4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We didn't stay here, but next time we will. We stopped to take in the Hollywood ambience we had heard about. There are many photos (lots of them autographed) by the BIG stars of yesteryear. All these stars stayed at the El Rancho at some point while filming on location nearby. (There were lots of "western" movies in those days.)... More

We read about El Rancho in the Lonely Planet travel guide and as we were on the Route 66 we wanted to stay in an authentic hotel. This place ticked all the boxes. We hadn't booked anywhere for the 5th night of our road trip and I think we came upon a gem. Luckily there were 3 free adjacent rooms,... More

We are taking and epic road trip from Patrick, AFB to Travis AFB via I40, some nostalgic Route 66! Good Morning !. We are broadcasting from Gallup, NM on Route 66! This is a great place. You need to stop in for a spell. Memories are flooding back of a time when life was simpler and glamorous. When everyone knew... More

Traveling from Chicago to Santa Monica via historic Route 66 we wanted to experience the lodgings and restaurants as close to the original route as possible. El Rancho Hotel was one of the gems that we discovered in Gallup, NM. The lobby is just beautiful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Leroy, at the front desk, checked us in... More

we were traveling old rt 66 and looked up this motel. we were intrigued by the history of this place .So we were lucky to get a room. the lobby in this place is beautiful. We stayed in the Janet Leigh room . There was no air conditioning in the room because it was an old historic building. But that... More

This hotel is very nostalgic. The pictures of all the actors and actresses that have stayed there are neat. It really feels like an old hotel in that there are not many updates. If you want a modern, chain hotel feel, don't stay here. The food at the restaurant was great! The one man working the registration desk was a... More

This place is worth the visit if you are staying overnight in Gallup, NM. The food is very good. I like a mexican restaurant based on their salsa and margaritas, 2 thumbs up there folks! It was slightly overpriced. I enjoyed reading the menu, which summarized all of the westerns stars that have stayed at the hotel during their filming... More

They have two types of rooms, rooms in the main building and rooms in a separate structure which are more motel like. We stayed one night in the main lodge in the William Holden room and loved it. I gather these rooms are a quite a bit nicer than the motel type ones, but also a little pricier. The motel... More

This place does have the charm of the past with the convenience of the present. We got a very spacious room for two adults and two children with nice decor, air conditioner was quiet, service was courteous. The lobby is very interesting to explore, with all the movie stars pictures and the peculiar atmosphere.

On our way back from a West Coast trip, we found this gem here on Trip Advisor. We are definitely glad that we stayed here. We had the Jackie Cooper room. Don't expect modern conveniences such as USB charging ports. Just take in all the aura of the Hollywood Golden Age and the Mother Road.
