I was so saddened and frustrated to hear that my blind friends stayed overnight with their seeing eye dogs and received a "friendly" phone call the next day to be told they would be charged an extra cleaning fee. The check in process was awful, they already felt that they were not wanted there when they heard about the seeing eye dogs. My friends had to switch rooms, which they didn't mind but yet they are clearly being penalized for having brought their necessary seeing eye dog. This is not okay, they are not pets, they are seeing guide dogs that provide a service to their blind owners. When my friend brought up this point, the guy on the phone responded by stating "I know about the ADA", and how the room would need to be "brought to life" after the one night that they spent there and proceeded to tell him that it's a friendly phone call and hung up. YOU GUYS CLEARLY HAVE NO RESPECT AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR GUESTS. DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THESE PEOPLE. THERE ARE MANY OTHER BAD REVIEWS FOR A REASON.

My husband and I stayed here in the off-season for 1 night. We had the King Room with Whirlpool. Often the tubs are way too gross to even consider using, but this one was Spotless and HUGE. Used the tub 3 times in a 1 night stay. Room was small but immaculately clean. Perfect for a couple looking to have a nice night away. Wouldn't bring kids here based on the rules and reviews I read below.

WARMEST, NICEST PEOPLE & BEST POINT PLEASANT STAY: My wife and I having been getting-away to PP for years, whenever we could. We would drive back from July 4th. Fireworks very late,with Dauntless cruise, or stay at a pricey B&B. We were so truly amazed at how remarkably clean The Surfside Motel was (every single aspect showed infinite dedication toward keeping this Point Pleasant gem, as polished, sanitary, and welcoming as humanly possible,) that not only did we cherish our week long stay during the July 4th Holiday, we quickly booked another return week, for my wife’s Birthday, the 3rd week of August! We are very concerned about only vacationing at the cleanest possible places, to the point where my wife makes me overpack and include all our own cotton linens and pillows. At Surfside, it proved really unnecessary. Everything was immaculate beyond words, and not just the rooms, but the same dedication to detail extended to the crystal clean, heated Pool, and the beautiful surrounding grounds and parking lot. Honestly, after such a difficult Covid-19 related year (plus) and recent unrelated hospital stay, I started-out just a tiny bit concerned with the word “motel.” As it turned-out, this was much, much more like a boutique Inn, fussed-over by Richard, the Manager, his family, and outstanding (family-like) staff! Words like “gracious hospitality” and “dedicated service” do not even begin to cover what we joyfully experienced during BOTH our wonderful stays this summer! Rich, his friendly family, and devoted staff ALL made us feel so very welcome and could not do enough to optimize our stay and accommodate our every request or need. Can you tell? We fell in LOVE with this great place and the great people that maintain it! Yes, there are rules, as mentioned by some other reviewers. My wife and I have held down 4 jobs at one time, in the past, all requiring a certain degree of rules or regulations in order to assure positive outcomes for all members of the public and optimized management of logistics. We have traveled to many places and under a myriad of conditions. Do you know what we have generally discovered about most people that wax on about “....all the restrictive rules?” We have come to realize that many of said people really mean, “let us have our own version of party-hearty fun, by intrusively trampling on the rights, safety, health, and enjoyment of all the other guests!” Nobody has the personal liberty to potentially cause harm or heartache to others! As I mentioned, we were able to feel truly safe, secure, and cared-for, because there were necessary rules in place that ALL assured the quiet and complete enjoyment of most ALL the grateful guests, and Rich and his dedicated staff, devoted themselves 24/7 to again ensuring consideration to EVERYBODY spending money to stay at Surfside. No matter when we returned for the night, from the many fine places to dine, nor headed-out early to enjoy a wonderful breakfast out at an equal numbers of nearby establishments, we would almost always either see Rich, his family, or staff, working so hard to maintain some aspect of the Surfside! In the end, they were far from being just about the needed rules. They were all so dedicated to helping us with whatever we needed, or advising us on all the helpful details with Point Pleasant vacation destinations and area establishments. It literally breaks our heart, to see (mainly) one single group, that was looking to “barrel-into” the motel, disregard the safety and needs of the guest already present, create disorderly disruption, disregard the safety of their very own children, and loudly party-on, smoke and rudely engage the sweet staff, to previously “shotgun” negative reviews, under different names, online, in a disheartening attempt to hurt this outstanding business! It matters little, in the end, as ALL those that we congenially interacted with, during BOTH our stays this summer, were truly (also) in love with the Surfside and their great hospitality! In fact, we felt like such “newbies,” as most of those we conversed with, had been brining their families for many years and couldn’t wait (like us) to return again, as soon as they could! It is offensive that they online inaccurately disparage with a word like “racist” when we constantly witnessed them treating ALL the guests, regardless of race or national origin/cultural heritage, with the same high degree of kindness and congeniality that they showed us! They just ask that all their guest act responsibly and I with empathy for all! If you want a “party cave” PLEASE, go elsewhere! The fact that they take seriously the noise, smoking, parking, pool, age, and other rules, means our stay was made exponentially better! I could likewise sleep much more soundly, knowing that they take due diligence in confirming the identity of those staying there. Even as we enjoyed Point Pleasant via a personal penguin encounter at the aquarium, or a lovely breakfast at I’m a Local cafe, or a tasty dinner at The Poached Pear, Atlantic Fishery, or Daniels, or took our firework cruise onboard Capt Bill’s Dauntless, EVERYBODY knew of Rich and The Surfside as the cleanest and BEST motel/hotel in town! A reputation both deserved and duly quite earned over time!

RACIST OWNERS RICHARD AND KIM!!!! DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME BOOKING! Seemed like a decent place to book, which ended up being the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER at Point Pleasant! I went to check into the hotel and was told they need the IDs for anyone staying there. I told my fiancé and he came in and gave his ID so they could make a copy. While checking in they asked a few times why we came to Point Pleasant, I said for vacation?? I just thought this was weird. The owner Richard was inside and from that point on you could tell he didn’t want us to stay there. We received a long list of things we couldn’t do, which is literally everythinggg, kids can’t ride there bikes or play loud and no music at all or any visitors, and the list goes on and on. Once we got to our car, we wanted to park it closer to the room, the owner followed us out to our car. He knocked on the window and started asking if following these rules would be a problem and that his “livelihood “ is at stake. He specifically said if we were to smoke to go on the street, that there was no smoking on the whole premises. I said no problem at all, we were not smoking or showing any signs that we were smokers!! This was an assumption he was making . There was no doubt after looking around we stuck out in this hotel . After telling the owner Richard that there wasn’t a problem , he said “ I just want you goys to check out “ , this was after we just paid the remaining balance for the hotel. Our money wasn’t refunded immediately and we NOW HAVE NO HOTEL TO STAY at for the weekend. After reading through these other reviews I really can’t believe the owner treats people like this and kicks them out with no remorse.

This hotel was amazing!! Lots of little kids with families tho. Was kind of unexpected but totally amazing hotel to stay at, 10/10 would recommend… 100% clean , can’t say anything negative about this hotel… very very upkept! Pool is nice too!! Rooms are spacious .

spent many years at point pleasant, for 17 years stayed at mariners cove. haven't been to point pleasant for 12 years, so wanting to start our annual family vacation again we stayed at surfside. booked in april of this year, for our mid august trip. a few days before our trip i read a very negative recent review and was very worried. well, the rooms were spotless, the grounds immaculate!! the staff extremely friendly!!!!! the owner would wave hello every time he saw me, was very polite. location was perfect,( quiet area of the beach near the inlet) 3 blocks from the beach. very nice pool. looking forward to next year !!!!

BEWARE! HARASSED BY OWNER! Our family was looking forward to our first vacation to the ocean in over a decade. We worked hard, saved our money, so that we could treat our six children to a great vaca! I took time to research motels, and was worried about cleanliness and loud parties (as my children are young). The reviews (that I read) SEEMED solid. Clean and “family friendly”. Upon arrival we immediately had issues. Richard, the motel owner, stopped us on at least 3 separate occasions demanding we…not allow the children to ride their scooters on the side walk, not to bounce a ball, and not to play music on our phones. Literally our first night, I got zero sleep bc I was SO ANXIOUS about this creep. My gut was spot on. The very next morning, he knocked on our door, and IN FRONT of my young children…said… “Get out! This is MY property and your family is ruining my livelihood.” I asked what his exact reasoning was for causing such a scene? His reply was “I don’t have to give you a reason. Leave now.” I wanted to cry. What were we supposed to do? I had all these kids expecting me to take them to the beach shortly, and now I was left scrambling on where to go! DO NOT BOOK HERE! I felt soooo fooled by not reading closer at the reviews. If you scroll down, you’ll see almost 14 other nearly identical reviews from families who were also harassed and kicked out. We’ve contacted a lawyer for harassment and discrimination, and The Better Business Bureau. Richard should be NOT be allowed to run a business where he gets away with harassment and discrimination. Please, heed my warning and stay away or, REPORT him.

Staff at the hotel are so friendly. Check in was a breeze. The property is immaculately kept. My husband and I had a fabulous time. We were celebrating his birthday. The room is beyond clean and comfortable. We had the king whirlpool room. Relaxing in the tub was so romantic with the provided bubble bath. We walked to breakfast at this cute cafe 5 mins down the road and came back for a dip in the pool before we checked out. Excellent trip!

Owner would not let a 1 year old, 4 year old, and 6 year old swim in the EMPTY pool with their cousins, even after the father offered to pay for a guest/day pass and also offered to rent a room for the night. Horrible service. Beware of renting a room here. The owner is unreasonable and rude.
