My wife and I went had a traditional Balinese massage here. It was so good that I was falling in and out of sleep throughout it. I had a Masseuse called Danni, but my wife’s lady (who’s name I don’t recall) was also great. The massage is offered In the Spa section of the Matahari hotel. They have proper massage beds which was a plus.

The cost for a 60min Balinese massage was 110k IDE. By comparison, we had some masseuses come to our hotel and give a mediocre massage - on our hotel beds - for 150k IDR. I know which one I’ll choose next time.

I've stayed with The Matahari 'Crew' in Tulamben five or six times now and I will stay again. Absolutely!!
As a diver of 40 years, instructor and amateur underwater photographer it's my one stop place to go diving to enjoy and tune in before heading off somewhere else. But, that's not the only reason why I choose Matahari over other places in the area.
The accommodations on all levels are very comfortable and clean being serviced every day. Breakfast is included and also bottled water both a plus imo.
The restaurant area is right on the beach with Mt Agung to the south west with views around to The drop off and point and on those very early mornings you'll see Lombok and Mt Rinjani off in the distance which only adds to the whole experience.
The food here is I think some of the best around with excellent renditions of Balinese food that are pretty hard to beat especially in the area.
The staff in the restaurant, at the front desk and in general throughout the whole property are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help you with anything.

This was our third time that we spent a week in this amazing resort, after having stayed here in October 2013 and 2018. This time we came with a group of six Belgian divers. The accommodation was excellent in spacious and clean (deluxe) rooms with private bathroom and equipped with air conditioning. Breakfast and other meals were well above average (certainly as good as elsewhere in Tulamben).
But the main attractiveness of Matahari Resort is the quiet and relaxed atmosphere that is transmitted by the overall arrangement of the place, with lush gardens and cozy Balinese-style rooms and bungalows. Most important is that the staff are all amazingly friendly and helpful. All this makes you feeling at home.
We had booked a package including accommodation, diving, a one day excursion, Balinese massage in the SPA and transport from and to other locations in Bali. All this was offered as indicated. Moreover, the timetable was very flexible (no objection to last-minute changes), excursions and transport were in a comfortable minibus. The dive center is very comfortably located on the beach, next to the restaurant. The diving, as arranged by two “private” dive guides, was just superb.
In short, Matahari Resort does not offer luxurious but rather very convenient accommodation and activities at a very reasonable price. An absolute recommendable site for both divers and non-divers. We will certainly be back!

We booked a whole package at matahari, ssi Open water diving course and spa. Everything was exceptionaly good, the communication between suci in adwance was super nice and uncomplicated.

Diving center:
As i said me and my son booked also a diving course,. Didi was our diving instructor, as a father of a 14 year old kid I was a bit scared of the diving course, but obviously for no reason. Didi is an awesome teacher, he took his time explaining us everything in detail and was super friendly. My son had some problems with one of his tooth while diving and unfortunately we couldnt finish the course because we already booked another location in ubud. But we decided that we will come back and finish the course and thats what we did now, a simplle whatsapp text to didi and everything was organized, its just lovely how everybody in matahri resort tries to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Im looking forward meeting didi again tomorrow and finish the course. The equipment was also great and the riffs in front are an extra plus for the location, my wife spend her time snorkeling with turtles and soo many fish while me and my son where diving.

Resort
We decided to go for the ocean view bungalow wich is on two floors with a very nice terrasse, the rooms where clean, and again the staff extra friendly and helpfull, the room is full of books to read on the big terrasse. It has a misquito net wich we did nod needed, fridge and ac. The reception was also very helpfull, we misscalculated a bit and did not bring enough cash. They drove us to the next city to an atm, and when that atm did not worked, they gave us cash we could pay for with our credit card. I mean its just a tiny detail but it just shows that they want to help you out as much as they can. I fell instantly in love with the place and the team.

Restaurant
Excellent food,, the thai food and everything we tried was very good, so where the drnks with a beautifull view. The staff was also very nice in the restaurant.as i said we had not a lot of cash and i felt miserable that I couldnt tip directly in the restaurand. We tipped in the end at the reception with the cardi hope that was ok too.

Now we are back in the tulamben area but matahari was already booked out but still they offered us a driver to pick us up at our place for the diving course, but i allready miss that place.

Total recommendation, loved it

After covid we finally could go back to Bali. And of course back to Matahari.

We booked a year in advance and asked for one of the bigger bungalows and friends of us took the other bungalow.
We arrived on time at the airport and our driver from Matahari was waiting for us.
The transfer to the resort went smooth, even with the heavy traffic around the airport.

Arriving at the resort was so very nice. All the people working there before covid are still working there! Suci, the owner, has kept the people healthy and provided food during the pandemic.
Everybody still knew my name and we were really welcome once again.

The 19 days went without any problem, only too fast!

The Matahari team made the holiday very nice and with the great food, fantastic diving and the weather it was once again a perfect time.

Thank you Suciajd team!

I made a last minute reservation and the staff was prepared for my arrival. The property is located on a very narrow strip perpendicular to the ocean, so there is a an alleyway with rooms on either side, so the view from most of the rooms is not scenic. BUT, you shouldn't be in your rom other than sleeping and showering anyway!!! The pool and restaurant areas have sweeping views of the ocean.

The room was what I expected for the very good price- clean, comfortable and functional. I didn;'t need any of the frills that higher end hotels offer. The included breakfast had a number of egg and pancake choices and was freshly cooked and tasted good.

A major shout out to the owner Suci ace absentmindedly left my passport at the hotel and was already 3.5 hours away once I realized it. She arranged that the passport could be delivered the following morning to ensure I could make my international flight. I was so grateful for her effort and initiative on my behalf. She truly solved an incredibly stressful situation.

If you are diving at the Liberty wreck, you can't get much more convenient than Matahari.

Enjoyed my stay, you will too!

The resort is on the the shore front and so provides excellent access to the dive shop, the restaurant and the beach (for shore dives). It is compact, but attractive and quiet (though I think the guesthouse rooms could be noisy as they are situated on the main road which is busy during the day, quiet at night). The staff are all lovely - very friendly and helpful. Our room was very reasonably priced, if small, and there was a problem with the plumbing, so there was an unpleasant smell in the bathroom. Despite this problem, overall we were very happy with our stay at Matahari Tulamben. It was a great place to meet other divers.

We had two deluxe rooms and both were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and there was enough choice for everyone. This is not only a good choice for divers and snorkelers but a relaxing place for those who just want to explore the area or see a different part of Bali. Prices are very reasonable and the staff were all pleasant. The view from the restaurant is stunning, looking out at the ocean and Mt Agung behind. The 4 of us used the spa twice each. If you book two people at once you may need to ask the girls to stop talking / whispering, something that needs to be addressed. Once asked they quickly stopped, however massage services should be quiet. The massages and other services were good though. There is an inexpensive laundry on the street, a couple of convenience stores and a few local warungs. We would happily return and thank the staff for a lovely stay.

On first look, everything looks great. But working condition is actually not so good when in use. Floor is not mopped well, only swept so still got dust on my feet when i walk. One of the bed "collapsed" meaning sunk in at the middle cos many ppl have probably slept on it. Toilet door is creaky. Water heater is inconsistent; at first warm later cold. Shower drainage is kind of clogged, doesnt flow well and the shower floor will flood abit. Toilet sink tap is shaky. Toilet bowl flushing is weak; after flushing toilet paper would still remain in e bowl. The toilet flushing water also emits a smell, not too bad jux have to close the cover. I did not dare to do any big business in my room toilet due to the flushing problem. Decided to walk to the restaurant toilet to do any big business since the flushing there works well. Other than the above mentioned, its still livable. One pro of this place is that i love the food there. Not oily/salty and healthy, they serve fruit platters. I would come back for the food. I wanted to upload photos for this review but am facing a network error.. hope this review helps another travellor make a more informed decision.

A superb diving resort! There are plenty of knowledgeable guides for varied type of dives. The Liberty wreck is only 2 mins away but the house reefs had an abundance of macro lives . The whole resort was well ran by owner, Succi. The room I booked was large and even had a settee but the balcony opened to the main road, I couldn't sleep the 1st night and upgraded to a bungalow, for a small extra charge, away from the road. Recommended if you are a light sleeper.
The food in the small restaurant had great views overlooking the pebble beach and provided great food at low cost. I didn't need or wanted to eat anywhere else.
A lovely small friendly resort mainly for divers and their families.

We took our own boots and fins but those we saw seemed in good condition. Wet suits and bcd were fine too. We didn't have our own computer but apparently you can hire them (we didn't know that). You can also hire a camera, We did 9 dives over 3 days and only had a current on one of them.
