First off, staying here is all about the natural surroundings, which anywhere in the world would struggle to beat. The lodgings are perfectly acceptable self-catering facilities. The decor is perhaps a little run down, and a few more amenities in the kitchen would have been nice (salt, pepper, more pots and pans), but you really will spend most of your... More

We stayed 3 nights in the camp. First of all, the staff have an issue with their own booklet. It states when you want your towels changed put them on the bathroom floor. Which we did, but they put them back up. We noticed this because I cut myself shaving and saw the blood again. And the floors are dirty... More

Stayed in cottage 5 for two nights while walking in Drakensberg. Stayed in two bedroom cottage with bathroom, lounge and kitchen. Notices warned that all food should be kept away from baboons and doors kept locked - when we got up in the morning a baboon was walking past our front door only a few feet away

It was so impressive. We arrived in the dark and had a wounderful surprise when we looked out of the window the next morning. We had a spacious holiday cottage without fancy stuff, but with a unique view! And the cottages are arranged in a way that everyone has a free, direct view on the mountains.

Much as I love Thendele, our unit was overun by ants.. We had to place EVERYTHING edible in the microwave, or the oven, to keep them away. Our cleaner Simon was amazing though. He tried his best and brought us some spray. We did advise reception, but there was nothing they could do over the long weekend. Hopefully the next... More

Simple but comfortable self catering cottages is what you can expect in Thendele. The cottages are clean and well maintained with a well equipped kitchenette. We stayed in the lower camp and loved our views of the amphitheatre and surrounding mountains. Very peaceful and the star gazing was a real treat. If you love to hike or trail walk, this... More

The setting is what it's all about here and lovely walks for the whole family. Hard to beat for its natural appeal and as mountainous as SA accommodation gets. Wonderful views from the chalets. We stayed in the lower camp 4 bed and it is a bit dated, but adequate and while kitchen is cramped, the lounge is ok and... More

We first went to Thendele 50 years ago as young kids. It has always been my favourite part of the Drakensberg and this last visit was no different. The camp has grown somewhat since we were last there and although some of the units have been modernised, the chalets seem a little tired and need some upgrading. Having said that,... More

Fabulous setting. We (3 generations) stayed in the 3 bed lodge which is the premium accommodation. Amazing setup and unique design. Complete privacy can't see or be seen by anyone but the mountains. Loved all the walks. The lodge is dated and lots of little issues. It needs a good cleanup and paint esp the bathrooms. Lights all dim and... More

The view is simply breathtaking, location is in the middle of the high mountains. Very good hiking area. The Chalets are spacious and simple. There is kitchen equipped with kitchenware, cuttlery etc. so self catering is no problem. Service very friendly. All in all a great place in the middle of mountains.
