PROS: Stayed mid- week in room 304. Staff very very pleasant. Great chatting with some of them. Lobby is cozy with chairs and fireplace. Room is good size. Very clean. Comfortable bed and pillow.

CONS: No USB charging ports, very dim lighting, room doors close hard...you hear every door all around you, bar and restaurant very pricey

Stayed there for a night for the first time and couldn't have had a better experience. Liz at the front desk accommodated me with an early check in over the phone, knew exactly who I was when I arrived and delivered with a Noon check-in. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and the restaurant was really good. Best best to stay in Freehold.

While the hotel is decorated nicely and clean, if you want a quiet and peaceful nights sleep o do not recommend this hotel, especially on a Friday and weekends. We were in room 207 and other family members were also on the second floor. There were 2 parties going on including a sweet sixteen and the musics was pounding in our room till 11pm. The receptionist told us it would be over at 9:30pm and that our room was not over the event, but it was. At 10:30 I went down again and was told they could put me in another room but it would be $585 ((ours was $200). The second floor has stairs from the lobby that are open and the noise from the bar area located in the lobby also was so loud you could here the conversations. There is also a poison in the lobby and when anyone tried to play it, it sounded as if it was outside our door. The hotels music did not stop till 1am. The couple in the room next to us could also be heard as they came into their room at 12:45am. It was finally quiet until 4:45am when the cleaning staff began using their commercial vacuum in the lobby waking everyone in our room including my 3yo granddaughter as well as the other family members we had staying in other rooms. Have stayed at many, many hotels in my life but this was one of the least peaceful and restful. Maybe the 3rd floor is better, maybe not, but definitely do not stay here on a weekend on the second floor.

My experience at this hotel was horrible and would not recommend their accommodations if you are looking for a hotel in the Freehold area. We booked our room online and it was supposed to be a King size bed and it was not, very disappointing. Secondly the power went out at the hotel Sunday 4/23 which was out of their control but was not handled with the customers safety in mind. We had to walk down 3 flights of stairs with luggage and was never asked by employees if we needed any help. Lighting did not exist on the stairwell from floors 3 down to 2. We manage to get down to the first floor and find employees sitting on the couch and no one moved or asked if we needed anything. The icing on the cake was the belongings that were accidentally left in our room due to leaving in darkness were conveniently never found. I called the hotel on Sunday afternoon and was told I would receive a call from the hotel manager and never did. I made a phone call 3 days later to finally get a return phone call from the hotel manager. The hotel manager was not understanding or helpful with the issues we had. This was a horrible experience!!

A real pity that reception staff did not mention on check in that we had to ask for our room to be cleaned each day. This was "because of Covid" - more likely to save money on housekeeping. Surely they should be INCREASING cleaning due to Covid?

Won't stay there again!!!

I was supposed to have a baby shower at this venue in April 2019, and unfortunately it was unable to come to fruition due to the pandemic. I had already previously paid not only the $500 deposit fee, but also the remaining balance of the event. Fast forward to November, I contacted the banquet sales manager, Jim Z, about the refund of the $500 deposit as restaurant credit, and the remained money to be credited back to my credit card. Jim Z stated he was unable to get a hold of the owner of the restaurant, and we spoke a total of three times over a three week period with all failed attempts. Despite the fact that the event never took place, and the American Hotel never incurred any fees, the owner still evades phone calls and contact and I was never refunded the money I am owed. This is a despicable way to conduct business and I hope that this review can save others from being taken advantage of.

Service outside was incredibly slow. Food was great! Had the All American Burger and started with the Ahi Tuna Tartare…so good!! I would’ve preferred different wontons- these were over fried. Also, my Raspberry Martini was strong but not very flavorful.

We drove 23 hours in one day, and called the hotel to alert them that we would be checking in later than expected. Absolutely no problem. Our rooms did not have 2 beds, but I guess the mix-up was who we booked through. It was family, so we just shared since the hotel was full. They only have 20 rooms. It used to be a stage stop, but everything has been nicely redone. The rooms had everything we needed. The walk-in shower in room 310 was very large. Loved the brick wall.

There were a lot of events on the weekend and everything looked beautiful.

The hotel location is fantastic. We came for a 100th birthday party and prices at the shore were crazy. I stumbled upon The American Hotel and am so happy I did. It is in a little downtown area with many restaurants, ice cream shops, etc. And, it was only 25 minutes to the party.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is friendly and comfortable and quaint.

Recently attended an evening show that was held at the American Hotel. They applied an automatic 20% tip to the bill for food service during the event. We found the service to be extremely lacking from start to finish and were ignored for the most part throughout the entire event.
