Location is great. Run down and dirty hotel. Our room was not cleaned during the entire stay even though we explicit asked for it. Indifferent staff, busy chit-chatting with each other. Reception did not pick up the phone - and when they did, they hung up quite rudely.

This was absolutely the worst stay I have ever had at a hotel. I stayed here after a Rutgers visit and I have nothing nice to say about this hotel. First, there is no on site parking. They do not validate parking in the garage that they recommend. Second, there was a party going on in the room next door. I'm not typically one to complain but it was very clear that there was a party going on next door to our room. There was very loud music, yelling, and people constantly in and out. There were FOUR noise complaints from various people at the hotel. After the FOURTH time that security was called up to the room at 12:45am when people are now banging on my door, I went to the front desk to see why nothing was happening. The concierge said to me that "this is behavior you need to expect on the weekend". The security guard did absolutely nothing. After attitude from the front desk for wanting to SLEEP at 1am, they finally moved our room to one that had a broken TV and broken dresser. Do yourself a favor and book at a hotel FAR from this one.

The location of the Heldrich is perfect; right in the middle of the City. Across from two major theaters, blocks from J&J, RWJUH, Rutgers, AMTRAK/NJ Transit. The building has an attractive facade, nice fountain plaza out front, decent bar, comfortable public areas. The rooms. The bathroom likely was nice - a B+ - when the hotel was new. But the build quality was substandard. Wallpaper peeling, paint bubbling, the shower head pipe not secured to the wall with no sconce. Not terrible but just kind of shabby. The bedroom area is actually very nice; large wardrobe/tv center, a medium sized desk. Bed is comfortable. Overall, this place could be a lot more than it is. If the City is hoping attract overnight theater adventurers, hotel management should hire competent staff to reno those bathrooms!

What an awful hotel. First, it is hard to reach with all the one-way streets. You can’t park on-site, rather you need to drive around the block to a free standing gararge that is a house of horrors. No valet parking at hotel. Made my reservation by phone and they had no record. The guy next to me also had a missing reservation. Nasty front desk people. No thank you’s or have a nice stay. The room was standard. Shower did not work and a loose outlet kept shorting out. Very noisy in the hallways. Nice bar and good service there. Breakfast expensive and terrible. Avoid this hotel from hell.
