This fabulous hotel, located on a side street close to the centre of Berat; doesn’t disappoint. On arrival we were met by the owner, offered refreshments and even had them take all the groups luggage (there were 18 of us) to our bedroom doors.
The bedrooms are across 2 floors, no lift. A wooden interior that gives the hotel character and a small gift shop. Staff are wonderful; friendly, attentive and genuinely want you to have a great stay.
Some bedrooms have balconies (we did); others overlook a stunning court yard. The bedrooms are spacious with air con, tv and double/single beds. A memory foam mattress ensures a great nights sleep. There’s also complimentary water in the small fridge provided.
The bathroom has a rainhead shower (fabulous), hairdryer and complimentary ‘smellies’
The restaurant is spacious and the food (and wine) to die for - cheap at the price too. This was easily the best breakfast of 9 hotels for me - a buffet style with great selection or cooked to order other items (we opted for omelettes, which were tasty, fresh and well cooked).
Located quite close to amenities and places of interest, the hotel is ideally placed.
Book it - you won’t be disappointed

I really loved my stay at Hotel Mangalemi. It is a beautiful, traditional style building in the center, that is immaculately kept and run by a lovely family.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights for our first time visit to Berat and we're so glad to have stayed here.

The Location was perfect. It is in the heart of the UNESCO heritage region. It is a short walk away from everything. The river, the old town, the castle, cafes and restaurants, markets, etc.

The food/restaurant was superb. It turns out that the restaurant that is part of the hotel is one of the best in town. The family mama is in charge of the kitchen. An amazing breakfast buffet was included so don't miss it. They also serve lunch, dinner, and also have a bar downstairs. Everything I've tried there was like, wow! So fresh and delicious!

The rooms. We ended up staying 1 night in a double room and 1 night in a twin room due to lack of availability, but the host made the process of moving rooms very very easy and smooth. I loved the whole decor and vibe of the entire hotel. They Incorporated and kept the traditional and authentic look and feel while making the rooms comfortable and clean for modern needs. It was beautiful and charming around every corner. Keep in mind that it is an old building which means, sound insulation isn't always the best. I heard chairs being moved around in the level above the room and when there are people in the hallway you will be able to hear everything. But I really didn't mind this much during my stay.
The rooms and bathrooms are very clean, the beds were very comfortable, they have comforters if you get cold.

Excellent service! I have to say that the level of service at this hotel is the best I've experienced in Albania. Warm, welcoming, and so helpful with everything! You can tell that the family really cares about the quality of your stay on all aspects.

If you are visiting Berat and you're trying to figure out where to stay, I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel!

Happy travels.

I reviewed Tomi's Hotel many moons ago. This time, I looked up a few recent reports and as expected, they were all brilliant. When I arrived unexpectedly, I was welcomed with open arms and with the utmost hospitality. Tomi and Valter were there and immediately was I fed and watered. Leta and Justina were there, to make the welcome complete.
The hotel was fantastic, refurbished to perfection. Valter mentioned that there were seven more rooms in a nearby street. My room was like a doll's house. I was afraid to move things,in fear of disturbing them. Perfect in every way. I was especially impressed with the mosaic covered shower, even the floor was made up of mosaic tiles. There was no danger of slipping here. Hot water was plentiful and forceful. Super!
I could go on, but I'm sure that my space is limited. My stay was limited to one overnight, unfortunately. Next time I will remain for a while. I will be back soonest! Thank you, Mio family and staff for your wonderful welcome! Shume falemenderit!

The room was wonderful! The photos I have of it are too large to add to this site but believe me, it’s old world charm at its best! Down to the handmade comforter on the bed! The staff was welcoming and helpful at every opportunity. Beds are comfortable with 2 different types of pillows so you can choose the best one for your head. The water is drinkable at 111 parts per million (very good).
This place is a great place to stay, the gardens are beautiful and I only wish I got to stay here longer!

One of the nicest places that I have ever stayed. When I enquired I was told that the main hotel was fully booked but there was availability in their annexe just a short distance up the hill. This turned out to be also a heritage Ottoman building with a spacious room, beautiful wooden ceiling and floors and a delightful sheltered private balcony. The staff were so welcoming and helpful, parked my car in their private car park and took my case right up to the room for me. Breakfast and dinner was served in the main hotel which is on the main hill leading, very steeply, up to the castle which anyone visiting Berat must go and see with its incredible views and fascinating history. I would add that the booking was all done by email and on mutual trust and payment was only taken on my very satisfied departure. They are true hoteliers of the old school.

We spent 2 nights in the hotel traveling through Albania with a rented car. We were offered a very nice room on ground floor with a small terrace and garden view, but changed to the upper floor to have view on the city and had a small terrace, Both rooms were very nice, but we preferred the view upstairs. Great breakfast on a big terrace, very good and friendly service, all sights in walking distance and parking place in front of the building. We totally enjoyed our stay there.

This place is delightful. Small, family run, beautifully renovated and centrally located.

Super warm welcome on arrival, bags carried to your room (and back again when you check out), good WiFi, aircon (if you need it), beautiful rooms and excellent showers.

Breakfast was fabulous, best had in 10 days of travel...dunner was one of the best too.

Soecail mention to Cookie the dog and the black cat for being patient photographic subjects and providing general entertainment.

We stayed here two nights. We wished it had been longer. Really a home from home. This is a proper family-run hotel with the owners working as hard as their staff. Several languages are spoken fluently. We had a delicious dinner and two tasty breakfasts - fruit, rice pudding and freshly-made scrambled egg. Front of house and waiters all extremely friendly and never too busy for a friendly chat. Best of all was drinking raki in the bar and playing with the kittens. Cookie, the rescue dog graciously consents to a belly rub and a cuddle. Plenty to do in this gorgeous town. Get here whilst it’s still authentic.

We were a group of 16 and were immediately welcomed to this family run hotel with a shot of blackberry raki and a walnut Turkish delight whilst the hotel collected the luggage from our large bus which couldn't make it up the cobbled street. It is a small labyrinth of rooms, some with wooden balconies some arranged through a stone clad courtyard and garden where the cat sprawled lazily on the swing seat. My room had traditional wooden windows and curtains and many local touches. The family own the shop opposite and the managers wife makes many of the products, in particular the hand made serviettes woven on a small loom. The restaurant is run by two highly efficient and friendly waiters who managed to cope with a full restaurant for supper and we're back again first thing for the breakfast which included all the normal things that Albanian hotels offer, plus strawberries. It is a delight to stay here and relax in the comforts of traditional hospitality.

I loved staying here the first time and decided to stay here again, I actually don't think I'd stay anywhere else. The hotel is in a fabulous, central location. The hotel is in a historic building that's been beautifully restored. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and awesome. The best part though is the amazingly friendly, welcoming, and helpful staff. They're all really wonderful - the guys at the front desk, the lady who runs the gift shop, the waiters, everyone. Breakfast is a feast. If I come to Berat again I will definitely be staying here.

When we arrived we were served a welcome drink of raki. It comes in a locally handcrafted copper container with another inner copper container. The copper containers are really unique and I actually bought 3 of them in the gift shop.
