Last weekend at the lodge provided a welcome respite from the heat of West Texas. Because a single queen room was not available at the time I made the reservation, we were assigned a double queen but charged the lower price. The room was newly remodeled with the charm of an historic lodge. Wood wainscoat, mission style furniture, thick carpet, produced a quiet and calm space. The HVAC was responsive. The bathroom was smallish, but was installed with a heated floor, which was useful that chilly weekend; the shower produced hot water instantly. The view from the room was disappointing as the windows opened to some sort of tanks and utilities. I hope that the grounds are tended, although I realize that we visited during late spring. The halls also were decorated with antique or antique reproduction furniture. Staff were inviting, polite, and helpful. Check in and check out were efficiently completed. Rooms lacked telephones.

We were impressed by renovations to the dining areas and the lobby which also were richly furnished. Experiences at Rebecca's were mixed; I will address those in the restaurant review.

If you enjoy sterile, modern boxes provided by hotel chains, the lodge at Cloudcroft is not for you. If you prefer hotels with history and charm, stay at the lodge. We hope to return.

The hotel truly feels like an old-time luxury hunting/skiing lodge, with a giant fireplace and mounted game heads on the wall in the lobby. The rooms are very comfortable, the bed is great, there is plenty of space in the bathroom. The shower is so-so and the breakfast buffet is 100% NOT worth it,

We stayed in this historic lodge for one leg of our trip. While there was evidence of remodeling, we enjoyed our room. We did ask for one of the remodeled rooms - it was very clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom floors were heated, the room was cozy and warm in spite of cold temps outside. The staff was friendly. We would definitely stay again. If I were going to leave a suggestion it would be to add a blind to the small window so that there would not be so much light in the room. And I would have liked to have eaten in the restaurant area with the option for the bar menu and some intimacy instead of the smaller but more crowded bar area. We arrived late and did not want a big meal

My partner and I booked a 2 night stay at The Lodge as the 'relaxing' part of our 1 week road trip through New Mexico, with lots of hiking and camping included. We were very excited about our stay at The Lodge, but our emotions took a quick dive the moment we saw the place. The pictures you see on the website are NOT accurate as to what it currently looks like. The whole front is under construction and the remainder of the building is extremely run down. After talking to a local gentleman in town, we found out that construction has been going on over 2 years at The Lodge!! He said they have made very minimal progress and he has heard it's really taken a turn for the worst. There are flies all over the exterior, dead flies in the interior on the windowsills, and living flies within the room(s) we stayed in. My partner killed a fly in the first minute of our arrival. Our comforter was filthy and had obviously not been washed. We told the front desk and when she came to look at our room, it did not seem to come as a surprise to the her that the bedding was dirty (must be a consistent problem). She immediately gave us a different room and said she would give us a discount for the inconvenience (a mere $7 we found out later on, from the $395 stay). We continued to kill flies in the new room, were not provided with new towels the next day, and our new room was right next to a room under construction. Constant drilling, talking, and hammering was heard throughout the day. I completely understand construction has to occur, but the rooms next it should then be closed off for the time being. Needless to say, we ended up checking out early and not staying the 2 nights. Camping = less bugs, clean blanket, on a lower budget...so back to camping it was! What once was considered a 'resort and spa' is now only an over-rated, over-priced, devastating disappointment.

I will say the 2 receptionist we had the privilege to meet were absolutely wonderful and we do not fault them at all for the flaws that this hotel brings. We appreciated your understanding and help during our stay!

I wish I could give a negative rate, we went to couples retreat for the weekend. We took our small pug with us because we couldn’t leave her at home. First the moved us to the pavilion from the lodge so we had to go up to the lodge every morning for the class and then drive back to our room. During these classes we had to leave our pug in the room. Sometime Sunday on our last day when we where in the classes about pug got bite by a snake. We took her to the vet and lucky with medicine and treatment to the bite and thank god it was not a snake bite that could have killed her. When he contacted the hotel about it and should them pictures with a very high vet bill they could have cared less and just told us that no way a snake is around the area and no way it happened at there hotel. The owners don’t care about what happens to their guest and the hotel is very out dated. So if you care about your pet or even our self don’t stay at this hotel.

Grossly overpriced alcoholic drinks! $48 for a single Balvenie scotch? Ridiculous! Completely out of line with any other prices at this cool hotel. When we got our bill and questioned Nicole, the dining room manager, about the extreme drink prices, her attitude was “too bad, so sad”. Never again!

I was looking for a 1 night getaway and a friend recommended this hotel. Booked online and was very much looking forward to our stay. Got a voice message about 2 hours before check-in time informing me that there would be construction (roof work) in my wing from 8:30am to 8:30pm. I was only an hour away so decided to head over and see how bad it was. Not only did the property look like a construction site, but as I stood at the front desk I heard the manager on the phone desperately trying to get someone to repair two hot water boilers. My wife meanwhile went to look at the restaurant and overheard many guests complaining about the lack of hot water. I asked them to cancel my reservation. They insisted on charging me $10 because I didn't give them enough notice. Tacky to put it mildly. I will never stay at nor recommend this property.

The restaurant was awful over cooked pork chop and salmon
When asked for the meal to be taken back we weee still billed for it until we asked for it to be removed
The manager and chef we’re terrible at customer service
Until this is fixed I would stay away
Never in my life have I been so dissatisfied in the meal and response to being unsatisfied
It’s not my fault is all they want to say
Well I will call your district manager and write a poor review everywhere I can find
That is what I can do Mr chef

Driving up to Cloudcroft from Alamogordo offers such a contrast, going from the desert to mountain forest, and the Lodge is perfectly set near the top elevation. While the resort is over 100 years old, they've done a great job of updating it - our room was spacious and modern (Premium room), and very comfortable. The restaurant is operating following Covid-19 protocols, with tables spaced 12 feet + apart and servers masked/gloved. Food is very good. Staff is very friendly, and allowed us to make a room switch, due to fact we had heavy luggage and did not want to haul it up the stairs (n.b. - no elevator). There is the golf course right adjacent, but we did not use it. It is just a really great place to relax, and enjoy mountain air and scenery.

I have been coming to the Lodge for many years and have seen it through at least two renovations. My family has owned a cabin in the area so we would eat at Rebeccas at least once each trip. I can say Rebeccas is still very good. I have also stayed at the Lodge several times. This trip we have an updated room that is very nice. The bed is very comfortable and the mattress is new. The bathroom is also updated and even has a heated floor. The decor is very fitting for an historic inn. It is done in the craftsman style with craftsman furniture and craftsman paneling halfway up the wall. I love the wallpaper in the restaurant! It reminds me of being in an old English Inn. There are beams on the ceiling of our room as well as in the restaurant. I am enjoying our stay in this beautiful peaceful place!

Not at all. The A/C is great and there are electrical outlets in more than one place in the room. It is an old hotel of course, built in 1899 but the plumbing and (thank God!) electrical systems are modern. We recharged our iPad, phones, etc. with no trouble beyond having to unplug a lamp on one occasion. By "old" expect quaint, not antiquated!
