On recommendation, we were able to spend a night in this magical place. A German couple gave us a warm welcome. Two very sweet Labradors are part of the family. A place of relaxation and peace. The rooms are very well equipped, the breakfast was served with great attention to detail and the dinner was excellent. Great service. Very friendly people. A look into the wine cellar was also worthwhile. An accommodation that we can absolutely recommend!!!

We have come to Fraai Uitzicht for many years every year we are in South Africa and have become friendly with the owner, Karl Papesch. This is the most stunning place in Robertson with open views (hence the name of the place) where you can find tranquility and peace, great dining and beautiful accommodations all in one place. This is a well-maintained wine farm with particularly amazing red wines. If you are interested in wine, Karl will probable take you on his private tour to see his cellar where he experiments with new wines all the time, hence he is known as the "mad scientist" in the area. It's truly interesting and fun for anyone who is interested in wine.
All cottages are beautifully furnished in the typical South African country style with showers under the stars. The garden and pool are clean, the restaurant serves the most delicious breakfasts and dinners (fine dining under the stars). Staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Local produce is being used, herbs from the garden and there are different things on the menu every day. Take the dogs, Bruno and Lola for a nice early morning hike. You will love it and so will they. :)

A very nice guest farm with incredibly friendly hosts and staff. The cottages and apartments are beautifully designed and offer a lot of comfort. The hosts speak German and are very friendly and communicative. Not only can you stay overnight here, but you can also have a delicious and interesting dinner. Wines from the farm's own production are also included to round things off. The guesthouse also has a lot to offer hikers in terms of scenery. For example, you can take a leisurely walk through the vineyards.

We toured the region by car at end to the wine harvest season. The family who run this vineyard, winery and garden with guest houses have created a warm and inviting place to rest and recuperate after the drives we had done. The few travelers are greeted by the very small staff. The garden is lush with bushes and flowerbeds in various stage of bloom. The sounds of nature are all you hear in the morning. We found the facilities modern within the centuries-old buildings. Romantic bath or warm shower were both easy and comfortable. The food is fantastic and has original flavours for those who are adventurous, like home-made ice cream flavoured with a local succulent shrub. Best steak I have had this year. The wines are excellent, all of them we both tasted. We plan to return again from the other side of the world.

We’ve been visiting Fraai Uitzicht for 20 years. Feels like home. This was an overnight stop on our way up the coast. Beautiful, quiet, restoring place. Comfortable, warm, quality accommodation. A guarantee of a spectacular meal second to nowhere ( we had the fillet) accompanied by lovely wine from the estate (this time the Grenache). Karl and Sandra, the owners, make you feel special, and the staff are discreet, attentive and knowledgeable. We keep going back. No surprise.

we had the pleasure of enjoying a stay at Fraai Uitzicht Guesthouse and loved it. The setting is absolutely indescribable - a hidden paradise that overwhelms with its beauty and tranquility. The cuisine, however, is the real highlight. The dishes are culinary masterpieces, prepared with fresh, local ingredients and a remarkable attention to detail. The service is first class and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. A stay here is an unforgettable experience that I can highly recommend to everyone.

Beautiful property but be aware there is nothing else to see or do ! Perfect get away for honeymooners or just for the peace and quiet. One or two nights are enough. Stayed in Merlot cottage which was lovely. Our male host ( Karl ) very welcoming, sadly the lady (!!) not so good. Despite being the only guests, she appeared to have no knowledge as to who we were and was incredibly discourteous. She had local friends in the restaurant so possibly too busy to deal with us at that stage. Sadly this spoilt my stay at this delightful place. We ate there that evening and were the only couple in the restaurant. Again Karl very helpful with the wine choices etc and my husbands food was good however I chose the lamb and it was uneatable, dry with no taste. I may have made the wrong choice !!! Next day we were shown the winemaking room which was great as had been told the day before that they couldn't do a wine tour !!
I would recommend this property but just think that some of the staff could be more welcoming especially when you have come so far ! I visit SA on a regular basis and this is the first time I have been (sort of) disappointed.

We stayed in this place for one night only. The place itsself is definately in a tranquill surrounding. The rooms are also nicley furnished with a warm atmosphere.
What we did not like was the dog´s poo on the gras from the young and (lovely) dog of the owner. But to sit in this smell on a terrasse is not ours.
Unfortunately it may have been harvesting time, so that big tractors with turnbrils drove directly behing the cottages on the small way to the farms. As they started at sunrise, we definately were awake.

Summary, yes it is beautiful but not worth the price.

I passed through the Robertson valley two years before on my first trip to South Africa and immediately fell in love with the area. I dropped by the Viljoensdrift wine estate to buy their magnificent Pinotage (I can definitely recommend the Pinotage from this estate, as well as the river cruise they organise) and the lady at the store recommended Fraai Uitzicht as a great place for lunch. She kindly called them to reserve a table and then gave me directions to the place. Fraai Uitzicht (means 'beautiful view' in Dutch/Afrikaans) is indeed stunning, located at the foot of the majestic Langeberg mountains and surrounded by gentle rolling hills covered with row after row of vines. I will never forget the lunch I had at the guesthouse's terrace and how happy I felt. At that moment, I promised myself that I would some day return for a longer stay.

I returned in October 2006 and stayed there for 3 nights. I recommend choosing the great value Klaas Voogds Experience package which includes two superb dinners (the 7-course dinner on day 2 was truly fantastic), a game drive in the nearby Klaas Voogds Nature Reserve, and entrance to the Soekershof Botanical Gardens (run by a Dutch couple - allow ample time for a chat with Yvonne. Her passion for succulents/cacti is inspiring).

I stayed at Riesling, one of the lovely cottages at Fraai Uitzicht. The cottage was very spacious, had a cosy interior and faced a beautiful garden - all the cottages open out into the beautifully-landscaped gardens/ponds. The personnel were very friendly, helpful and hospitable. One cold evening, I returned to my room and as I got into bed, I felt the divine sensation of a warm water-bottle tucked under the duvet at the foot of the bed! Heavenly indeed!

Without any qualms, I will recommend this hotel to anyone travelling through the Robertson area. To me, this place is simply magical.
