Detailed Reviews
Sometimes things happen for a reason. The lodging I wanted was booked and this was suggested as an alternative. I'm so glad it was. This property is amazing. There are a number of beautiful stone cabins spread out over a lovely natural area. We got there at dusk and it was still busy. The owners were great. There are lots of cabin choices and it appears to be very family friendly. Our cabin was so cute and cozy (the Cowboy). We never did figure out the TV and didn't have any hot water but it was still wonderful. The bed was so tall, you almost needed a running start to get up into it. It had a mattress topper, flannel sheets and a down comforter - it was a cold night but so toasty, it was hard to get up in the morning. In the morning, we were greeted by 6 deer outside our window, munching on leaves. This would be a great place for a honeymoon. My sister & I were only here for 1 night so we could do the Cat Walk in the morning and move on but I could see this would be a nice place to spend several days. We had a late breakfast at the Alma Grill & Store up the road. The food was good, lots of locals. I think we were the only customers that weren't wearing camouflage!

I usually do not book hotels that aren't chains because you never know what you're going to get. Nevertheless, we wanted to visit catwalks and this place came recommended by a family member. We are so glad we listened and booked a weekend here because it is one of the best places we've stayed in a long time. The staff were so friendly to us. Our cabin was immaculately clean. So much to do for the family. We have a 1, 4 and 6 year old and they all had a lot of fun fishing, exploring the property, using the pool and cooking in the pavilion. The bats that fly at twilight out of the water tower were very cool to see too. We are already planning on coming next year. Thanks for a great stay!

We spent one night as it was a convenient spot on our travels and we wanted to see the Cat walk. Everything is as advertised, we were in cabin with one bath and a queen sized bed. I am used to suites, so find it difficult when there isn't a comfortable place to sit except the bed. I was glad we had camp chairs with us as the chairs outside our particular cabin were not comfortable. A fun place to explore as the property is large. The owner was very nice and explained the history of the property.

We enjoyed three cabins and there were plenty of places to play or be quiet. We enjoyed cooking in the pavilion kitchen, walking the trails and fishing in the private ponds and the fish hatchery. The catwalk is an intriguing park and the people of Glenwood were kind. To me Los Olmos is glamping and a place to make family memories.

This place has so much potential but is suffering from apparent owner neglect. I base my opinion on the following: The on- site management is not effective. Maybe if they ever got out of their pajamas during the day they could do some work. The property was littered with trash and junk. The pool was filthy. I tried to skim the bugs off the top of the pool but the net had a hole in it. The mgr advised that one of the skimmers did not work and all the sand and gravel on the bottom of the pool was there to help clean the pool. As a pool owner this did not make any sense. We had to use three cans of insect spray to kill all the spiders that were in the cabin. The asst mgr stopped by to talk, and talk, and talk and began to share stories about smoking marijuana. Really, with my grandchildren listening. Get mgrs that will maintain the place and act professional. And fix the place up so that people will be willing to come back.

Hi! We're very sorry you had to visit Los Olmos lodge while it was still under the old owners! Knowing how we found this place in November 14 your comments were too kind! We have spent the last year and a few months fixing up this great place to its former glory! Every cabin has been rebuilt, updated & are always very clean! We hope we now exceed your expectations! I recently had the pleasure of staying at Los Olmos Guest Ranch for a week. As a busy CFO for a major Fortune 500 company I was specifically looking for an "out of the way" destination where I could take my 3 children and wife. My kids are 8, 12 and 13. They typically have their noses buried in their smart phones back home (the 8 year old doesn't have one - YET) I decided it was time for them to actually communicate with their Mom and Dad on a daily basis and discover the joys of being in the West. I could have chosen 5 star "resort" dude ranches and can easily afford them, but the atmosphere at these ranches is somewhat contrived with their day spas, glitzy restaurants and down mattresses. When I found out there was NO cell phone service in the area at Los Olmos it was a done deal. My kids would actually be forced to talk to each other instead of their "friends" in cyber space. We enjoyed several interesting side trips at the urging of Deonn, the manager. She was incredibly helpful in providing us with maps and instructions how to get there, etc. Remember - no GPS here! YEAH! Instead of typical "concierge" service she was genuinely interested in the kids and asked them each day what they had planned. Initially the kids were in shock without their texting, but after visiting some interesting local attractions like the Cat walk and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory Array they became more involved every day. A trip to the old mining town of Mogollon was especially fun - it was like traveling back 100 years in time. You won't find gourmet restaurants in nearby Glenwood, but an hour drive to Silver City yielded some great cuisine and excellent art galleries for my wife to browse - once again suggested by Deonn. We also spent some lazy days just lounging by the pool, my kids playing Marco Polo all day long, me buried in a cheesy James Patterson novel. This will go down in my family history as one of the best vacations we've EVER had and I'll look forward to coming back some time in the future - possibly for a multi-day pack trip into the nearby mountains using Los Olmos as a base - when my kids are a bit older. This is a place where you can kick off your boots, sit back in your chair on your front porch and chew on a piece of grass. The friendly and attentive staff made us feel like we were family - not guests. PERFECT.

Charming cabins and great caring management in lovely surroundings bordering the Gila National Forest. Beautiful pool for the summer months and view of the Mogollon Mountains. Close to the famous "Catwalk" hiking trail in the charming community of Glenwood, New Mexico. Just perfect if you enjoy a very remote, outdoor type vacation to get away from the crowds and hype. :)

The location of Los Olmos Lodge was beautiful. We relaxed, enjoyed the mountain views, were surrounded by many trees and watched and listened to many species of birds. We also relaxed at the pool. The lodge was just minutes away from the Catwalk. We stayed at the Cowboy Cabin, which was beautifully decorated with a southwestern and cowboy flair. We enjoyed all the amenities--a Keurig coffee maker with several different kinds of coffee, microwave oven, mini-refrigerator, a flat screen color TV, a comfortable king size bed and A/C.

So nice to experience what the new owners have done to transform this once-neglected historic lodge. Los Olmos offers 14 private cabins newly renovated and perfect for large family reunions or simple, private get-aways. You have here the ambiance of old west adventure in a wilderness setting that serves as the best place to stay when in the area. I urge you to check it out when seeking overnight or extended stays. Plenty to do for all including a nice pool and open grounds. Swim, fish, play horseshoes, hike the trails or just plain relax astride the bordering, burbling Whitewater Creek. Personalized service at its best in Glenwood, New Mexico, a place where Butch Cassidy once resided before becoming famous (or infamous, the choice is yours).
