Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake is often commended for its accommodating staff and the array of amenities available, despite some noted need for pool maintenance and updates to furnishings. The hotel is well-positioned for guests keen on exploring nearby attractions and enjoying nature. While the cleanliness of the common areas receives positive mentions, there are concerns regarding room upkeep and general tidiness. Opinions on value are mixed; some guests find it affordable, others question its worth. Additionally, the atmosphere is described as cozy, yet it may benefit from some freshening up.

Each year we return to Chestnut Lake and are greeted by great surprises. Over the last few years there has been more sewer sites, new electric, pool resurfaced, old trailers cleaned up and less drunken rowdiness. Believe it or not LESS bugs!!
It has turned into a great place for family vacations.
We enjoy our stay there each year and look forward to our arrival.

We've stayed a few weeks at Chestnut Lake every year for the past 5 and there has been some positives. The laundry room, pool area, game room are clean but the furniture (pool table, poker table) are very worn. This campground uses potholes instead of speed bumps to keep the traffic slow. The individual sites are not level so prepare to have wheels off the ground. During our 3 weeks there was no grass cutting or trimming around our site. This year there were 4 or 5 people working the front desk so that service was improved.

The campground overall was average. The sites were maintained well. The bathrooms were clean, but ran out of soap on 2 occasions. The pool area needs to be better maintained. The pool filter was off in the afternoon allowing so much debris that I got the skimmer and cleaned the surface. Landscaping could be better, and I notified staff of a loose step block which was still loose 2 days later. The geese are a huge problem. They leave droppings all over the sites and roads, which gets tracked in your unit if you forget to leave your shoes outside. Until they are somehow removed from most areas I won't return.

They need to pave the entry apron so that when you pull in off Pomona Road your rig doesn't break from it's tow vehicle. Also there's a bad hole in the road that you MUST drive into in order to punch code into the entry gate. I understand that having pot holes throughout the camp is their way of insuring that campers drive slowly - but the entry just gets us off on the wrong foot.

Bring your own weed wacker. In the 3 weeks we stayed here they mowed the weeds once and stayed 3-4 feet from our rig.

We were here during June and there were lots of flying, stinging bugs at that time. I believe the pests like the "lake" the campground adjoins. Most people start fires, or just start "smoke" to shoo away the pests. We stayed inside.

We were here during COVID shut downs and we don't blame the campground for the closed down pool or game room.

Look. If you're a Thousand Trails member you've already paid for your stay. In that way this is a good value. But if you had to pay by the night, or week - I'd keep looking.

We had a very relaxing time. The staff, including the guests next to us, were very friendly and helpful. The sites were adequate and the water, sewer, and electric hookups were easy to use, close to the site, and marked very clearly.

I have camped at several campgrounds in several states. This place is the worse campground I have ever stayed in. Grass not cut junk and garbage in seasonal sites. It’s obvious that seasonal campers have given up and pulled out leaving their junk behind. The pull through sites were overgrown in a field with no shade. There are so many other things wrong I could go on for several paragraphs more. The pool closed without any notice. We tried to sign up with the manager when we found out we had to sign up to swim and he refused to reopen the pool even though he lives right here in a camper. The manager who is also the maintenance man refused to call his boss when we asked. He was ignorant and disrespectful. This place is not going to last long in this condition with this staff and management. I am a Thousand Trails member and doubt I will renew in November just based on this experience alone.

Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time at this dump. The staff are the rudest employees that I have ever experienced while camping. Our site was overgrown, we asked 2 different employees if they could cut the grass. The first one said no, he was the only employee that handles maintenance and he didn’t have enough time. The 2nd one laughed at me and drove away on the golf cart. The mini golf looks like it’s never been maintained. There were NO activities, I understand stated COVID issue but we were at 3-4 other campgrounds in this timeframe that we’re able to come up with some ideas, music? A band? Bingo? There was a camper with graffiti on it 5/6 sites from the office/store. There’s no way they didn’t see it. So much for Thousand Trails guidelines??? The store hours are 9-4. If you don’t have your questions answered, checked in, gotten your 3 pieces of firewood for $7, or received ANY paperwork you’re out if luck. This was not our campground of choice but because Sea Pines had not water or electric, Thousand Trails recommended Chestnut Lake, J wish I would have taken those negative reviews seriously. I thought maybe they were exaggerated, they weren’t. The positive reviews had to be fake.

Chestnut Lake RV Park was nice and clean. Sarah P greeted us when we arrived and made us feel welcome and like family. Our site was full service with water sewer an FREE cable which was unexpected since othe places always charged for cable. The rest rooms were clean and seemed to regularly kept up. The pool was immaculate and accessible to our site easily. Whe we had any questions and went to the office Sarah was there everyday with a warm smile and wonderful welcome and ready to help us with what ever we needed. We also had some interaction with another staff person Guy who helped us in detail about suggestions on questions I had and directions on where to get supplies that we needed. Sarah was so concerned and made sure our stay was wonderful. With out guy we would have been searching all over for things we needed that would have been difficult to find. All and all I think anyone that wants a small friendly place to stay while RVing on the Jersey Shore traveling distance to Atlantc City, Philadelphia or NYC should definitely choose Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake RV Resort.

This place is a joke. Their email said call prior to arriving. When I called, they said I didn't need to call. Ok get you act together. After we arrived, one lady was on the phone and the rest were ignoring me eating ice cream sandwiches. After I finally was acknowledged, the lady told me to call when we picked out a site to avoid coming back to the office. When I called they told me to not call but bring a paper back. I brought the paper back and they said I could have called!!!! No one knows what is going on. They said a honey pot would come around and no need to call. Well guess what? You need to call to get on the list. No communication between the workers. There was a bag of dog crap on our site pad too when we arrived. Nice welcome. No control of how many people are in the pool during COVID like they are supposed to have. The pool was packed. They didn't keep a stash of change for the laundry or have a change machine. On our last day, we signed up for a 9am pool time and even called at 830 to make sure it was ok to show up since it rained the night before. We got kicked out because they were cleaning it until 10am. Apparently the cleaning guy was late to arrive at work. Wouldn't even let us sit in the shaded area while I waited for my laundry. Ridiculous and rude!! All the full hook up sites are crammed together in the center with no shade. Clown show. Run down park. Never coming back here.

Not enough bathrooms, pool water was dirty, unregistered guests overcrowding the limited amenities. But the staff friendly and welcoming. Entrance gate was broken so no control of who entered the campground so safety is not the highest priority.

Answer from Paul T
It depends on the site. There are some sites that are farther than others from the restrooms, but none are more than a five minute slow walk.
