The folks at Abe's were fantastic. The service people in the Fly Shop provided great insights and tips for the San Juan River. Helpful and Courteous. The food and service in the restaurant were excellent as well. Simple but good food. Just right for a fly fishing adventure when you are spending the entire day catching trout. Don't miss the... It's been 10 plus years since I stayed in the motel and next time I go I will look for other options. Obviously location is the draw for the motel because the rooms are bare bones minimum as far as essentials go. They say there is a kitchenette but there isn't a single thing (knife, fork, can opener, pots, pans,... More

OK. It is pretty dirty, run down and shabby. Having said all that, I can't think of a better place to spend a week or so fishing. I guess you can stay at the Soaring Eagle, but why? I'm there to fish, not eat a gourmet dinner right at the best time of the day to fish. I can eat... More

Everything you need to fish is found at Abe's. They rent fly fishing and spin fishing gear, weighters, etc. There were two men, long-time staff who were very friendly and full of advice on where to fish and what to use. Plenty of snacks to purchase.

Just got back from a week at Abe's Motel and Fly Shop. This is simply a great place to stay for several reasons. First, Abe's has been there since 1958; and caters to the fishing traffic. Navajo Dam, NM is a very small community (300-400?) folks and exists primarily for the fishing; fly fishing on the San Juan, and a... More

This hotel caters to fly fisherpersons who want to be close to the San Juan River Quality Water but don't want to pay more than a hundred bucks a night. It fits this bill perfectly. If you're staying at Abe's for any other reason, you might be disappointed as is a very basic hotel. We had a room with an... More

Who would've thought the El Pascador Cafe would have the best margarita I've had in a long time. (And I'm a picky bartender) Fresh lime juice....awesome. The chips and queso were delicious, (I'm from Texas....I know good queso) and so was my Greek salad. Nice work, folks...we felt very welcome and will definitely be back.

As others have humorously stated, the place is dated, yes they actually have carpet in the bathrooms and the showers are small. They are also totally functional and well suited for a great fishing trip, but probably not a family vacation or a honeymoon. I went for the first time with my husband who has been staying there for 20... More

Staying at Abe's is fun for the serious fisherman who is there to fish not bask in luxury. It's Spartan, bare bones, and fun. It's often full especially on week ends. The rooms have always been very clean each of the four times we have stayed there. There are rooms with small but efficient kitchenettes. The beds are comfortable (I... More

If you're in Navajo Dam to fish then Abe's is the place to be. Rooms are clean but very very basic. but the upside is the price, very low. With two per room it's about $42 each per night. Great fly shop and restaurant on site also.

Abe's Motel and Fly Shop has been on the San Juan River since 1958. We also have a comfortable lounge, motel, restaurant, RV / trailer park, boat storage facilities, and a grocery store. We were the first to explore the river for trout fishing, the first to guide on the river, and the first to fly fish the San Juan in winter months. Born 'n' Raised Guided Fly fishing Adventures offers wading or float excursions on the river, for a successful and memorable fly fishing adventure!
