This was my least favourite of the five hotels we stayed in on our trip. The location is beautiful, nestled under the mountains on the edge of the winelands and the rather grandiose main building is tastefully, if theatrically, decorated but it had no soul. This wasn't helped by

Our second visit, and a year later it is still absolutely outstanding. Food phenomenally good, service friendly and attentive without being intrusive, Angelo the owner entertaining and informative. Superbly luxurious room opening onto quiet terrace, tasteful decor, amazing

A beautiful building - theatrical decor works well and is fun. The location is wonderful, peaceful and beautiful. The wide verandah in particular was a heavenly place to sit and relax and to take our meals. The room was luxurious and comfortable and the breakfast was good.

Dear Gillian, thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. Obviously, judging by your constructive comments not a great one and especially with regards to the food, which I find very unexpected if we consider all the past and post positive reviews. I can assure you that we always strive for perfection and your comments have been taken seriously and have been addressed. Although I understand and am in favour of views to be expressed in writing and in this kind of forums, I am surprised that your shortfalls were not addressed personally whilst we extensively chatted during breakfast, one of my routine that I love most, or mentioned to my wife on check out; even if it would have been too late to rectify them we could have at least addressed them immediately and not wait 7 days to do so. I hope that this unfortunate situation will not deter you from visiting us again. Kind regards from the Team at Grand Dédale.

Once you leave the road and start driving along a dirt track you realize that you are going off the beaten track and the first view of the house, white against a backdrop of mountains, is very refreshing. This was one of the nicest, if not THE nicest, place we have ever stayed,

Three nights are actually a bit more than 2 days. I spent twice 2 nights there, and it was always much too short in my opinion. But it depends if you're someone who always needs to be physically active . Things to do there: have wonderful meals, late breakfast, high-tea, wine testing; drive through the wine estates in the area, scroll through the hills, the wine fields and the forests, get pampered, swim, read, think, dream, try the labyrinth... ie just relax and enjoy time.
