us. I thank everyone at Shamwari and can’t wait to come back!! This place is what I imagine heaven to be!

We stayed a Sindile Lodge for 2 nights- really well appointed rooms with own private heated splash pool and deck and an outdoor shower all overlooking a plain full of game. Food really excellent and logic's been applied so so meals are substantial but well spaced. The staff are super friendly and happy to accommodate any request. Our ranger Mino really looked after us and tailored the game drives to the needs of the guests. Modern land cruiser game vehicle for close up game viewing. Great to meet the hands-on CEO Joe Cloete who is at the coal face ever day overseeing the lodge workings.

We stayed in the Sindile Lodge for our honeymoon, and were hugely impressed. All of the staff at the lodge were friendly and wonderful. The service was great. Food was amazing, definitely no risk of going hungry! Our ranger, Mino, really added to the experience, he was accommodating and full of knowledge! 3 days just wasn’t enough! We will definitely be coming back.

We had such an amazing time at Shamwari. We were welcomed like family by Bonolo from the moment we arrived at Long Lee Manor. The staff was awesome and very welcoming, from our awesome guide Josh who attempted to pass on all of his knowledge about the flora and fauna. We also were able to spend time at the amazing Sindile with KG and Anele, whom we will never forget. They were absolutely wonderful in every way. The entire staff went above and beyond to assist us when we were "stranded" for an additional 4 nights due to Omicron. Couldn't have asked for a better place to be "stuck". After the first couple of days we asked ourselves what more could we see, we had seen all of the animals that we expected. However, every game drive was different, either siting new animals or just seeing the animals in a different situation.

This was the adventure of a lifetime!  No detail was left undone. There were fairies everywhere. It started with being met at the airport by our driver. Upon arrival at the reserve, we were greeted by Maria and offered tea. She then walked us to our room and explained what was available and when. After settling into our room, we experienced our first dining experience. This set the standard for our entire stay - Spectacular!  Next up was meeting Josh, our Guide. Now it was time for the afternoon Safari drive. Our first afternoon drive included two male lions lounging in the shade, followed by monkeys swinging in the trees and a couple of endangered black rhinos. This set the STAGE for the remaining 6 days! Not sure how they did it, but every day was better than the day before! Even though our Guide changed due to regular days off, Sihle was fortunate to take us under his wings. The indepth knowledge shared by both guides was impressive. Sihle secretly  arranged for an afternoon “bush lunch”, which was delicious. We had the opportunity to go on 2 bush walks. WOW! Our room was always serviced without a siting! Communication between staff and all departments was stellar! It seemed as if the staff was always one step ahead of us without being asked. Lisa from the Rehabilitation Center was incredible! Being able to follow the Lion Pride for our stay and understand how they live in the wild was definitely an experience to never be forgotten.Truly 5-Star accommodation and experience! Part of our hearts remain at Shamwari! Nina and Portia, Each and everyone of your staff members must be commended. Back of the house, as well as front of the house, are top of the line in the hospitality industry.

We treated ourselves to 3 nights here at the end of our holiday to South Africa and we could not have asked for more!! What an exquisite experience, from our beautiful room in Long Lee Manor to the delicious food served by friendly, professional and attentive people in a wonderful setting. Our game drives were magnificent and Leon, our ranger, is the best guy to spend time with. His knowledge, professionalism and amazing energy really made our safaris special and we cannot thank him and Shamwari enough!

This was our second visit to Shamwari. We had such an excellent time when we visited 6 months ago, we had to return to experience another lodge and reconnect with the nature of this beautiful reserve. Making up for lost time after Covid shutdowns!! Our first visit was to Long Lee Manor. Elegant rooms with expansive vistas. Our ranger introduced us to the northern part of the reserve, and we fell in love with the land. That is why for this trip we stayed at Bayethe. Still ultra-luxurious but more of a bush experience. Our Bayethe “tent” (not a tent really - strongly built structure, no bugs and climate controlled) accommodations were completely private. We loved the outdoor shower (there is also a beautiful indoor option). The staff at Bayethe were outstanding! It would be unfair for me to call out any one person because everyone was polite and accommodating. Nina, the lodge manager, runs a tight ship! I found the pillows in our room fuller than I am accustomed to. When Nina inquired about my first night’s sleep, I mentioned this. She then rattled off three or four different pillow options available. This is the kind of service they provide. I slept much better with my feather pillow and my husband was delighted to have a memory foam pillow. Nina also arranged for us to have breakfast on our last day at a different lodge (Sindile) with our ranger - very thoughtful gesture. The Rangers are a vital component of the safari experience. Our first visit we had the colorful Jacques who provided us with we would come to call our “trip of a lifetime.” So, we were nervous about having a different ranger on our second visit. We were assigned Ranger Josh, and we were not disappointed. We loved his passion for what he does. He has encyclopedic knowledge about the wildlife and the plants. It was just like Jacques’ knowledge. We are now thinking that Shamwari has high standards and an excellent training program. Shamwari offers two daily safaris at approximately 3 hours each. We were often out longer. We stayed 5 nights so one of the days Josh arranged for a full day safari. It included delicious picnic lunch out in a remote scenic part of the reserve. He still made time for a 5 PM evening drink overlooking the amazing countryside. We never felt like our ranger wanted the day to be over. Instead, he seemed to be enjoying himself as we were, often taking his own photos of the wildlife. The reserve itself is spectacular. Rolling hills and diversity between the north and the south. We had exciting wildlife siting’s each day. However, just driving around the beautiful countryside was enough for us. Lions, cheetahs, elephants are the bonus. But equally exciting was the endless exotic birds and smaller game to be found everywhere. Shamwari does excellent work. Not just restoring the land back to original indigenous plants and animals but also in its animal rehabilitation program. We were very impressed with the dedication of the staff on these projects. There are two young elephants that they are rehabilitating with plans to integrate back to a herd at Shamwari. It was wonderful to see the progression from our last visit. They are now in the large pre-release area looking very well and happy. This project alone is a years-long commitment. Safari experience is expensive, but when you see how much is being done with the funds they collect, it makes sense. We remain impressed by the magnitude of maintaining a reserve and at the same time providing 5-star accommodation, dining, and safari experience. We look forward to our next visit! Shamwari is a magical place.
