Travelers' Choice
This is a low density resort, driven by a passion for the environment, intelligent use of materials, and strong support for island culture. Mango Bay is tucked away off the beaten track, with Vietnam's first rammed earth bungalows, enclosed by beach and protected forest. There are no air-cons, television sets or telephones in the rooms for a true fusion with nature at the island's first eco-friendly resort. All rooms and bungalows have open sea views and offer mosquito nets.

Mango bay just ticks all the boxes one could wish for during a holiday. We always like to come here, but now with a new chef and menu, it just keeps on getting better. New fans on the bungalow terraces are just what was missing. Just excellent.

We stayed one night at the Mango Bay Resort in May 2020. The view is so nice especially the view from the restaurant. The room is spacious, however, equipment is a bit old and there are lots of mosquito (which is quite difficult to avoid when you choose such style of resort). Be aware of this and prepare some suitable equipment. The food is a bit expensive but the taste is fine. The beach is nice, clean but there are some rocks which you need to be careful with. The beach is good for kayaking. Our kids enjoyed it.

My friend recommended I visited Mango Bay when I was looking to escape the colder weather in Hoi An and find somewhere quiet/inspirational to write for a few days. And I wasn't disappointed. Mango Bay offers a tranquil paradise – you feel like you have the entire island to yourself – but still has all the comforts you could ever need. I thought I would be bored after 5 days (my husband joined me for my final 2 days) but I didn't leave the resort and would've been happy to stay for much longer! Everything is wonderful – the staff are incredibly kind and friendly, with amazing English, too. The eco-friendly resort and its surroundings are just beautiful and far more special to immerse yourself in than a luxury hotel. The tropical outdoor bathroom/shower was just a wonderful experience and the food was delicious, too! Meals were a good deal more expensive than I'd normally pay but as breakfast was so big, I didn't need lunch. ;) There's plenty to do, from free yoga classes to paddle boarding and kayaking, although I was happy to just do some writing and lounge on one of the different private beaches in the afternoons. I can't fault Mango Bay and will definitely be returning there again. Highly, highly recommended.

What was good: - clean beach with clear water - free water sports - free sand toys for children - patient, kind staff - plentiful breakfast - beautiful aesthetics all around. All the buildings are made from natural materials with no TVs in the rooms. It was perfect to 'get back to nature' What was not so good: - service was very slow and the wait staff did not understand what we wanted much of the time - the food quality has decreased somewhat over the past couple of years. For hotel food, it's good, but I wouldn't go here if it was a stand alone restaurant - the kids menu could have some healthier options I would definitely recommend Mango Bay in spite of some of its downsides. I would suspect the service was so poor because we were here over the Christmas/New Year holiday. It is however, the perfect location and it's a wonderful change from being in the dusty, polluted city!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the north side of the restaurant if you want close access to the sandy beach.

Many years ago 3 mates protected a peninsular and designed sustainable bungalows for mates with an excellent bar and menu - with plenty of vegan options. Details are inspiring/visionary - solar panel - low impact/focused aircon, open air bathrooms, sustainable building materials including rammed earth - staff are beautifully human and perfectly trained. Pathways plus are by a Kew Garden's horticulturalist/environmentalist - great plants and animals. Crystal clear water. A great place to take over for special occasions with old mates.
