The kapama private reserve has five camps, but for us, this one was perfect. It's small (only 12 bungalows), intimate and meets every traveler's expectation of what a luxury safari should be. It's in tune with the natural environment, understated in decor, yet offers every amenity you would want. Food was excellent, and our ranger, Aneen and spotter, Adolf, were...

The accommodations might have been the best I've ever experienced. Service was incredible. Food was fantastic. The safari rides were unbelievable. Our guide, Greg, was fantastic with our kids, being flexible with our schedule, educated us, etc. Easily one of the best vacations we've had.

We were there for 5 days over the Christmas period December 2016. This was our 4th time on safari so we knew the drill. We were a little sceptical that we would have the true due to the fact it was a private reserve rather than open savannah. That scepticism was eliminated straight away, there was a lot greener than...

We stayed at the Kapama Karula for 3 nights in December as part of a trip to South Africa, and I will say, it was one of the best places we have ever stayed, with amazing staff. First, we booked a Family Suite for my family of 4 (kids ages 10 and 13). The Suite was very large and very...

Left kapama karula Thursday after an amazing stay. Rooms were enormous and beautiful with an infinity pool. Loads of towels, toiletries and fully stocked all inclusive mini bar including full bottles of wine. Food was delicious and catered for all our dietary requirements with ease. However the best thing about it are the people. A big shout goes to Bjorn...

We decided to visit a Game Reserve for a few days during our trip to visit family in Johannesburg. After much research we chose Karula at Kapama. I'm so happy we did. They are at the airport the minute you step off the plane. Upon arrival, and after every game drive there is a welcoming committee with fresh towels. Checking...

We flew into Hoedspruit and were promptly picked up by the lodge staff at the Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (in the safari trucks!). The staff were very nice and helped with our luggage. The Kapama Reserve is right behind the airport and the drive to Karula (within the Kapama area) took about 20 minutes. We saw giraffes on the way. We...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River is one of Kapama's most secluded and prestigious safari camps named Karula. Karula means "place of peace" in the native tongue, and soon after your arrival you will know exactly why this name is just so perfect for this magnificent luxury safari camp. Peace is but one of the many emotions that will encompass your soul as you look at the serene waterway meandering gently past your doorstep and the age old saying "water is life" will begin to have a whole new meaning for you. The open plan lounge and bar area, with floor to ceiling glass doors illustrates the perfect balance with elegant light colors. This modern building with its whitewashed wooden structure, skylights and open air bar, creates a cozy feel to the lounge and makes it a day time favorite to enjoy a drink or just sit back and enjoy the sights Karula has to offer. The contemporary yet African feel to the camp will satisfy and exceed the expectations of even the most discerning connoisseurs. The outside wooden deck overlooking the Klaserie river gives you the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and magnificent vistas the camp has to offer. Karula Library & Media Room boasts some of the best audio visual equipment but doubles as a library where you can read a good book in a breathtaking environment, or just take in nature's views through the massive sliding windows. Keep in touch with family and loved ones at one of the two dedicated guest internet stations with WiFi on tap and free of charge. A private, romantic fireplace dinner can also be arranged with the camp personnel, and in a modern romantic setting like this, the answer can only be "Yes". Kapama Karula has twelve superior suites, each exquisitely decorated and with generous private space. Two of the superior suites are purpose-built for families. Each suite also has a private outside deck and a large swimming pool, which is heated in the chillier months for year-round swimming. ... more   less
