Inyati Game Lodge is situated in the western sector of the Sabi Sand Wildtuin which is a private game reserve sharing a common unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park. It spans 50 000 hectares and is renowned for providing some of the best safari game viewing in Africa. The reserve is not open to the general public with each private lodge having exclusive traversing rights over their area. Inyati’s rangers drive specially designed safari vehicles which are allowed off-road, ensuring you get exclusive and intimate game viewing opportunities. The reserve has a dense concentration of wildlife and is home to the Big 5 – elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo. Cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wild dogs and a vast variety of antelope and other species may also be closely observed, free roaming within their own territories. Inyati is one of the best places in the world to get up close and personal with the elusive leopard.

Everything about our experience at Inyati was amazing, leaving me utterly speechless at times. From our greeting at reception, to the delicious food, to the lovely bungalows, I rate this lodge A++. And the game drives! I was a little skeptical about all of the off roading and tracking the animals, worried that it may be disruptive to the animals and their natural behavior, but I quickly learned that the guides have the utmost respect for the animals and their habitat. It allowed us to see some rare animal behavior (male leopards attempting to take another’s territory, a wild dog-hyena fight, and nearly a leopard couple mating). Darren (our guide) and Nelson (our tracker) were excellent. They taught us so much about animal behavior. Try the walking safari at the end of one of the game drives. Excellent experience all the way around. Well done, Inyati!

There aren't enough superlatives to describe just how wonderful our experience was at Inyati. I find it so difficult to believe that anybody could give it less than 5 stars to be honest. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and my husband and I thought the food was wonderful. My initial concerns with regards to the communal dining were laid to rest at the first meal when meeting guests from all around the world and having some fabulous conversations. We thought the food was fantastic and again find it difficult to understand some of the complaints regarding the food. It was all so tasty and there was plenty of it so you were never feeling hungry. They will also do their best to cater for any specific food requirements. Our room was fabulous and we loved the little touches like the bedtime story left on our bed after we returned form our afternoon safaris.. Our Guide (Gabriel) and Tracker (Cliff) were outstanding! What a thrill it was to bush bash over some pretty rough terrain to be rewarded with sightings that we'll never, ever forget.. From seeing a mother Cheetah teaching her 2 sons to hunt to finding an elephant herd with a newborn that was only a few hours old with traces of blood still on him, are memories I'll truly treasure. I can't recommend Inyati highly enough!

From the moment we were greeted in the driveway to the moment we departed Inyati never disappointed! On all 5 of our safari drives we had "once in a lifetime" encounters with the animals. We were able to see all of the "Big 5" multiple times, including the leopard on 4 of the 5 drives. While in camp, the meals and drinks we excellent. The opportunity to hear stories from the staff and other travelers was priceless. Our rooms were comfortable and the view was amazing. We thought this would be a 'once in a lifetime' trip - but now we can't wait to go back and do it again! Thank You INYATI staff for making our vacation so very special.

We normally stay at a different lodge when we go to the western Sabi Sand region but we decided to try Inyati based off of the fact that they attempt to limit the number of passengers in the vehicle to 6 and the other lodge we stay at still sticks with 8-10 people per vehicle. THE LODGE and ROOM: Inyati is a small but nice lodge with excellent views from the main lounge. There is an interior lounge and bar and also an outdoor eating area. There is a large pool that also looks out onto the riverbed and has enough chairs to accommodate a majority of the guests. The rooms and the lodge are a bit dated. The rooms however, are large and have all of the amenities one could need: a coffee station for the morning, mini bar, blow dryer, bug spray, repellent, toiletries, robes, fresh towels, a separate bathroom with both a tub and a shower, enough closet space, a full length mirror, and a nighttime story left on your bed (such a great idea!) Our room had a small outside area and we were warned that a leopardess liked to come and sleep on the deck at night. Unfortunately, we never saw that leopard but we did see elephants grazing right off of our deck. They also have one of the best gyms I have seen at a lodge. It had everything from free weights, a weight machine, an upright programable bike (my favorite and sadly not found at many of the other lodges I have stayed at) and a treadmill. FOOD and DRINKS: FOOD was very good. BREAKFAST: you eat with your vehicle pax and ranger. It consisted of eggs to order and a buffet set up. LUNCH: is only served upon request. If you’re hungry, they have a lunch menu with several options to choose from (all are very tasty, I recommend the toasted sandwiches), and you can eat at the pool, on the deck, in your room… wherever makes you happy. DINNER: sit down with your vehicle pax and ranger once more. You order for the main and there is also a buffet for salads. DRINKS are mostly included and those that are not included are clearly marked on a drink menu with prices, and you can find it in the bar area. You also have a minibar in your room that can be filled upon request by filling out a bar slip and brining it to the bar. Each day you’ll get a bill that will either show what you spent or show a zero balance that you sign and leave for them to collect. If you want a drink at the pool, you can go and order it from the bar, but the bartender does come down and bring it to you if you don’t want to wait for it. DRIVES: Inyati says they try to keep to 6 per vehicle. I wish they would guarantee 6 or less, then staying here would be a no brainer! But, day 1 we had 7 pax, one person sat with our ranger. However, the rest of our time, we did only have 6 people total in the vehicle. Excellent job Inyati! Our ranger was Omega and our tracker was Joel. I am so happy that we had them to guide us! They were both very knowledgeable, fun, entertaining and on the money with finding the animals. Our goal for coming back to the western sector was to see the aging Matimba male lions who we have followed around Sabi Sand for a few years, the Othawa pride with the Matimba’s 3 baby cubs and the Majingilane’s last cub. I had all of my wishes fulfilled and then some so I certainly have no complaints about the effort that Omega and Joel put in to ensure that we had quality time at sightings. We even saw one of the most unique sightings of all of our trips. A sight to behold: We saw the Matimba male Lions in the dry riverbed with the Othawa Pride, the Matimba’s 3 cubs and the last baby of the Majingilane Lion Coalition. Not far from the lions, on a rock, laying still as a statue, was a leopardess and her cub silently watching the lions and waiting for them to move on, while to the opposite side of all of these cats was a herd of elephants. The elephants were oblivious, the lions only spotted the elephants and the leopard saw them all. Unbelievable! Thanks to such a great experience, and for sightings that I still talk about and that will remain with me forever, I hope to return next year and I hope the Matimbas stay strong and remain alive long enough for me to see them once more.

Thank you for your wonderful review. The game viewing is incredible, and we are delighted that you had such an amazing time on safari. Since your stay, we did some major structural renovations of the central recreational areas including an extension of the main veranda area. A substantial refurbishment of the lodge was completed in mid-May. Our rooms received a soft upgrade with a new colour palette of luxurious furnishings and indulgent outdoor showers have been added to all the standard chalets. The enhancements have given the lodge a modern facelift while retaining the classic safari style and relaxed family atmosphere that our guests love so much. We certainly look forward to welcoming you back to Inyati to see our new look. Warm bushveld regards Leighanne Dawkins marketing@inyati.co.za
