Our condo perfectly fit our needs. Comfortable, quiet and family friendly. The guests were all friendly and kids made new friends and all played well together. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the River. Nice kitchen to cook in also. Nice to have a fireplace available since it rained during our visit. Would definitely stay again.

We went up in August to escape the Texas heat. We rented a cabin, since we had a little dog. We were told the unit had A/C (wrong) so we were ill prepared without a doggie gate for the front door. The owner had one we could borrow and that was awesome. Note to self: Always travel with a doggie door! The cabins were located withing walking distance of everything we wanted to do. There was a room fan to help circulate the air if it got a bit warm. We were fine, but like the rooms chilly at night. If we had wanted, we could have cooked in (pots, pans, toaster, etc.) but we were so close to restaurants, we just walked over. Dog friendly town meant we could eat out lots of places at lunch. I forgot to mention the hummingbirds. OMG! They were fun to watch. 4 feeders, and each one had many birds feeding. It was great to just sit and listen to the birds. Everyone was friendly. I really liked the Red River vibe. Check in/out was a breeze and the room rates were great. I would stay there again!

We travel frequently, this is the first time I felt compelled to leave a review so that others won't be disappointed. Our first time to visit Red River, New Mexico. I researched places to stay and chose Aspen Suites because I thought the room would be newer and nicer. The name "Aspen Suites" suggested more of a hotel room rather than a cabin. Unfortunately the name is misleading. We stayed in Suite 15 and Suite 16 of the Aspen Suites. We arrived and checked in around 2:30pm. I received a copy of our receipt with the Security and Refund Policy Agreement attached as well as an information card with Wi-Fi password, office hours, number to call in case of emergency, and rules of the property. Check in went easily. We went to suite #15 (which is the suite I originally booked). Unfortunately we were given the code to suite #16 rather than suite #15. We had to call the office to get the correct door code. Opening the door and seeing the suite brought disappointment. 1. The TV was not working. After a long drive we wanted to chill and watch TV. I walked to the office to ask for assistance with the TV. The manager told me she would send the maintenance man as soon as he returned. I said ok. After waiting until 5pm with the maintenance man not showing, my husband called the office again - the maintenance man had actually gone home for the day (he lives in Taos) and would not be returning that day. My husband asked for a different room. The manager offered us the suite next door, #16. So we packed up and moved to #16 which was a more comfortable suite (which I explain in #3). The TV worked and we were comfortable. However, the next day around 11am the manager called and stated that they would fix the TV in suite 15 and she wanted us to move back to 15. I asked if the TV was fixed, she replied that it would be, to which I replied we weren't moving until the TV was fixed. When we left for lunch, the maintenance man was in #15 fixing the TV and told us it was fixed. So, because we didn't want to start an argument, we packed up and moved back to #15. This was a very frustrating and unhospitable experience. 2. In suite #15, the TV screen was damaged with two strips coming down that interfered with the picture. (see picture) 3. In suite #15, the living area had an old vinyl futon for a couch and a small, fading reclining chair. (see pictures) Neither of these were comfortable for sitting. The configuration of the seating did not allow for watching TV, so we moved the furniture around. When we moved the futon away from the wall, the one end of the back fell slightly (it needed the wall to support the back). 4. In suite #16, the living room had a leather couch (much more comfortable) with 4 dining table type chairs. The TV worked. 5. In suite #15, the dining table was a high table with two barstools (not comfortable for sitting on either). 6. In suite #16, the dining table was a proper dining table with 4 dining chairs. 7. Security – we did not feel secure. The Aspen Suites doors use a keypad door lock with a code. If you’ve ever stayed there you know the code. Also, since we stayed in two separate suites, we know the code for all three suites now. In suite #15, the chain lock on the inside of the door had on screw coming out of the wall (see pictures). In suite #16, the keypad moved on the door and didn’t feel secure. 8. Fire Safety – the fire extinguishers in both suites were outdated. #16 had a missing smoke detector in the bedroom area. (see pictures) I don’t think suite #15 had a smoke detector in the bedroom. 9. In suite #15, the bedroom had a king size bed. However, the room isn’t much bigger than the king size bed and there was no room for luggage. We had to shimmy along the foot of the bed to get to the sides where there is about 3 feet on each side. There were cobwebs all over the ceiling fan just over head. The bedspread was a brown, old, thin, quilted type bedspread. The blanket was old with holes and a torn corner (see pictures). The room was painted a brown color which made the tiny room feel like a cave. 10. In suite #16, the bedroom is much bigger with a bigger window. There was a luggage rack and room to set your luggage up. The bedding was also much nicer with a white comforter and white sheets that didn’t look like hand-me-downs. 11. In suite #15, the kitchen was ok with a small size refrigerator and a small gas stove. There was only a tiny bit of counter space – no garbage disposal. 12. The bathroom in suite #15 was small with a tiny toilet, tiny sink, and tub/shower. The bath towels and shower curtain were all old. There was plenty of hot water though. 13. The bathroom in suite #16 was a tiny bit bigger. However, there is a shelf unit which sat behind the toilet to hold the towels. Unfortunately, the bottom shelf hangs out so far that you can’t sit back properly when using the toilet. Awkward! (see pictures) 14. No daily housekeeping. Each suite has a storage bin with a checklist duct taped to the top of the bin. If you needed anything, you check the list and leave it outside by your door. Housekeeping would come by and put anything you need inside the bin. More like a cabin than a suite. (see pictures) 15. Be aware that there is a $50 charge for housekeeping if you don’t wash your own dishes, take out your trash, and clean the suite before you leave. (See pictures). This seems excessive because the lodging rate for the suite should include the housekeeping. Overall, a very disappointing experience at the Riverside Lodge and Cabins. After the interaction with the staff about the broken TV, it was apparent that any other issues would be met with indifference. This is why we didn’t say anything to the office staff about how disappointed we were in the suite and our stay. The state of the suite indicates that management does not care about their customers. Also, the state of the suite suggests that hospitality and safety are not a priorities for the company. They knew we were coming but had not inspected to suite to ensure all appliances were working, the room was safe, and the linens were worthy of the customers who stayed there.

We enjoyed our visit, rooms clean an beds are comfy. The problem I have is they have WiFi but could only catch outside. TV station only about 18 stations to choose from. The staff was all very friendly, but I think if they offer maid service every day then they need to do the job. We never knew what they wanted to do couldn’t take naps because they came in different time.

We were in town for the Red River Bike Rally. Our cabin was a little outdated but it adds to the charm of the area. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The cabin had everything we needed. A refrigerator, microwave, stove, coffee pot, dishes as well. Centrally located, you are walking distance to most everything in town. I'll definitely recommend this place!
