A nice hotel with clean room, good WiFi and friendly staff. Stayed for one night and I think I was the only guest there as it was a low season among COVID time. Upon arrival, I didn’t know where to park my car. Called the hotel and the staff directed me to park just outside the hotel along the street - they blocked the space for their hotel guests. I am not sure during the high season whether there will be enough parking spaces. Morning breakfast in their restaurant was tasty and good. Overall a nice stay.
Almost superfluous review. Very little to add to the praise that has already been heaped on this hotel. Very friendly welcome. Great food with good view over the rooftops. Lovely little shop with great value local crafts. Rooms are large and spotlessly clean. Full of character even in the annex. Large friendly dog at reception. Seems like the best place to stay in Berat. Good value.
We considered ourselves the two luckiest travelers in Albania after we spent two nights in this fabulous establishment. Words defy how warm, inviting, and uniquely gorgeous this place is - dark wood timbers, the entire place oozing with Albanian decor and Ottoman antiques and then there was the staff...We called the three front desk cool Albanian guys - “the three amigos”. They were all exceedingly competent, super friendly, and personality in the stratosphere! Of course the hotel had a darling mascot- a white, fluffy dog named Coco (sp?) who roamed the bar and front entrance area always looking for a hug. Breakfast was unbelievably delicious and served in an upstairs all glassed in area with a gorgeous panoramic view of the cliffed hillside houses and Mt. Tomorri . Dinner with local wine, freshly prepared Albanian and international food - well, we are foodies - and our two dinners there were the best in Eastern Europe!! Alex (I may have the name slightly off) was our server both evenings and he was terrific - great recommendations and terrific service!! Oh and location? - well step out the front entrance onto the cobbled stone street and this is the main walkway up to the castle and its environs. In a few minutes’ walk - you are there. In short, Berat and Hotel Mangalemi - magical! We can’t wait to go back!!!!!…
We booked a couple hours prior to arriving and we were met at the door since we had provided our estimated time of arrival. The gentleman waiting for us took our luggage and was nice enough to go park our vehicle. The rooftop restaurant was closing however they made an exception and cooked us a beautiful meal. Our room was facing the back garden and was extremely lovely. Overall a 5 star stay in a hotel that would go for at least 20 times the price in Canada. A quick walk downhill and you will be in the middle of everything.
