This is an old-time down-the-shore motel. It has a few updates but you come here for the view from the room and close access to the beach. Request beachfront, 2nd or 3rd floor (1st is partially blocked by dunes). Leave your sliding door open and hear the waves. We spent 4 nights here and the rate in October was less than $150 per night including taxes. And the glorious beach is. right. there. Having once owned beachfront rental property very close by, it is extremely hard to keep a place clean that is constantly hit by wind and water. Sand arrives by osmosis. Grit gets ground in. We've never used the Drifting Sands during high summer season, but it must be near impossible to keep clean and even harder with high turnover. I agree with the reviewer that suggested getting rid of the rugs on the floors - there are many materials that are really easy to clean and look good. Just put a couple of throw rugs next to the bed that can be thrown into the laundry. At least use the slow season to do really deep cleaning and maintenance. In the meantime, bring slippers or flip flops to wear on the rugs. Personally I wouldn't stay here with children and expect it to be spotless. If spotless is what you want, find a new rental place that's not beachfront or use the brand new hotel a couple of blocks away with no view and hard to walk anywhere that is at least double the price. We enjoy Drifting Sands because it is so close to the causeway - you arrive on the island and you're right there. It is easy to walk in both directions for restaurants and shopping, and 7-11 is right there for 24/7 coffee and buttered rolls. The little Maristella's luncheon is right there too with even better coffee and food. Driving out a little further gets you to Barnegat or Holgate for beautiful walks. Make sure you get up to see the sunrise - if you're beachfront, you can watch from your balcony or walk to the beach. The current touchless check-in and -out worked well. There was no housekeeping in the room by agreement because of the pandemic. We had plenty of towels and could have requested fresh towels or sheets if we wanted (besides, who cleans their sheets every day at home?). Will be back!

First i have to start off with this is a SHORE rental not the W so your expectations should not be so high! we know they have a lot of wear and tear. that being said we had oceanfront and it was wonderful, loved the view and the balcony seating. the room was a room... it was clean and a little dated BUT that is what you should expect! period! i for one would get rid of rugs, it should never be in a shore rental due to salt air and sand and you cant clean that out of rugs, go with tile! it had all fridge, microwave and TV.. all good

I have been staying at this hotel for eighteen years and it’s always been lovely. Over the last few years it has apparently been under new ownership. The hotel has always been a little musty and outdated which weren’t terrible for being right on the beach. This year with COVID I expected the utmost care would be given to cleanliness. The general surfaces of the room seemed clean and appeared to have recently wiped. I never go shoeless or without at least socks in a hotel room and this practice while traveling with a toddler is difficult to say the least. We don’t wear shoes in our home so as to keep things more sanitary and clean. We had been in the room for under two hours wearing socks on the linoleum floors when I noticed the bottoms of my son’s grey socks (ours were black colored) I was horrified. It seems the floors are not being cleaned at all. How else can you explain the above photo? Because I was so grossed out I started paying attention to the floors and corners and places dirt might hide and decided we wouldn’t be staying again. They didn’t have enough supplies in the rooms and the accommodations need a thorough deep cleaning. I understand times are tough with COVID and good help is hard to find but when sneezing or coughing eventually most droplets fall to the floor meaning that surface is equally important to sanitize or clean as high touch areas. This floor looked as if it had not been cleaned in weeks or months. I carried the socks with me to show them at checkout to speak to them privately but since they weren’t enforcing their “one guest at a time in checkout area” I was unable to speak to them. My encounters with the front desk otherwise on this trip had felt forced and insincere so I was sure I would encounter more of the same anyway. I hate leaving bad reviews but when your health is at stake it’s important to protect others when you can.

Stayed there for Labor Day weekend! They put us in the oldest building. Our room was filthy. The best part was you can’t get a hold of hotel personnel Unless you call a number with your cell phone. (No phone or clock in rooms) Then you have to leave a message and hope they call you back. (NEVER DID) we never took our shoes off. No towel bars. Head board coming off wall, cove spread on bed dirty...ect. So not worth the price!!!!! Furniture looks like it was taken off street, peeling and not wiped at all. BEWARE!!!!! Horrible experience!!!!

Very disappointed with this place on so many levels. The rooms were so dirty, there was still soap from the last people who stayed there in the shower. Was cookies and sand all over the floor, looked like cleaning lady didn’t even bother herself to try and clean it. Staff were not friendly, they don’t have 24 hour front desk so to get something out of hours is very hard. Have to call for clean towels but when you can’t get in touch with staff it’s hard to get this. When I was checking out I informed the lady at the front desk of this and she didn’t seem to care didn’t say sorry or feel bad we didn’t have a good stay. Don’t see any perks to this hotel so I would avoid at all costs.
