Drubchhu is a family owned and managed resort. Overlooking paddy fields and farm houses, Drubchhu is developed on the ruins of an old granary which was built by Zhabdung Jigme Choegyal more than a hundred years ago. The property has a natural spring believed to be a Drubchhu (healing/miraculous water).

Detailed Reviews

Location
The resort is easy to reach and has an enormous parking space. You can easily walk to the famous Chimi Lhakhang temple from Drubchhu. The resort is also close to the small town of Missina where you can find the local market, bars, restaurants and quaint shops. When it comes to the location, it is in close driving range of all the myriad sights and activities in the valley.
Rooms
Drubchhu resort has deluxe rooms and superior rooms. There are 27 rooms in total which are spread across the property. The rooms have an electronic personal safe, telephone connection, WiFi, coffee/ tea maker and complimentary water. All the rooms are spacious and give a beautiful view of the valley. The bathrooms are slightly smaller in size and only deluxe rooms have a bathtub. The superior rooms do not have a bathtub, they only have a walk in shower. Compared to the size of the room, the bathroom is indeed quite small. The room is spacious, has a large bed and a comfortable workspace.
Food
You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the dining options. There is a Mad Man bar which is extremely beautifully decorated with yellow fairy lights in the night. Then there is the formal Ari restaurant and a Drubcchu cafe. The cafe is a must visit and will give you mind blowing views of the sunset. The food served at the cafe is prepared in the main kitchen which means it might take longer than normal for your food to arrive. A cup of coffee at Drubcchu cafe is worth it. The meals served at the restaurant are pretty decent in terms of taste. I was not really satisfied with the dinner and breakfast served here. It is good enough to fill your stomach though. Dining options are good but the food quality is average.
Public spaces
The public spaces inside Drubcchu resort need a special mention. Apart from the cozy and welcoming reception area, there are a number of spots in the resort where you will simply want to sit back and soak in the peace and serenity that Bhutan offers. There is a beautiful seating area at Drubcchu cafe and there are well placed swings and wooden chairs across the property. The property has lush greenery and mind blowing flora and fauna. This is one property where the outdoor public spaces were exceptional as compared to the public area indoor. Sit back and relax with a cup of coffee or a book and it will leave you feeling energized and refreshed.
Verdict
The service at Drubcchu resort is commendable. The staff is polite and well trained. They ensure that your stay at the property is comfortable. However, the WiFi does not work well here, hence if you think you will catch up on the emails while holidaying, it could be difficult for you to do so. Apart from that, the resort is indeed a good place for a digital detox and could leave you feeling relaxed and calm by the end of your stay.

The rooms are large and clean. The bathrooms are basic but clean and satisfactory. We ate some lovely Emma Datschi here and the Indian food is great too. They serve nice Chappatis and Chicken Curry, etc. The home-made cake they serve is lovely, seriously.
The Drubbchu Cafe has a lovely balcony where I enjoyed reading my book over a cup of coffee and just watching the clouds over the mountains. The river and paddy fields make a great view and they serve great waffles too.
I loved our stay at Drubbchu.
They also have a Spa which is good and cheaper than the ones in Paro.

This hotel is located slightly outside Punakha and is made up of several small buildings most with a magnificent view of the valley. The staff are mostly charming but slightly lacking in training. My room was quite large but spartan and low on amenities which is why I would give this hotel two not three stars. The food was either the buffet which catered to the many Indian tourists or à la carte. The à la carte was simple but tasty fare. One thing for sure is that is very peaceful.

Stayed at the beautiful resort, on our recent visit to Bhutan.
Friendly staff, peaceful ambiance & the colour Green..... wowwwwww
Lush rice paddy fields, were so soothing for the eyes, butterflies, birds and quititude....
The property overlooks the Punakha valley. They grow lots of fruits & veggies for their consumption. All the rooms are large, comfortable and clean. The bathroom to were big, basic but neat & clean.
There were very few inhouse guests, 5 rooms booked in all. They asked us to preorder our dinner, which we did..... the buffet was not great but freshly prepared. Food should not be too priority on your visit to Bhutan....... natural beauty should!
A lovely place to stay..... a three day stay is recommended to detox and rejuvenate.......

We stayed in the resort for two nights in a standard room( they have only two types- standard and deluxe). It is not a huge property, but maintained well. The rooms face mountains and paddy fields. The animals from the fields may wake you up early morning! There is a window seat, table, queen size bed and two chairs in the room. Bathrooms in the standard rooms do not have a bathing tub. the idea of the hotel is to keep it simple and not add to wastage. They provide a shampoo and soap, towels.
You have to walk down to the dining area which is also simple and neat. there is a bar and cafe apart from the dining services. Breakfast is very basic- bread, eggs, cornflakes and for those who want- indian food. There isn't much of choice with regard to food- but thats the case with Punakha and not only the hotel.
Only problem was that the rooms are next to each other in a corridor and because of that sound may travel from one room to another especially because it is so quiet. The dining staff is very polite and takes good care.

Having arrived at Drubchhu resort as part of a tour we were shown our room, whilst large, it also had loads of damp on the wall, stains on the bed and dirty chairs. After raising a complaint we were shown 2 more rooms with the same problems. We eventually gave up on inspecting further rooms and asked our agent to change our hotel and left.
I would advise staying elsewhere!

Dear nwhoran, Greetings from Drubchhu and a very Happy New Year! We are very saddened to hear that you were unhappy with our rooms. As it so happened, you were shown a room that was supposed to be closed for maintenance. For that mistake, we sincerely apologize! Being a 27 room property, we do have rooms that are in good condition and it was very unfortunate that you did not want to have a look at these rooms! Please do visit us again so that we may have a chance to meet and exceed your expectations! Warm regards, Pema Euden

Drubchhu Resort is the kind of place that seems to focus on the right things, the staff is polite and efficient, the food is great and is served in more than generous helpings, the rooms are clean and uncluttered. The outdoor areas are beautifully manicured with flowering plants and organic herbs. The Drubchhu Cafe serves great coffee and deserts.
The best thing is the personal touch Pema and her mother bring to the resort. That makes all the difference. In a few years from now this should be the place to stay in Punakha

Stayed at Drubchhu Resort for one night.
Enjoyed our stay there, and I think the highlight of this place is the location in the fields. You can see from your window the people working the fields and the cows wandering around. Nice views of the valley too.
The room is not very fancy, very basic stuff. Not even a tv and don't even think of wifi because is terrible at the hotel. It is clean though and the room is comfortable, just a bit too soft for me.
The bathroom was basic too but ok, only problem was the window which couldn't be covered and didn't have any shade or curtain so everyone - specially at night - from the fields can see you inside.
Food was ok and they have a bar opened til 2300 for after dinner drinks. We tried the coffee shop too and the coffee was pretty good.

This was the best hotel we stayed in the 2 weeks we were in Bhutan. New, modern and comfortable room with exceptional food and guest service. The owner was very helpful to quickly move us to another room when the WIFI in our room did not work. Recommends to stay on the second floor for more privacy. Hotel is within walking distance to a small local market which becomes more lively towards the evening.

Some rooms will be wheel chair friendly but not the full hotel its at different levels.
I do not know what the temperature would be like in June as we were at this hotel at the beginning of April and our room was one of two just off the main reception area. There was no air conditioning in the room, but there were large windows with wire mesh on them so you could have them open without getting any insects in the room. Although it was hot during the day the temperature during the night was not a problem.
