For years, I've traveled through Hillsboro, and finally stayed overnight to enjoy a peaceful stay at Enchanted Villa B&B. I enjoyed my visit so much, I couldn't wait to return, so I did one month later! Maree, the owner, shows her guests just the right amount of attention -- taking care of your every need while allowing space to relax and enjoy the charm of her beautiful, spacious home and gardens filled with hummingbirds. Cool, quiet nights in a comfy bed were followed by Maree's homemade breakfasts that are plentiful, delicious, and served with Old World style. Enchanted Villa is a great choice for staying over in Hillsboro or just for a getaway. Thank you, Maree, and see you soon!
We are on a bicycling trip and can only travel 80-100 per day. Today the spot chosen to stay was Hillsboro, NM. The best part of visiting this B&B was the very nice lady who welcomed us to her sister's home. We had trepidations from the moment we arrived in Hillsboro. The first news was that there was no place to get dinner that night. The only cafe in town is closed on Wednesdays and only open until 3 other days. Strike one for Hillsboro. Then we were shown to our room which, on first glance, looked fine. The bathroom, however, made us rethink our decision to stay there. When a frog startled me by jumping into the toilet and a large bug crawled on the floor, we thanked the kind lady and departed. Since this is the only accommodation for miles, we opted for heading to Las Cruces. Unless you usually camp and don't require a clean sleeping environment, I wouldn't plan a visit to Enchanted Villas. …
Decorated by a Hollywood set designer, the rooms are beautiful. Don't be fooled by the exterior, the inside is gorgeous. The food is excellent. Maree is an excellent cook. Hillsboro is a small town, at the edge of the Black Range mountains. No visit would be complete without stopping by Fred and Arlene Lynch's place. They have a beautiful Sante Fe-style casita that will melt your heart! Their house is always open for a game of Pinochle or Mexican Train dominos. They love visitors!
Great experience - wonderful stay. Quiet and off the beaten path. A little cooler there too. Always had a Great Breakfast. Also, there is a wonderful Wine bar in town too, the Black Range Vineyards. Would go back again to this area again.
I loved the Enchanted Villa, it's old world architecture, surprising history and convenient location. The hosts are special people, sweethearts, who welcome you into their home and treat you as family, and cook like Mom did, too! This is the pleasure of staying at a B&B instead of a hotel. You are taken care of by the people who own the business, and as a visitor to the area, you couldn't have a better guide to what there is to do and see around Hillsboro.
Hillsboro doesn't have many options but if they had, we might have passed this one up because it looks really tired on the outside. However, the rooms were fine and Mary, who was our hostess, is very sweet and helpful.. She also makes a great breakfast. But spendy big time - $104 for 3 people. In a town where everything closes up tight at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon.
When I arrived at the B and B, I couldn't tell from the outside if the place was even occupied, it was so rundown. However, the owner was quite pleasant, and the room was clean and homey (albeit with a tiny bathroom, and a very hard bed). Breakfast the next morning was superb. But was it worth $100? No way! P.S. I was told that there is some other B and B in Hillsboro, but that this is the "better one."
