Detailed Reviews
Our family enjoyed a lovely, but very hot, (thank goodness for the plunge pool.) weekend at Pomegranate Homestead.
A few of us tackled the waterfall hike early Saturday morning. The path is in places becoming quite overgrown and apart for a few scratches was not a problem. When we eventually reached the waterfall we had a dip in the pool. It must be great to see the waterfall after some rain.
The children stayed behind and played cricket and swam in the plunge pool. (Very welcome considering the heat.)
Overall it is a great place for a family to spend a weekend AWAY from it all and thankfully no cellphone signal.

Thank you for your positive review, Dave - always lovely to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay here at Buitenstekloof! So glad you enjoyed the waterfall hike, as it is a wonderful hike meandering through the poplar groves and with mountains and nature all around, ending at the waterfall and a welcome dip in the mountain pool - especially as we experienced a heat wave during January! The plunge pool at Pomegranate Homestead is lovely to just relax and cool off. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Blessings Marié

A lovely secluded retreat away from the bustle of people.
Birdlife in abundance.
Walking trails aplenty.
Once you get the knack of the "donkey" warming the pool you can soak until the stars come out!
A true hideaway that is easy accessable.

We were three families which stayed in pomegranate house. There was ample space for everyone and the setting is beautiful. But the place needs some serious maintenance. We spent 2 of our 3 nights without electricity and electricity only came on at about 10am when the sun comes over the ridge. No candles were provided and without cellphone reception there is no way to contact the owners for help. We did get some from the owners when we drove down to their house in the evening. Cold showers were the order of the day and in the middle of winter that is not great! Only one heater worked so the kids all crammed into one room for warmth. I see on reviews that the electricity has been an issue for some time now. I'll be back again when all these problems have been sorted out.

Thank you to the Reens Family for such a lovely stay at the Buitenstekloof Mountain Cottages. They are such kind & hospitable hosts with complimentary wine & lovely farm vegetables - we felt really spoiled & taken care of. The place was off the grid & was so peaceful. The stars are magnificent out there with the backdrop of the Langeberg Mountains. This place is a gem - we appreciate your hospitality very much!

The perfect place to relax and disconnect from modern life. Baboons Gift Cottage was the perfect stay and had everything we needed to relax and enjoy the mountains and nature. The cottage was very clean and cooking was more than a pleasure. We had more than enough space to enjoy it to the fullest. The waterfall hike and summit hike were exceptional and really made our trip so precious! The hosts were very welcoming and made our stay very enjoyable , Thank you! What a special place this is!

The location is beautiful and was amazing being out in nature and doing a few hikes as well. The cottage itself is cute and had all the necessary amenities. With awesome views of the mountains from there. We also received a complimentary bottle of wine and a chocolate on our bed - which was a very sweet gesture. We will definitely be back for another stay.

We were 3 families that stayed for 3 days at Promegrante
The location is stunning but unfortunately the house needed maintenance and upgrade. The electricity is connected to a battery that ran out every night during our stay, luckily we bought candles. We had no hot water the last night of our stay
I really hope they will do something with maintenance & upgrade of the house because its stunning location and got a lot of potential

Buitenstekloof Mountain Cottage, Witkruis, was realy a special break-a-way from moment for my wife and myself. Driving from the tar road into the mountain gravel road was the beginning of medicine for the soul! Witkruis cottage was just what we were looking for, inexpensive, clean, and surroundings awesome. The fireplace is a winner as we set the fire almost on arrival. The interior very cosy for only a couple. We enjoyed the weekend tremendously. Only some attention can be given to the following : Gas heater turned off after about 30 minutes - empty. The sliding door to the bathroom not in proper working condition and lastly the container of dishwashing soap is not bigger than a small toothpick holder

This little cottage was exactly what we wanted - secluded and surrounded by mountains, singing birds waking us in the morning and a fireplace to keep the heat going throughout the day. It's basic but nothing was missing.
One suggestion would be to try and somehow cancel the noise of the battery of the solar panels. We had soft music playing on our little portable speaker and it helped. But it would be nice to be in total silence just with nature and the crackling fire.
We're definitely returning to this beautiful gem of a place.

What a great time we had at the secluded Buitenstekloof Mountain Cottages. Canoes on the dam, lounging in the splash pool, walks in the mountain, stargazing... Wonderful to just relax and breathe in the fresh air and enjoy nature!
