My wife and i visited karula lodge for 4 days. The region was in its worst drought for 10 years. The owners decided to supply fodder to rhinos and other animals to guarantee their health and survival during this dry period. What a great decision as it enabled wonderful viewing for the many guests. Our guide Bjorn is very knowlegable... More

Clearly we weren't the only ones (based on the reviews) who feel strongly that this place is a little slice of heaven. If you can stomach the travel time from the US, it doesn't get better than Kapama Karula. Everything about our experience was magical, from being picked up at the airport in an open air land rover and seeing... More

This was the BEST experience I have ever had. The suites speak for themselves with the photos and other reviews. They are huge and beautifully appointed. It was the service that made this entire stay so special. I don't normally name people but they were so brilliant they need acknowledgement. The greeting at the airport which really close, and the... Take the best rating and double it - this place is amazing. We had the experience of a lifetime. The facility is luxurious and you are spoiled in every way - from the hot water bottles and blankets on the morning drive to the hot towels waiting for you on arrival back at the camp. The Rangers and trackers are... More

I cannot imagine a more perfectly tailored safari experience than Karula. It's a wonderful combination of breath-taking setting, refined style, lovely service, and outstanding food. The views of the bush inspire a hushed awe that is matched with the thrill of the game drives. Karula is a true gem that exceeds the highest of expectations.

Wow- just a spectacular setting along a river. All rooms face the river with full wall windows to enjoy the view & wildlife. Superior design reflects nature and relaxation with elegance. Spacious lodgings and beautiful setting; truly top notch. Not to mention the infinity pool, and each cabin has it's own private plunge pool!

The serenity of this place is unique. Waking up looking out onto the bush is priceless. Of course, only if you are not heading out to a morning Safari that leaves at 6:30 every day. This is before sunrise in winter, however. Everything is perfectly organized and the fact that everything is included means no hassle and ultimate simplicity. Service... More

Amazing safaris where we could see the big 5 and much more... Private reserve so you don't have cars full of tourists... More

the lodge and suites are super luxurious- each suite has its own heated plunge pool/sitting area/ king bed and very large bathroom - the guides and trackers are excellent. The food is very good except for the night outdoor barbques where choices are recylcled from previous meals and no accomodation is made for special needs. despite requests. Staff is friendly... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River is one of Kapama's most secluded and prestigious safari camps named Karula. Karula means "place of peace" in the native tongue, and soon after your arrival you will know exactly why this name is just so perfect for this magnificent luxury safari camp. Peace is but one of the many emotions that will encompass your soul as you look at the serene waterway meandering gently past your doorstep and the age old saying "water is life" will begin to have a whole new meaning for you. The open plan lounge and bar area, with floor to ceiling glass doors illustrates the perfect balance with elegant light colors. This modern building with its whitewashed wooden structure, skylights and open air bar, creates a cozy feel to the lounge and makes it a day time favorite to enjoy a drink or just sit back and enjoy the sights Karula has to offer. The contemporary yet African feel to the camp will satisfy and exceed the expectations of even the most discerning connoisseurs. The outside wooden deck overlooking the Klaserie river gives you the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and magnificent vistas the camp has to offer. Karula Library & Media Room boasts some of the best audio visual equipment but doubles as a library where you can read a good book in a breathtaking environment, or just take in nature's views through the massive sliding windows. Keep in touch with family and loved ones at one of the two dedicated guest internet stations with WiFi on tap and free of charge. A private, romantic fireplace dinner can also be arranged with the camp personnel, and in a modern romantic setting like this, the answer can only be "Yes". Kapama Karula has twelve superior suites, each exquisitely decorated and with generous private space. Two of the superior suites are purpose-built for families. Each suite also has a private outside deck and a large swimming pool, which is heated in the chillier months for year-round swimming. ... more   less
