Chapungu Tented Bush Camp sits at the heart of the Thornybush Private Game Reserve. With only 8 rooms, you are guaranteed peace and solitude, deep in the African bush, while still enjoying the comforts a luxury lodge offers. Tastefully furnished in old world colonial splendour, in a style and class of a bygone era, Chapungu offers guests private and exclusive accommodation in comfortable, air-conditioned en-suite safari tents . Dinners are usually enjoyed outside in the Boma where all tastes and preferences are catered for. Settle around a log fire to recount the days’ game experiences before retiring to the lounge for a night-cap, or the comfort of your tent. Morning and evening game drives in open safari vehicles with your ranger and tracker, ensure close and unrestricted encounters with the wildlife. Our passionate team will make sure that your experience in the African bush, is one to remember.

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay here over the New Year , 2018/2019. From being met when we arrived , with a hot towel to wash up and delicious lemonade, this place never failed to amaze us. The food is fabulous, the atmosphere great, and the people who make this all

We really enjoyed our stay at Chapungu. The guides were great, the staff friendly, the food good, and good accommodations. The guides found all of the "Big Five" for us. Wild animals are scarily close, my travel companion stepped out on her deck and was confronted by a

We have wanted to go to South Africa's Kruger National Park for a lifetime! Rhino Travel set up the most wonderful trip to Chapungu in Thornybush just outside of Kruger. The resort was beautiful with lodges, multiple dinning areas, pool and glam-camping tents with big feather

Hi Sona M, Summer is considered the rainy season (afternoon showers) and when it's hottest. You could try going in Autumn (April & May), the days are not as hot and there is less rain (although this is unpredictable). You could also try Spring which means warmer weather and before the rain arrives (September & October).

Hi Tim B, Chapungu is about 450km from Joburg (and will take between 5 and 6 hours) on a relatively good road (there are a few different ways to get there). The last 45 minutes or so are on a dust road as you approach the camp inside the wildlife reserve. We managed to find it really easily with the directions the lodge gave us.

There is a laundry service. We had bought all the safari clothes and people wore everything including jeans and t-shirts. We were here at the end of November and it was cold in the morning. Warm hats, neck gater, gloves were all helpful. Have a great raincoat just in case. They have good ponchos but after 3 hours in the rain, I was soaked to the bone

"Every tent is luxury!"
"8 luxury tents ,wildlife every where it does not matter which you choose."
"All 8 rooms are equally isolated from one another and all face the bush so doesn't matter which room you have"
"All rooms are good as they are detached buildings within the camp with plenty of privacy"
"Tents 4, 5 and 6 are probably closest to the lodge and have lovely views."
