Generally we loved the atmosphere, the facilities and the comfort. Two things that proved a challenge, the gas stove was very ineffective and made boiling water a long process. A big outside fire place that isn't dangerously close to shrubs etc would be awesome as it is too hot to braai inside in summer/
A lovely secluded retreat away from the bustle of people. Birdlife in abundance. Walking trails aplenty. Once you get the knack of the "donkey" warming the pool you can soak until the stars come out! A true hideaway that is easy accessable.
Our family enjoyed a lovely, but very hot, (thank goodness for the plunge pool.) weekend at Pomegranate Homestead. A few of us tackled the waterfall hike early Saturday morning. The path is in places becoming quite overgrown and apart for a few scratches was not a problem. When we eventually reached the waterfall we had a dip in the pool. It must be great to see the waterfall after some rain. The children stayed behind and played cricket and swam in the plunge pool. (Very welcome considering the heat.) Overall it is a great place for a family to spend a weekend AWAY from it all and thankfully no cellphone signal.
That is such a beautiful place - will bring my family next time. Everything worked really well and everything we needed was there. Some thoughts: Some of the bags of wood were very wet. Perhaps add more firelighters as shops are far away. Great place - thank you
Great little cottage. Has everything that one needs. Unfortunately the solar electricity on the Friday night kept alarming even though the fridge was the only appliance plugged into the system. We ended up turning off the battery power and used candles. In the morning we turned everything back on and Saturday night all was working well. Could of done with more wood as we wanted the water of hot tub nice and warm. The dam was unfortunately dry but mountain pool was a wonderful venue for enjoying wild life, birds and being close to water. We started doing the hike towards Waterfall but due to lack of water turned back. Loved the quiet environment as my grandchildren loved exploring. As we were leaving a tribe of baboons made their way down the mountain but quickly disappeared into bushes as we left. A very enjoyable weekend was had.…
Was not sure what to expect but my o my…we were welcomed by mountains and fresh air! Was so beautiful! There is only necessity appliance and most of the time we enjoyed the company around the fire. I will most definitely go again!
We wanted a peaceful retreat and decided on a mountain lodge without any wifi, getting the kids to take bicycles instead of devices. They loved the hiking, paddling on the dam, and exploring wildlife, and even our teenagers wanted to stay longer - and didn't miss their phones! Simple and rustic - we will definitely be back
Definately not a fancy place, but comfortable and has everything you need to enjoy quality time with loved ones. Right in the middle of nature, the sounds of birds and fresh smell of the plants and herbs.
Pomegranate looks beautiful in the photographs, but it’s definitely not a place to stay in the winter. We left after a couple of minutes. Couldn’t stay there. The house in desperate need of repairs and an update.even if they think their prices are standard for the area, the house is not..
Buitenstekloof Mountain Cottage, Witkruis, was realy a special break-a-way from moment for my wife and myself. Driving from the tar road into the mountain gravel road was the beginning of medicine for the soul! Witkruis cottage was just what we were looking for, inexpensive, clean, and surroundings awesome. The fireplace is a winner as we set the fire almost on arrival. The interior very cosy for only a couple. We enjoyed the weekend tremendously. Only some attention can be given to the following : Gas heater turned off after about 30 minutes - empty. The sliding door to the bathroom not in proper working condition and lastly the container of dishwashing soap is not bigger than a small toothpick holder
