This boutique hotel is the perfect hotel if you want a quiet, peaceful getaway yet still in the heart of the Franschhoek wine region. The setting is beautiful and there is a pool that you can use as well as well maintained gardens and views from each room. There are stunning mountains all around you - and you can go on a hike/trek right from the hotel - the rooms are spacious, comfortable and luxurious and the staff is very friendly and pleasant, attentive to all your needs. Food is very tasty, and the the owner & manager father & son help to plan all your wine excursions, whether it be on the wine tram or a personalized tour with an amazing wine guide (we did both). We also had access to scheduling massages and yoga.

We went in early fall when there were only a handful of other guests in other rooms, so it was very quiet. It may become busier in the summer, but still lovely, I would imagine.

Highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a luxurious, yet close proximity to wine farms in one of South Africa's famous wine regions. And if you're there on a Friday, try to visit the Friday night outdoor market and food kiosks at Boschendal wine farm with live music.

This amazing and peaceful Boutique Hotel is located within the Wine Estate of Vrede & Lust in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Angala is a real gem and offers comfortable modern cottages and bungalows in a lovely, peaceful and quite environment. We were given their biggest bungalow including a private swimming pool with mountain views from our bedroom and from the pool. I loved their outside breakfast overlooking their natural pool in a nicely decorated garden. The spa is amazing as well!

Be aware that Angala Boutique Hotel is not in the centre of Franschhoek, but located between Franschhoek and Paarl in the beautiful area of Drakenstein. From the property you can easily go for a hike up to magnificent mountains and walk through the beautiful gardens. Don’t forget to go for a wine tasting at Vrede & Lust; you will receive a voucher for a complimentary wine tasting at the hotel. I could have stayed here for a few more days, because it’s so peaceful and you really come to rest. It's one of my favorite accommodations of South Africa in general. I would advise to stay at least two nights.

Dear Kim, Thank you for your lovely words about Angala. It really is our slice of paradise here in the Winelands. Being located outside of Franschhoek has come to be a massive positive for all our guests as we are located at centre of the Winelands towns and 10-20min drive will take you to Franschhoek, Stellenbosch or Paarl. With neighboring world famous estates like Babylonstoren, Rupert & Rothschild and Boschendal who all have wine and restaurants, one does not need to travel far at all to experience the best of the Cape Winelands as is show on our custom map on the website - in our area page. We hope to welcome you back to Angala again soon. Warm Regards, Dane, Aubrey & the Angala Team

This was our second stay at Angala and it was every bit as special. The hotel is at the top of the hill above a vineyard and has spectacular sweeping views across the valley. It really is something special.

The rooms are just as stunning. Huge beds and a comfy seating area, table, mini kitchenette and outside garden and seating area. The bathroom is large with indoor and outdoor shower and separate bath. The views again are stunning.

The public areas has loads of different seating (inside and out). The pools are stunning and lots of comfy sun loungers and sun/shade options.

The food options are limited (four platters during the day and then a set three course meal at night.) but everything is delicious. The chef was really good at catering for my many dietary requirements (I’m gluten and lactose free) and making sure my food was still every bit as delicious. We loved it although I think if we’d stayed longer we’d have found lunch in particular a bit repetitive.

Angala do a discount for returning guests. They also had a good rate on keeping our room for late checkout.

The staff are all super friendly and kind (special call out to the evening restaurant manager and his staff).

Hopefully we’ll be back for trip 3!

Dear Samsiebabes, Thank you for your lovely feedback! We love sharing this amazing space with our guests. Our 3 course set menu changes daily and we swop out any dish guests don't care for. We also change or make any dishes on request by our guests. Most guests like to explore the Winelands and their restaurants so we generally don't see them for lunch every day of their stay but next time you are with us, please just shout and we will add or make any dish to the lunch menu to keep it exciting :) We most definitely hope to see you back for a 3rd trip - lunch on me! Kind Regards, Dane, Aubrey and the Angala Team

This was supposed to be a special occasion for my birthday that turned into a horrible experience. There was no normal coffee in the room, only nespresso and some tea. I phoned reception and asked for another option to Nespresso, and if they had something like rusks or a bit of all bran that I could have the next morning when I wake up. They couldn't assist with the rusks or the bran. I got transferred to the manager, I asked him based on what are they a 5 star establishment, he didn't answer me instead he got arrogant and cockey and told me just because they dont have all bran I want to say they are not a 5 star hotel. I told him that his porter was dressed in a blue overall and gum boots, that none of the movie channels in the room worked. He said he would come to the room himself to show me how to operate the tv. He arrived with the waiter that brought my dinner. He was unable to select a movie channel as the message on the screen said "it is not part of the dstv bouquet". He said I was right there is no movie channels but he will send me some movies. The waiter arrived with 4 DVDs that was so old and actually a slap in my face to expect me to be happy with his selection of "ancient dcd's". I told the waiter the dvds are not something I would want to watch he can take it back. When I went to bed as there was nothing else I could do (no entertainment, no movies, not even a magazine), I saw that the fitted sheet on the mattress was too small for the mattress and in fact it was torn probably by someone trying to force the sheet to fit. I left the aircon on 25 to keep the room warm. I woke up during the night and felt that the room was ice cold. When I got up Saturday morning I saw the aircon temperature was on 18. I don't know if it automatically reverts to 18 after a while or whether it is a setting but my room was freezing cold nonetheless. I then tried to take a shower. The water pressure in the shower is non existent and the mixer function of the taps dont work. You either shower in ice cold water or you end up burning from the hot water. It is a slap in a guest's face to expect any decent person to make use of the shower in that room. I left without having breakfast and told them to email me the final statement. I wrote them an email as soon as I got back to my house to inform them of the nightmare I have experienced at their hotel. I am still waiting for a reply. This is not a 5 star hotel by any means and I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Dear Adele, I value your input and understand your frustrations and take feedback from you very seriously. I take your points openly and constructively and have addressed them with my team as a matter of urgency. I would like to take the opportunity to shed some light on a couple of the matters you raised: 1. As per COVID-19 precautions and regulations we were advised to remove all magazines, pens and paper from all rooms as they are identified as items that can transfer contagious viruses, such as COVID-19. This was done in the best interest and safety of our guests. 2. With regards to porters, management do the check-ins and our garden team assist with carrying luggage for our guests and due to the inclement weather, they were wearing gum boots. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment you experienced. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic placing immense pressure on the hospitality industry, we truly hope you enjoyed Angala’s special inclusions like the massage, bountiful snack basket (albeit no rusks, noted for the future), personalized dining experience in your room, wine tasting vouchers (to be used at a later date) and the invigorating facilities such as the heated spa pool, sauna and steam room. Kind Regards, Aubrey Blignaut General Manager

Great setting in the winelands. Decor is a little outdated, but beds were comfortable and the room had all that you needed. No turn down service, which you would expect in this level hotel, even just to turn your lights on to avoid having to return to a room that was pitch dark!
Breakfast was good, however having to decide on dinner in the morning is not ideal. Great charcuterie platters and attentive staff. Lovely views.

Angala surpassed our expectations from its stunning secluded yet central location under the mountains to its beautiful rooms and absolutely delicious food. But what stood out most for me was the friendly staff and their attitude towards making our stay a memorable occasion. They went out of their way after a slight mishap occurred with a birthday cake for me and went above and beyond what would be expected. Another lucky guest got a taste of the cake but to amend for the error that occurred they upgraded us to their best suite free of charge and was very apologetic. Aubrey and his staff truelly represents south african hospitality. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

We recently had an absolutely wonderful 2 night stay at Angala Boutique Hotel. The rooms were luxurious with a separate lounge and cosy fireplace. The facilities and surroundings were of 5 star quality and at the discounted rate an absolute bargain! Surrounded by nature it was a real treat to the soul. The service, food and facilities were great.

We had the best time at Angala. We arrived later on Tuesday evening and the friendly staff checked us in and then offered us the option to order a cheese plate to our room which was so convenient after a long day. Breakfast the next day was yummy and they were great about ordering a shuttle service to the wine tram as we didn’t have a car. The staff were so nice to chat to and the setting was beautiful. Highly recommend staying here!

Our one night stay was much too short! From the welcoming hospitality, friendly, accommodating staff, excellent dinner and breakfast, beautiful gardens and pools and luxurious accommodation, Angala couldn't be faulted. Our luxury cottage was well appointed with beautiful views over a private garden and vines in the distance ( it shares the property with Vrede and Lust wine estate). Its secluded position at the top of a hill makes for a tranquil, most relaxing breakaway from the pressures of everyday life.
