My gf and her bestie booked here over the winter. I just went along with it and didn’t really pay attention to any reviews until just before we were getting ready for the weekend. What I read had me a little worried, but these fears were unfounded.

We were greeted by Michael, who was very friendly and very thorough with the dos and don’ts. The room was very clean, but a little dated. But if you can deal with pink tile on your bathroom you won’t have an issue. The kitchenette area is adequate, and the fridge/freezer was clean and large enough. No coffee maker, but there’s a Keurig in the lobby. Parking is free and we had no trouble finding a spot. It’s an easy 1 block watch to the beach, or you can instead hang at the pool which is a nice size and the area around it is clean, and plenty of lounges and tables. There are a few gas grills off to the side of you want to do any cooking.

So I’m sorry if some previous visitors had some issues, but we’ll definitely be back!

sorry to see some of the bad reviews prior to writing this, but our last trip to The Crest was an enjoyable stay at The Shalimar! Very clean and maintained with courteous staff. Wonder why it is rated so much lower than Compass where we had awful stay on prior trip. Only complaint I have is that they didn't take credit cards. Thank god I had check book w/ us as I bring limited cash for incidentals and a little night life. Maybe policy has changed since, I hope. Otherwise, an enjoyable stay and I do give it a thumbs-up!

I recently stayed at the Shalimar with my two sons.We were able to check in a little early and I was immediately impressed with the cleanliness and layout of the room.We soon realized that there was a problem with the toilet flushing so we reported it to the front desk and headed to the boardwalk.Upon returning a few hours later,it was 't fixed so we called the desk, maintenance arrived and plunged the toilet.Next day,the same problem.Maintenance came, plunged again and told me it was a "low flow toilet that needed to be flushed a certain way".Since I have one at home,I suggested that maybe something was stuck in there as the toilet wouldn't even flush toilet paper.By then we had begun using the powder room in the hall as our primary bathroom. On our third and last night there, maintenenace once again came to plunge. This time he said that there was something stuck in there, they would be changing the toilet in the morning and I could keep the plunger in the room.Upon checking out the next
morning,I spoke with the manager and relayed our story. He said he was sorry, they were replacing the toilet that day.I said for our entire stay we were without a functioning toilet and again he said"I don't know what to say,I'm sorry".I should not have to pay peak season rates for a motel room with no toilet, nor should I have to plunge a toilet on my vacation.I felt management did not respond in an appropriate manner to remedy the situation and I would not return to the resort because of it.

Response from Shalimar_Staff, Front Office Manager at Shalimar Resort
Responded Oct 11, 2012
We work very hard with our staff to insure that the customer is serviced properly and that the rooms are clean and working properly. We are glad to hear that this customer had good experiences with both the cleanliness and layout of her room. Our toilets are water saving toilets - and do flush properly if used correctly. Many times it is a matter of customers using too much “paper” causing the toilet to clog. Each situation is handled on a case by case basis. Maintenance staff did decide to change the toilet because the problem did persist. We do not keep plungers in any of our rooms, but made an exception when customer requested it. The toilet was changed that morning. We again apologize to this customer for their inconvenience.

We had stayed across the street from the Shalimar and the place looked nice. So we figure we would give it a try. Looks however, were deceiving.

When we arrived we were told that because of Covid 19 our rooms wouldn't be cleaned daily for the safety of the staff, and that we would need to ask for items as we needed them. I don't know if this mandated by New Jersey or not, but it really didn't make much sense and it just seemed to be a way for the place to cut down on room cleaning and save some money.

Our room appeared much smaller then the the photos. Additionally the room was dirty. We found chips in the fold out sofa bed. That obviously hadn't been cleaned. The microwave was broken. They offered to switch rooms for us, but the TV in the room they offered was broken as well. The toilet appeared to be broken, however if you held the handle for about 20 seconds it did work. One of the blinds were broke, but they did fix that. We did spend a lot of time the first day waiting for items to be fixed as we made each new discovery of broken things. In addition one of the barbecues was broke, but they seemed to have fixed that by the time we left.

The pool was large and the water was warm. However after it rained one evening they closed the pool, for safety reasons, when all the other pools at the other hotels remained open.

I would not recommend the Shalimar. If the place was maintained and the rooms actually cleaned this might be a decent place. But it is not worth it right now.

Outdated, dirty, ‘used to be white’ towels and sheets with stains, sticky services, ‘supposed to be clean’ mug with sugar at the bottom. Old rusty microwave and refrigerator. During our stay we couldn’t stay in the motel due to an unexpected fire alarm testing. The whole day fire alarm sirenes went off. We left and asked for a refund. We didn’t get a refund because the fire alarm had to be tested which they couldn’t prevent. Our vacation here was a big disappointment. Won’t go there again!

Our stay at Shalimar Resort began on June 21st with the expectation of enjoying a clean pool area, well-maintained amenities, and pleasant walks on the boardwalk. Unfortunately, it quickly turned into a nightmare.

On the second night, the fridge in our room stopped working. We chalked it up to being in a 2-star establishment. Things took a turn for the worse on the third day when the power went out. It took nearly an hour for the staff to restore it.

When the maintenance man arrived to check the fridge, he claimed it was working fine and blamed us for not knowing to unblock the air vent from the freezer. He suggested we should have inspected this ourselves upon arrival, which is an unreasonable expectation for guests.

Contrary to his explanation, fridges typically have temperature control dials in both the freezer and fridge compartments. When we pointed this out, Roberto, the maintenance man, became argumentative and insisted it was our fault. When I mentioned discussing the issue with management, he dismissively told us not to bother, saying, "Management won't do anything."

On the day of checkout, I spoke with Emma, the manager. She offered no apology and merely explained that the building's old wiring caused the issues, and there was nothing they could do. She also claimed she couldn't control what her staff said, essentially dismissing the entire incident.

Despite the cleanliness of the resort, the overall experience was so poor that a 1-star rating would be generous. I highly advise against staying at Shalimar Resort. The terrible management and lack of accountability made it the worst experience we've ever had. Avoid this place at all costs.

We just got back from a weekend stay at the Shalimar. Although the lobby was very welcoming, the front desk staff were rude, unfriendly, and unwelcoming. In addition, the rooms were dirty, dingy and unacceptable. It was so dirty and dusty that the guest who stayed in the room before us was able to write and leave a message on the artwork above the couch. Speaking of the couch, it was so worn and disgusting that we did not even bother opening it up to use the mattress because it looked gross. The Tv and the blinds in the bedroom were hanging cockeyed. The pool experience was awful. Guests were blasting music from multiple radios around the pool and BBQ area. In addition, people were using large flotation devices which took up a tremendous amount of room in the already extremely crowded pool. Lastly, people were vaping marijuana and drinking from glass bottles.

The Shalimar either doesn't have enough parking spots for all rooms or they allow/ignore multiple cars per room. After telling the front desk we had to park off-site, we then noticed at least 10 more families having the same issue. A Shalimar employee then began placing notices on cars, but no accompanying enforcement. Easy to cross reference license plates with those registered and call the towing company as their policy states will occur.

My family and I booked a vacation here and all ended up with LICE!! The hotel is dirty and management is unhelpful. I am now spending hundreds of dollars on lice treatments for a 10 month old 3 year old and myself who’s pregnant. This is unacceptable save your money and book elsewhere

Emma is probably the worst interaction i have ever had with a manager in my life! She’s like a bratty teen who was placed in a position she has no business to be in. It’s sad because this hotel has Been our annual family vacation destination and unfortunately you couldn’t pay me to come back, not only is she rude and disrespectful, she waited untill i checked out to say she made notes in her computer to not re-book me for next summer.. when i asked her why? And what was wrong, she excused me of smoking in our room, and said that my relatives who didn’t even stay at the hotel, were loud and argumentative when asking to check available dates/rooms for next summer, my aunt’s husband is black and i believe she had a racial issue, also my husband who is Spanish was treated very poorly when also being questioned what is the reason he has a service dog, which is illegal to ask.. also the dog is a 3lb Maltese who is registered as a service dog and Emma said even though service dogs are allowed, you dog isn’t because we don’t have any visible needs to have the dog with us! I was in complete shock! I actually stood in front of her crying, because my husband is very sick with liver disease and when planning our vacation to Wildwood this year, i wasn’t even positive he would be here with us, and to be treated this way is disgusting and horrible.. we had the town hosue which costed about 600$ a night actually more, and I’m so sickened that we wait all year to come on a vacation and spend money at a hotel we look forward too every year to be mistreated, profiled, and humiliated.
