Quite basic but comfortable hotel outside Jakar. Room not large and bed a bit small and hard. Reasonable breakfast and pleasant dinner. One night we paid a bit extra for a cheese fondue which made a change from the normal fare.

Our motorcycle tour group came here. Service and facilities were excellent, but WiFi was poor to average. Food was excellent including home made items. There was a cat in the dining room - not good for those of us with allergies. My room had a small cylindrical wood burning heater - worked brilliantly.

We had a fantastic stay at the Swiss Guest House. The staff at the property are polite, kind and welcoming. The accommodations are comfortable and clean. The restaurant serves fresh and wonderful food. The views of Bumthang are amazing. Our family loves the staff of this hotel and look forward to coming back in the future.

Having traveled frequently to Bumthang, I am familiar with each of the major "hotels" in Bumthang and nothing even comes close in ambience, food and price. The guesthouse is run by a former Swiss immigrant, Fritz Maurer, who married locally and raised his family in Bumthang during the '70's. His son and daughter-in-law now run the day to day operation.

Most of Bumthang's hotels are located on, or just off, the busy main road down on the valley floor. The guesthouse is situated 5 minutes from the city center on the side of the valley facing the Jakar Dzong. It is absolutely picturesque. One negative is that the rooms are not facing the view due to the cold winter winds that sweep up from the valley floor, but a short stroll in the orchard and you have a breath-taking view of the entire Chhokar Valley.

The rooms are comfortable and like most hotels in central Bhutan are heated by a central woodstove.

The dining is superb. The have their own dairy farm which supplies milk to their Swiss imported cheese factory that produces all of the hotels dairy products fresh to your table. Their apple orchard produces jams. jellies and perserves that are outstanding. They raise their own pork products from the whey leftover from the cheese making. I even sampled "bear bacon" for the first time at their table.

I insist on staying here every tim I return. The cost is included in the daily visa.

I can not say enough about the great service, food and accommodations by this wonderful family run enterprise.

Dan

We stayed in this hotel for 6 night and enjoy the scinery around the hotel, beside the trouble to set up the fire house and also an expirience to have one in the bed room, without supply of shower gel and shampo, the stay is comfortable even Without tv and the internet is not strong enough, on the forth night when I woke up around 4 am and set up the firehouse then do meditation, an hour later I saw some dust flying around me and I saw there is a lot of dust on my bed sheet and the sink in the toilet.
I reported this to the receptionist and she sent cleaner to my room and told me that it was cause by the dust pan is too full, so remember to ask them to clean the pan/ tray after 2-3 days, and never adjust the air well.

Whatever was wrong in the past has for the most part been resolved. The only negative is that the only heat in the rooms are wood burning stoves. On cold nights, as it was when during our trip, either it going to get quite cold or someone has to stoke the fire all night long. This is only an issue in the colder months.

Otherwise the place is a delight, the food was excellent, the staff charming and helpful. One should bear in mind that this is Bhutan and traveling there is generally rustic, that is part of the fun.

Bumthang and its beauty may amuse you, but this accomodation will surpass all your expectations in terms of all the standards. Having set in the beautiful uptown of Bumthang, it is away from all the chaos of the town and has a traditional Bhutan feel to it. Built mostly of wood this also introduces you to a unique amalgamation of Switzerland and Bhutan.

Managed by a very nice guy named Tashi who makes your stay more homely, this has everything to make your stay once in a life time experience. Food is mostly Europeon but hotel management will give importance to your demands as well.

Always at your service Tashi and his team will make sure all your comforts are met. Well maintained rooms and clean rest rooms. A very old and traditional room heater. Guys go for it with out second thought.

Tashi will be there to take care of the rest. All the best Tashi, you guys rock!!!

We stayed here for 3 days & absolutely loved it. As an Indian it gave me the feeling of living on a farm. There are apple trees all around. The food ( fixed menu) is absolutely awesome. The owner stays at the premises & I guess that's the reason to the great hospitality & finger licking food. We wanted to celebrate our friends birthday & the owner very sweetly arranged for a home made cake which was again really nice. They can also arrange for your own little camp fire & have a private party if you desire. Panda beer is available by the tap. All in all great rooms, great food, great hospitality - u cannot ask for more. I had written the first half whilst I was staying at the hotel. However I would like to add a word of caution when it comes to billing. We were told dinner buffet per person would be priced at INR 400 per person, however at the end of the trip in the invoice we were charged INR 500, per person. We were 4 of us & we had 3 meals hence the difference was substantial. Also the coffee is not part of the breakfast & is charged at INR 80/- per cup. One last thing on the night before leaving I had checked with sonam Maurer the owner for the cost of a packed sandwich & she had said INR 150/- however in the bill she charged us INR 190/-. Thus please ensure you'll get a daily bill & not wait for the bill at the end of your stay

We spent 3 nights here in room #38, which is on the ground floor, farthest from the restaurant and reception. While a room on the upper floor might have been preferable, ours was fine. It was spacious, but not as large as the other rooms we had during our tour of Bhutan. It was also the only one that was not equipped with a hair dryer. This was not a big deal, since we brought one. The room had both a wood stove and an electric heater. The wood stove put out lots of heat but the electric heater came in handy after the wood stove had gone out. There were 2 festivals going on during our stay so the place was full. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at times, but they managed to take good care of us. While both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style, it was not the usual Bhutan tourist fare. We enjoyed homemade soups, assorted pastas and meat sauces, homemade bread and jam for breakfast and locally brewed Red Panda beer on tap. It would have been nice if they had a toaster at breakfast though. Otherwise this was a very pleasant stay, and it was the best hotel food that we had in Bhutan.

My sleepover in the Swiss Guest House was by accident. A German academic who offered me a ride from Thimpu to Trashinga (with stopover in Bumthang) brought me to this place. After 10 hours of harrowing vehicular trip consisting of swerves and cuts, Swiss Guest House was heavenly.

We gulped 3 glasses of Panda Beer right away and the waiter, a young lad, was very attentive to our needs. Then we headed to our room--very spacious and comfy, and the attendant offered to make a fire for us to warm the room but we declined (in October, the climate was just right).

The place is very tranquil, the room is elegant, and the service is attentive. Great place, and the price for a sleepover is altogether inexpensive!
