Historical hotel. Rooms and bathrooms are very dated literally. Bathroom was tinier than a closet. Shower was falling apart. The bathroom had a smell of sewage. Needs to be updated/repaired badly through out the entire room. Bed was very firm. Reminded me of the fake mattresses found in department stores displaying fake beds. Our room had a temperature of 61... More

I pulled off the highway on my way to California and decided to check out the old hotel of western film making. What I found was a beautiful, warm welcoming little hotel with a lot a whole lot of history tucked in the town of Gallup. The photos in the lobby, hallways and upstairs gallery show the bygone era of... More

We dropped in while passing through Gallup because of the history of this hotel on Route 66. The gift shop had a fine selection of native crafts and souvenirs. In the lobby there was a unique ambiance with wood beams and railings, murals, a fireplace and a ton of vintage items including a cigar store Indian and cigarette and stamp... More

The outside of the building is wonderful and to have a look inside the lobby can be nice, depending on your interests. The charm of both is not reflected once inside your room. The rooms are too expensive for what they offer and can definitely be called pretty tired and uninspired. The bathroom is very small and that's not a... More

it was really neat to see where old movie stars stayed at. The rooms were updated a bit. The laounge was just to die for, so grand and full of memobelia. The stair way was like somthing out of Gone with the Wind. All the rooms had different movie star names on it. It was a iot was fun just... More

We enjoyed our visit here. The place feels like it still has the character and charm that it did back in the day. We love the vintage photos, the authentic handwoven blanket on the bed, and the or fixtures. They keep it very clean and in good repair. Spend a night here it will be a good memory.

When you walk into El Rancho you are on a film set-the lobby and balcony above are amazing.People wander in just to look around at the architecture and movie memorabilia. All so evocative of a bygone era.however, the dining and bedrooms are somewhat tired and in need of some TLC.Yet rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable and large.Lunch and breakfast... We always aim for local, historic hotels vs chains, perfectly comfortable with an older place with character, and found El Rancho for a stop between Albuquerque and the Grand Canyon because it sounded like just our kind of place. Unfortunately, they spend way too much on billboards all along the highways and nothing on maintaining the rooms in 'the charm... More

We booked this hotel due to the reviews it has received and it was featured on a resent TV documentary. We knew it wasn't a best western or similar it is a historic building the minute you walk in it is really quaint and different, steeped in history, the front desk staff were a bit confused with 10 of us...
