My son suggested that I stay here when I was in town for a Rutgers football game. It is close to a lot of restaurants within walking distance. My room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly.

Hotel's Favorite
A very convenient location for business in the New Brunswick area. Friendly staff and well priced. The hotel is within walking distance of several local restaurants and local entertainment. Easy to get to. Valet parking is available at a reasonable price. An excellent value.

Very comfortable rooms. Cordial and responsive staff. All problems were handled immediately and efficiently. The location was perfect for exploring the Rutgers campus and New Brunswick. Convenient to several fine restaurants.

I reserved a corner Suiteat the heldridge several months ago. I was told via the reservation is that my specialty room which was a corner Suite would be available because the one that I picked was not reserved the reservation is went on to tell me that that was your favorite room at the hotel please note that once I reserved via a regular reservation is I spoke to the hotel staff who told me this I also requested that my friend have the adjoining room which why I was also assured that she would also have. Originally she asked for a king room however the adjoining room would be a double and we were okay with that because the area in which the corner Suite is located was very private. When I arrive at the hotel I was told that my corner Suite would not be available and the adjoining room would not be available therefore we had a corner Suite without an adjoining room and the room next to us hosted other people who were not part of my party. This cause a problem two times in the night because of our ladies being too loud for the people next to us however I didn't ask for the private area for me to celebrate my 46th birthday. I love the hotel but I would like it even better if they wouldn't say after the fact that it's just a request and Nix what was told to their client. I also asked for my to be complimentary due to the issue it was told very firmly that they can't do this. The hotel is not flexible and that is my main problem with it.

I would give another star if the hotel upgraded their gym - it is clearly an ‘afterthought’. People do work out at conferences . Overall a good stay. Attended a business conference. The facilities were good. We had a good dinner one night at the conference. Breakfast was ok - omelets were made fresh which is always a nice touch. Premade stuff was meh - dry eggs, few whole grain options. Lunch at conference was not very good - dry chicken, tacos and pizza could use an upgrade. Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, great water pressure in shower (i like a good shower). Rooms can use some updating - wall paper is peeling, light fixtures in bathroom were crooked. Rooms were comfortable and quiet though. Had coffee machines in room (keurig style). Have a bar which was good. Staff were nice enough. Can self park a block away or had valet for a few dollars more. Location was nice as far as ability to walk to restaurants, bars, drug store etc. interesting area - college town.

Chose the hotel due to proximity to Rutgers campus and athletics complex. Good: 5 minute drive to Rutgers campus; functional valet parking, clean bed linens, warm greeting upon check-in. Not: the property is dated and grubby throughout (scuffed paint, peeling wall paper, dirty hallway carpets), very limited and dark fitness area, slow shower drain (which, yuck). There was a buffet breakfast available both Sat and Sun AM ($32), which we didn’t try. A shout out to the evening front desk manager (whose name I neglected to get) for allowing us to switch rooms when our neighbors decided to throw a birthday party with 10+ people. Really appreciated it.

Overall, it was a high quality stay, just not so great it felt worth the high price tag. I'll also say that I was there during Rutgers Homecoming weekend, so the prices may have been higher than average. Here are my positives and negatives: Positives: +: The front desk staff were very pleasant and it seemed like there were enough staff members to not form large lines of guests. I appreciated getting early check-in. +: The room felt very clean, new furniture and finishes. +: There is a fitness center. But it is a bit small gym for the size of the hotel and the price point/fanciness of the hotel. There were two treadmills and some free weights, and it felt rather cramped to share with other guests. +: The hotel location is very walkable to the theater, good restaurants, and the Amtrak/NJ Transit train station. And it was very convenient to get a rideshare as well. Negatives: -: There is an indoor pool, but it's only about 10 yards long, so only enough to splash around with a little kid. -: There is not much sound insulation between rooms. The guests next door to me were a bit rowdy and I had to turn my white noise maker up quite high to drown them out. -: There is no gauzy layer of curtain. So your options are either to blackout all of the light or to give full view to the building across the street.

I am at the hotel for a 3 day work meeting. The hotel location is great. Outside of the convenience of the location, I would not recommend this hotel. It is VERY dated. When I came back from dinner, I found that the bathroom ceiling started to crumble into the tub. When I asked to have my room changed, I was told that they’re sold out and that they can send the engineer to the room. It’s been close to an hour and no one has come to check on it. I’m not sure what the condition of other local hotels are, but I would try them first before coming here again.

I'm not sure how Priceline considers this a 4 Star property - while the location is decent, the rooms and hallways are in desparate need of an upgrade, the restuarant menu is limited and the food is average at best. Opening the door was a chore, both entering (I often had to insert the key card several times before it would take) and exiting (very heavy door which stuck occasionally). The worst part is their parking system - what 4 star hotel has their valet close at 10 pm? It was very inconvenient to have wait until 7 am to get the car or be sure you were back by 10 to get the car parked. I come down to New Brunswick 8-10 times a year - the Heldrich will be my last resort.
