The El Rancho Hotel is the embodiment of America’s Old West. According to author Russell A. Olsen, “As you enter the historic El Rancho through the stately front entry, you immediately realize this was and still is a special place….During its heyday, the El Rancho Hotel was one of the premier hotels in the entire Southwest and became the place for the Hollywood set to stay when filming in the area. The El Rancho Hotel was one of the premier hotels in the entire Southwest and became the place for the Hollywood set to stay when filming in the area. – Author Russell A. Olsen During its glory years, the El Rancho was the definition of luxury and included many amenities that were lacking in other typical tourist hotels of the day. For 50 years, the El Rancho Hotel greeted guests along Route 66 with class and dignity…Luckily for us, this one-of-a-kind hotel once again greets guests with open arms and enjoys the renewed worldwide interest in Route 66 and its landmarks.” The El Rancho Restaurant primarily serves American and Mexican food including Steaks, Hamburgers, Fajitas, Enchiladas, Tacos, and Tamales. The main dishes are named after Movie Stars who have eaten at the restaurant like the Ronald Reagan Burger with a side of Jelly Beans. The 49er Lounge in the El Rancho was listed as one of the Top 50 bars in the USA by Esquire Magazine. Whether you are in the mood for a Margarita after a long day exploring the Southwest, Fajitas, or a John Wayne Burger, the El Rancho has a meal for you. The Ortega Indian Jewelry store features some of the most beautiful, authentic Gallup New Mexico Indian Jewelry. The Jewelry Store at the El Rancho Hotel is owned by Armand Ortega and features handmade jewelry from Local Artists throughout the Region. The Primary goal of the Jewelry Store is to provide you with the finest handpicked jewelry from Navajo, Zuni, and Hopi Artists.

Beautiful hotel with a lot of history. To preserve the feel of the original hotel, there have not been modifications. That said. Lobby, stairs, and gallery containing signed photos of old western stars was fascinating. We did not dine in the restaurant. The gift shop was nice. Our room was average sized. Two small beds. Hard to adjust AC, but fortunately there was a ceiling fan and we used that. Bathroom very small. Old rooms lack adequate number of plugins for today's needs. Elevator not available. Carried bags upstairs. Overall, comfortable nights sleep. Price average.

While staying at Maswick lodge we decided to have dinner at the El Tovar Hotel. The menu was upscale with some very interesting options. Our family tried the grilled chicken with the kale pesto pasta and vegetables, the grilled salmon, and the grilled trout stuffed with crabmeat. Before our entrees we had the onion soup, Caesar salad and the creamy red pepper soup. The meal was great and the service was excellent. We topped off our dinner with the creme brûlée. If you want a very nice dining experience then El Tovar is the restaurant to visit.

My wife freaking loved it. My wife seen this hotel and was really wanting to stay, so we stopped over night on our way back home to Georgia from The Grand Canyon. We loved this hotel, the history and the staff. The gentleman at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. My wife is a huge Lucille Ball fan and low and behold we were put in the Lucille Ball Room. We were a little concerned about the temperature because we seen a lot of complaints regarding the rooms being hot. My wife is from the north and on top of that she is at the age where she gets hot all the time, but even though it was a scorcher outside the room was very pleasant. There was a ceiling fan above one of the beds that helped out as well. The beds and bedding were very comfortable allowing us a good nights sleep. The hotel is full of history and architecture, and security guard took the time to give us a nice tour and history of the hotel. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant inside the hotel. The menu prices were average, the portions were bigger than average and the service was excellent. If you are looking to stay at the Ritz then this isn’t the place for you, but if you are looking for a great hotel, with a lot of history, architecture and awesome employees then this is your place. My wife is already talking about taking the 23 hour drive back to stay a few more days.

I wanted to love this place. I did walking inside. I even said yes after seeing the room and hearing the price. I thought, "It's on the pricier side, relatively, but look at the charm and history!!! I have to stay here." But what turned out to be a great check-in experience (the desk girl was great), cool gift shop, nice restaurant (considering covid), sweet photo ops in the lobby, etc., turned into an uncomfortable night sleep and non-reaction to my complaint that the room was warm as hell with no way to adjust the thermostat. So, after leaving my bag in the room to go take photos, I noticed that the room was not cool, that there was room temperature air coming from the duct even though I had turned the thermostat down into the 60s, and so I decided to tell the front desk girl. Her reply, though friendly and helpful, was a bit confusing. After telling her I thought there might be a problem with the air, she mentioned that the air is hotel wide (or something of the nature), that it's all the same. I found this odd because the room has a thermostat with temperatures and on/off settings, etc., like any normal room, so how could this be hotel wide? I was confused and thought I'd misunderstood, so assumed it would be taken care of by a maintenance man? It never was, and though I was able to fall asleep, I woke up several times in the early morning in a sweat. I tend to run hot, I guess. So on checkout I mentioned that the room was hot, that it should be checked out, the thermostat doesn't work, etc. And what I got was a kind of defensive/we've heard this before/why doesn't anyone understand it's hotel wide/it's automatic/I don't have time for this/blah blah blah reply. She then seemed to infer the hallway temperature should be the same as the room, cool. I told her it was not, to go check. But that was going no where, I was leaving, so. To be fair, she did in fact offer a discount, which I thought was kind, but I was trying to help by telling her my experience and fixing the issue for the hotel and others. But it seemed as though I was just interrupting a daily routine and was summarily dismissed. Did not feel good. So I shrugged, put the bags in my truck, and decided that would be the last time here. Well, after writing a review. Anyway, that's my experience. Really wanted it to be better. Oh well.
