The El Rancho Hotel is the embodiment of America’s Old West. According to author Russell A. Olsen, “As you enter the historic El Rancho through the stately front entry, you immediately realize this was and still is a special place….During its heyday, the El Rancho Hotel was one of the premier hotels in the entire Southwest and became the place for the Hollywood set to stay when filming in the area. The El Rancho Hotel was one of the premier hotels in the entire Southwest and became the place for the Hollywood set to stay when filming in the area. – Author Russell A. Olsen During its glory years, the El Rancho was the definition of luxury and included many amenities that were lacking in other typical tourist hotels of the day. For 50 years, the El Rancho Hotel greeted guests along Route 66 with class and dignity…Luckily for us, this one-of-a-kind hotel once again greets guests with open arms and enjoys the renewed worldwide interest in Route 66 and its landmarks.” The El Rancho Restaurant primarily serves American and Mexican food including Steaks, Hamburgers, Fajitas, Enchiladas, Tacos, and Tamales. The main dishes are named after Movie Stars who have eaten at the restaurant like the Ronald Reagan Burger with a side of Jelly Beans. The 49er Lounge in the El Rancho was listed as one of the Top 50 bars in the USA by Esquire Magazine. Whether you are in the mood for a Margarita after a long day exploring the Southwest, Fajitas, or a John Wayne Burger, the El Rancho has a meal for you. The Ortega Indian Jewelry store features some of the most beautiful, authentic Gallup New Mexico Indian Jewelry. The Jewelry Store at the El Rancho Hotel is owned by Armand Ortega and features handmade jewelry from Local Artists throughout the Region. The Primary goal of the Jewelry Store is to provide you with the finest handpicked jewelry from Navajo, Zuni, and Hopi Artists.

Very cool historical hotel. Even though it is historical the rooms are updated. Staff was super friendly and communicative during reservation, registration and check in. Restaurant service was extremely slow. It got worse while we were there. We saw people waiting to be seated, waiting for there check and frustrated enough to go get their own coffee. We had a hard time getting our bill - took nearly 30 minutes. The breakfast was good. It just shouldn’t have taken 90 minutes.

Hotel's Favorite
Excellent customer service, quaint, and cozy hotel. Classic rooms, comfortable beds, quiet and liked that there was a restaurant and lounge right there at the hotel. Loved the balcony that was recommended to go view the train. The place comes alive at night, piano music played, loved the seating on the main floor and second floor for socializing. Fun little gift shop.

El Rancho is a great hotel to stay in Gallup, New Mexico ! The hotel staff including Akia at the front desk were very helpfully, friendly, and knowledgeable what to do and where to go in town ! They made us feel right at home ! The hotel has history and great decor, great location! Fun to stay at ! From our porch, we could watch sunrise and sunset ! The lady in the souvenir shop also was very helpful and knowledgeable about jewelry and what I would like. In the restaurant, the chicken cooked with mole sauce that has 26 ingredients was wonderful ! We will come back !

This iconic place is worth a visit for sure! It seems to be under some remodelling but not in guest rooms......Hope they could get a grant for complete restoration. Room was clean, beds comfy, dinner at restaurant was perfect. We did have a couple of issues and the manager was immediately helpful and polite. The lobby is filled with lovely items-and one large mural that details history of the area.

from booking to check in and up and on through the lobby to the red carpeted grand staircase… the El Rancho offers an experience much like being on a film set. All together the architecture, decor, and well curated collection of portraits and fine art, act as a form of storytelling. Offering guests a non biased look into the victorian era; with lassos, antique revolvers, turquoise jewelry and traditional handmade artifacts on display. By encompassing elements from both the native peoples/surrounding tribes as well as that of the western settlers - the history that lives with in the halls and rooms of this speak many languages. Wether it’s a lesson on native traditions, cowboy culture, western films, pioneer times, or the fight over Indian land there’s something to learn around each and every corner. Love it hear!

The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, and we loved all the history of the hotel. We enjoyed the intertribal parade and the surrounding area. The hotel room was nice and perfect for our family of four.

Check in time is strictly 3pm which was a shame after a long drive but we passed the 30 minutes looking around the hotel lobby and relaxing in rockers on the balcony. Our room was a king deluxe and was just okay for space, the bathroom is snug. However we thoroughly enjoyed the historical feel of the place. We weren't sure about dining in the hotel restaurant but in the end decided to give it a go. Though it lacks a bit of ambience and atmosphere, we enjoyed the food. We also enjoyed reasonably priced cocktails that we took to the balcony to enjoy a stunning sunset with.

The room was clean and cozy. Loved that it was dog friendly and the pet fee was very reasonable. Of course, the hotel is a historical gem, and beautifully remodeled to reflect this. I would definitely return of in the area. Thanks for a peaceful and pleasant stay. Oh—also had some very good breakfast enchiladas in the restaurant downstairs.

I’d love to give this place 5 stars. It’s so charming, staff are friendly and the restaurant and gift shop are nice. All the authentic touches are so enjoyable. I felt like I stepped back in time and enjoyed that. The only real problem is the mattresses. I don’t even know where you find beds that hard. I’ve never encountered mattresses that were so firm as to be downright hard. I got very little sleep as my hips, shoulders and elbows felt like I was laying on a hard floor. If they are trying to replicate a mattress of the past, they could skip that one aspect. On future passes thru, I will eat here again and enjoy the history but wouldn’t stay again due to the beds.

Initial rate was $ 124 + taxes, to which I replied fine. She computes the taxes and replies a total of $ 195, huh? As her English was poor at best I asked her to repeat, $ 195. I ask, are you sure, $ 71 in taxes? Replies yes. I cancel, then she wants to assist me in finding a lesser rate in Gallup, no thank you. El Rancho Hotel really looked great, was looking fwd to staying there. So now staying at La Quinta, which is a great hotel for the price, have stayed with them numerous times with good results. I realize there is a shortage of employees nationwide, but sure is a challenge making reservations with broken English hotel staff. RTinAZ
