I felt like I was on the set of a movie all week!!! It was that amazing! I really can't speak highly enough of this experience! The campsite was straight out of the movies and the food....wow!! Authentic campfire cooking in Dutch oven pots every morning and evening!! And can we talk about the desserts?? WOW!!

A fantastic week of riding in Billy the kid country. Wonderful chuckwagon meals and camp set up in beautiful country. Owners Kim and Patricia Chesser served us so well and made all the guests feel like family.

I just returned from an adventure of a lifetime with Burnt Well Ranch! Amazing horse riding in rugged, New Mexico country each day during the Regulator Ride. Eating delicious meals cooked on a campfire with quality local ingredients. Plenty of interesting local history and stories of ranch life from the nicest, down to earth people you could ever meet. All of this made for memories to last a lifetime. I highly recommend those who are interested to check out all of the options the Ranch has to offer you won’t regret it.

An amazing experience. The ranch work and riding was outstanding. Food and family-style meals really fostered connections with the owners and other guests. I personally learned a lot on this trip and will likely plan another visit for 2023. It’s a true working ranch so be prepared to be up close and personal with cows and bulls…..

If, as Willie Nelson put it, your heroes have always been cowboys, then this is an experience that will satisfy your inner John Wayne. The legacy of the Old West still exists, and, for the Chessers, it is a paradigm of existence. Rising from your bedroll along with the sun over the eastern horizon, you can warm up by the fire and fill your soul with a warm cup of joe and a Dutch oven mountain man breakfast. The day’s chore beckon, it’s you, your horse, navigating the herd through sweet smelling brush, across dry riverbeds, up and over the vast plateaus. As far as the eye can see, all the way to the horizon, there is no sign of civilization; you are transported to the by-gone era that shaped this nation. The only wink to the 21st century is when, in disbelief, you take out your cell phone to capture a snapshot of your incredible experience. By day’s end, you are back at camp…your backside appreciative of a break from the saddle. Around the table, enjoying some delicious fare, with the convivial motley crew of guests who, just like you have signed up for this experience you develop a kinship from the shared experience. The Chessers and their extended family provide you with an unparalleled experience, a glimpse into the past which also happens to be their daily existence. It was a pleasure and honor to have been given the opportunity to be part of their world…and I’m very much looking forward to doing it all over again next year!

Patricia and Kim offer a very special experience. I was hoping for something that felt authentic, even in the 21st century and I suspect this is about as close as it gets. We spent a lot of time on our horses! And, though I wasn't a very sure rider at the start, I was lot more comfortable by the end ... I could have stayed for a few more days. The vistas were beautiful ... right out of a John Ford movie. And our campsite was bordering on luxury with comfortable bedding and over the top meals. If you're looking for a cattle drive that puts you in the saddle most of the day and then pampers you back at the campsite, then this is it. I had a great time.

Wonderful hosts, horses, food and all together adventure for us, city slickers! We loved it and were amazed every day by the sunsets and the sunrises. And those bedrolls were amazingly comfortable and warm.

I just returned from a cattle drive at Burnt Well. Before this trip, I did a ton of research as I wanted an authentic cattle drive experience, not one where riders went out for a few hours and returned to their hotel rooms at night. This is the only cattle drive I have ever done but I cannot imagine a more authentic experience than what Burnt Well offers. Sleeping in a cowboy roll under the stars, meals cooked in dutch ovens, winding down with a drink campfire side, no shower for several days all make for a truly unforgettable trip. Guests are put to work so expect long hours in the saddle and to get your hands dirty helping to care for the calves. Patricia and Kim, and their entire family, are amazing hosts who truly open their arms to guests and make you feel like part of their family. This trip and their hospitality will forever be one of my fondest travel experiences. Do not miss out on this incredible adventure!
