Riding through capitan and stayed here. Family running motel were very friendly. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Needs some trim work and update but overall it was a good place to stay. Would stay there again if ever back on that trail.

Smokey Bear is a classic motel with old style prices. There is a rustic atmosphere compared to the newer cookie cutter motels. My impression is that most negative reviews come from people trying to sneak their dogs in without paying an extra fee. These people cheat or try to cheat the owner and are the first to complain when caught.

Old motel; needs updating. At least the room rate was commensurate with the accommodations. The wifi didn't reach my room, the bathroom fixtures were cracked and grimy. At least the restaurant next door is decent. But--all I did was sleep there. Suggest going down the road to Lincoln, where there are 2 cute, nice B&B's--the Ellis Store, and the Wortley... More

Just a small little motel privately owned and operated. This motel is super clean and quiet. No frills yet it does have great internet. My room was spacious and cute with handmade heavy wood furniture. There is a restaurant next door and another down the street. Also a great grocery store in town. The room has a small fridge and... Little late on this review but want people to know its a hidden gem! stayed here for a week July 2015 w/ 5 friends (3 per room). The owners are fantastic people who go beyond to make your stay comfortable. Older well maintained hotel right in Capitan. Walking distance to many of their places to see/visit. Highly recommend staying if... More

Friendly owners. Check-in was a little slow, but ok. Motel has been in business for over 40 years, but pretty well maintained. Room was large & clean. A/C was good. Nice big flat-screen TV. Wi-Fi available, but slow from time-to-time. Beds were firm, but that's how I like mine. $70 for room with 2 queen beds. All-in-all, a decent place... More

This is a hidden value motel. The price was less than $50, the room was adequate size with a Queen size bed. The bed was comfortable and clean smelling. The bathroom was older and needing some upkeep but was very adequate for the price and a one night stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

I had called ahead to make ask when the office closed. She told me to check in anytime and when I arrived I found she had stayed open late for us to check in. Very nice! The room was clean...although it was a little dated. The beds were hard and there was only 2 pillows per bed. It would have... More

I was happy to arrive at Smokey Bear Motel in Capitan after getting stuck from the road block near Hondo. The check-in was a friendly and comforting experience. The room was nice too! Thank you! The family who owns this place was sweet the next morning as well, very helpful with advice on road conditions. Life savers!

In the past two months we have stayed at this hotel a couple of times, each time in a different room. The style in each room varies, the beds are a bit hard but after a day hunting a bed is a bed and you won't find any complaints from me on that. Wifi worked great for us. My biggest... More
