Very close to the main street, yet very peaceful - two lovely pools & plenty of places to sit in the sun or the shade. Comfortable rooms & beds, large bathroom with lovely amenities - delicious breakfast. Christopher the manager was very helpful and accommodating. All round a fabulous stay in this beautiful town.

Used this guesthouse as a base for our visit to the wine lands. The staff were so friendly throughout our stay. The guesthouse itself exuded some rustic, colonial charm blended perfectly with contemporary furnishings. The courtyard garden is beautifully manicured with plenty of places to sit and relax. Management were helpful at making reservations for dinner. There is no a/c...

I was taken here for a surprise birthday away. De Alechemist is a place of tranquility in a vibrant town. We had the room by the front door. I was worried that we would be annoyed by people coming and going but we didn't hear a thing. We felt like the only people in the house. The room was lovely,...

The hotel is around the corner from the main street, very close to many restaurants and shops, yet just far enough away from the crowd to offer a peaceful retreat. The owner was very friendly and put lots of effort into making the guesthouse beautiful and cozy. Breakfast was served in the courtyard with an amazing view of the mountains...

De Alchemist is a gem of a Guesthouse located right in the heart of Franschoek. The hotel is colonial in style and feels like you're living in a Forest Gump dream! It's great value and the staff are lovely. Get the Loft Room if you can!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The story of 'De Alchemist'. Cafe in Ghent, Belgium - Guesthouse in Franschhoek, South Africa During the Spring of 2013, Yves & Martine decided to start a new adventure by opening a nice little cafe in the old medieval town of Ghent, Belgium. They called it 'De Alchemist'. Because the place was so popular, Adrian and Emma - their 2 youngest children - also started working at the bar and it became a beautiful family business. During a short holiday in South Africa, they decided to buy a let down bed & breakfast and started another big adventure. Thanks to the ideas of Martine and the hands of Yves, the guesthouse turned into a beautiful oasis of peace and quiet in the beautiful wine valley of Franschhoek.
