This cozy boutique Hotel is one of the loveliest places in Franschhoek, we are so glad we found that place! A healthy and yummy breakfast made us having a great start into our day, sitting in the serene inner courtyard sipping coffee and eating fresh fruits with creamy yogurt. Our host was assisting us with nice dinner locations and always...

What beautiful accommodation. Luxury rooms with the soft towels beautiful bathroom. Luxurious beds and bed linen. Lovely gardens. Franschhoek is a beautiful location lovely restaurants and bars. Something very upmarket shops. The Wine Tram is the best day out. Beautiful food and wine.

The guesthouse is under new management and has been renamed Macaron. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the decor was attractive. Our room wasn't as nice as some of the others maybe because we were only staying for 2 nights & it was facing the road but actually it was quiet. I asked for a flat sheet as thought...

We spent 6 nights in Feb 2017 and had a great experience! We had a lovely welcome from Louisa and Christopher, and the rooms were very comfortable, with lovely furnishings and very comfy beds. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - they helped with advice and restaurant reservations and when we had a problem with our next accomodation...

Had a wonderful stay. In a peaceful setting just behind the main street. Wonderful gardens, we had a spacious and immaculately furnished room. All members of the team were very friendly and helpful, especially Nadia who leads by example. All facilities were excellent, breakfast was a treat overlooking the gardens and pool area. Lots of choice at breakfast and very...

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a longer trip and it was the most disappointing stay of the holiday. We were never formerly checked in; weren't told about the name change (so spent 10 minutes driving around trying to find it as "macaron" was where we had expected our b&b to be!!); and no one ever spoke to...

Reading some of the other reviews, I think it depends on which room you choose as to whether it has air conditioning - we stayed in the Loft Room and it definitely has it. Absolutely beautiful, spacious accommodation with a huge bedroom with seating/sofas, balcony overlooking the gardens and pool, TV, bath tub in the room but also separate shower/bathroom...

Lovely and peaceful yet so close everything. Enjoyed a couple of nights here for the wine tours (wine tram is about 3 minutes walk away). Lovely location and very helpful staff. No air conditioning though so fans constantly on the go in the room.

Fantastic little BB. Perfect location and cozy room. The backyard if you can call it that is very nice and a perfect spot to enjoy the good and tasty breakfast. Perfect service and very helpful staff. Will definitely stay there again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The story of 'De Alchemist'. Cafe in Ghent, Belgium - Guesthouse in Franschhoek, South Africa During the Spring of 2013, Yves & Martine decided to start a new adventure by opening a nice little cafe in the old medieval town of Ghent, Belgium. They called it 'De Alchemist'. Because the place was so popular, Adrian and Emma - their 2 youngest children - also started working at the bar and it became a beautiful family business. On the wave of happiness and adventure, Yves and Martine took things one step further. During a short holiday in South Africa, they decided to buy a let down bed & breakfast and started another big adventure. Thanks to the ideas of Martine and the hands of Yves, the guesthouse turned into a beautiful oasis of peace and quiet in the beautiful wine valley of Franschhoek.
