We recently stayed at The Mathis House for one night and greatly enjoyed our stay! Our room was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend staying at there if you are visiting Toms River!.
Wow, what an amazing stay we had at this beautiful bed and breakfast. From our host (Vicki) to our housekeeper (Sherry) to our breakfast server (Ashley) we were treated like royalty. The holiday decor extended into the guestrooms, and we had a Christmas tree in our room! Though we were offered a tour, we were told that we could also explore on our own, which we did, and we found this amazing place to be filled with great history and character. It was truly a wonderful visit and we look forward to returning. Thank you so much to the team at the Mathis House!
Had an excellent 5 day stay here during Thanksgiving week. The whole place is like a fairy tail with loads of unique décor. Vikki was an excellent host and catered to our every need and even had time for a friendly chat when she had time also the chef they have is fantastic so you will not be disappointed with the food. Plenty of facilities in the place in case you need a free tea or coffee at any hour. I would definitely recommend this place if your in Toms River.
This was by far the best tea house I have ever experienced with the nicest, most acommodating staff. I was fortunate to visit and see all three floors the day before my cousin's 50th wedding anniversary party. Beautiful with fabulous antique pieces of furniture and lighting throughout. This tea room is 5+ stars.
We returned this week to Mathis House for an overnight stay. It is a delightful spot and were again pleased with our room, breakfast and the management team. I recommend this B&B if you are in the area!
I was in the area and needed a last minute overnight stay. After looking at all the hotels in the area the Mathis House popped up — and boy was I glad it did! I have stayed in many B&Bs, and this was by far the best. So many Victorian houses have small rooms, creaky floors and an inevitable musty smell — but definitely not the Mathis House. It’s a nice, solid mansion with stunning woodwork, original tile work, beautiful fireplaces and a large wraparound porch. The room was perfect, a huge comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. I stayed in the Victoria room, which has a beautiful tiled shower with five shower heads. There was coffee and snacks in the large foyer outside the bedrooms, a big help since I had missed dinner. In addition to all that, the price included a fantastic breakfast, with homemade baked goods (the scones with clotted cream a big plus) in a cozy tea room. The staff were all friendly, and the other guests were also. Everyone seemed happy to be there. Would love to go back for tea sometime, I can imagine that would be a lot of fun. Now if only I can find a reason to be in that area again! Would be a great place to stay if visiting the shore, or to visit with friends for tea and lunch. Highly recommend!…
This was our second stay at Mathis House and it was another wonder stay. Staff and breakfast was fabulous. It is right in downtown Toms River so we were able to walk to the restaurants. Bed was very comfortable.
Wonderful find in Toms River! Beautiful rooms which are very nicely appointed.attentive and well trained staff. Food: DELICIOUS! My three day stay perfect as I visited family and friends. Will definitely be back!
If one enjoys the Victorian aesthetic, as we do; a high tea in a Victorian B&B is usually quite a pleasant experience. The full tea here was no exception. We began by exploring the building itself. From the attic Xmas shop, to the guest rooms (available for inspection, if unoccupied), to the main floor serving rooms; there was a wealth of architectural detail and accompanying decor to view and enjoy (e.g. the parasols hanging from the ceiling in one of the tea rooms). The staff were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The tea service was quite nicely done. The selection of teas from which to choose was fairly extensive; as was the variety of food provided during the course of the service. We were somewhat surprised (pleasantly) that soup and salad preceeded the sweets and savories traditionally served. The finger sandwiches were excellent, and the desserts were truly indulgent (especially the scones and clotted cream). This may have been the first time we ended a high tea with some items to take-out for later partaking. All and all, this was a wonderful step-back in time; by means of a very satisfying present day experience. …
We have stayed at the Mathis House on several occasions. It's always a delight. Innkeeper Vicki and her staff couldn't be more accommodating! And their breakfast is fabulous! If you enjoy Victorian/Antique with a bit of History thrown in, you definitely should stay at the Mathis House when in the vicinity..
