We wondered where we were going, our mini bus seemed to be going into someone's backyard! Only small, one block for rooms (2 levels) and Reception/Dining - 2nd level of the other block. It seems to be a family enterprise. Rooms adequate, bathroom okay, however, heater doesn't seem to radiate much heat! Wifi (free) only worked in the Reception/Lounge area.... More

A pleasant enough place with good comfortable rooms and plenty of hot water (thank goodness as it was freezing!) The staff very obliging and the buffet meals acceptable but the stray dogs at night - a big issue in Bhutan - barked all night. 2 electric heaters packed up in my room so it was a case of wearing as... We stayed here for two nights. Its a very cosy property overlooking the Jakar Dzong, and the views are great, especially in the evening when the Dzong is lit us. Put up a chair on the terrace outside the restaurant and enjoy. The food in this part of Bhutan is very traditional and takes a little getting used to, but... More

I have been in Bumthang many times with groups from Myths and Mountains and always stay at the Jakar Village Lodge. The owner, Dasho Gasey Lhundrup is a very important person in the history of Bhutan and can give you some excellent insights into the culture that one does not often hear. The son and his wife, who manage the... More

Really liked it here, nice room, clean and warm radiator as can get cold here. Hot water if you let it run a bit. Good food and lots of it...great family who run the place, really helpful and trying to please. Staff lovely and they even lent us their Kiras for the festival and helped us dress properly!! Great fun...top... More

We were dropped off by our tour guide and driver to stay overnight before they themselves drive back to Paro in order to meet our flight arriving in Paro the next morning from Bumthang......we had chosen flying rather than enduring the 12-hour car journey from Jakar to Paro. Our tour guide had already discussed with us about the time for... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights-stay while attending local festivals in the Bumthang area. Experiencing Jakar Lodge's charm and authenticity is exactly why we love to travel. Four generations of Dasho Gasey Lhendup's family contribute to the hospitable ambiance, from proprietor Gasey to his darling 2-year-old great-granddaughter; traditional architecture with hand-painted guest rooms; delicious food authentically created by owner's daughter.... I've been traveling to Bhutan for 25 years, in that time the changes to the infrastructure and hospitality have been astounding. For almost a decade new 5 star foreign owned hotel properties have been popping up throughout western and central Bhutan. All very good, but with one flaw––you don't feel like you're in Bhutan––they could be anywhere. Thankfully a handful... More

Good part: 1. View from the balcony Bad Part: 1. Heating was terrible 2. Customer service was non-existant. My heating stopped at 9:30 pm and reception refused to replace it as "They don't work after 9 pm" 3. Location is inaccessible- far off from the city and the road to getting there was pretty bad 4. Food was horrendous. One... More

Great property maintained by a family, it offers comfortable rooms, nice restaurant and great terrace with view of valley and Jakar Dozong. Staff and owner are very friendly and take care of all your need. It has paid wifi ($3 for your stay).
