When I visited Big Timber Lake it was nothing but a fun time and the atmosphere was very friendly. The women in the office are very helpful. The young lady named Ali went above and beyond to help me find everything I needed and answered all the questions I had. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone!

What a great place to spend quality time outdoors! Plenty of open space and recreation areas. This year with COVID there were changes but the staff at Big Timber Lake did a tremendous job despite the challenges! Kudos to Sherry and Aly in the office who handled things with a can do attitude and a smile, Liam at the lake who was always kind to the kids. The maintenance staff worked hard to keep things tidy and the night security guys, Dennis and Dan ran a tight ship with no shenanigans and made this year fantastic! We can hardly wait until next year!

Prices are out ravenous. All the Sun Resorts now have a separate resort fee plus the cost of a daily fee. Camping never used to be this way. Rip off. The claim it's for your ammentitues. When the campgrounds were privately owned. There was no such thing. Corporate owned campinggrounds are popping up all over with these fees. What a racket. Nickel and dime you to death.

We came here with our toddler and newborn and my husband and I . Booked the trip 3-4 months in advanced as a nice first family get away to relax and spend time together. We have family that have a seasonal spot and we’re looking forward to the trip. I was greatly disappointed. There was no mention that the living area was in this condition and when my family and myself brought it up to the staff they continued to say they couldn’t do anything about it cause we already had a good rate due to our family having a permanent spot at the campground. They just stared and didn’t offer to
Move our cabin or any resolution. The person that I would need to speak to was “off” or “in a meeting” the whole trip. Mind you there were plenty of other open cabins on our street and the next street. I wasn’t asking for money. I was asking for an alternative to having my children and myself essentially in these conditions during our vacation. My first night after seeing this all I wanted to do was go home. Would have been better off and saved 700$. We knew during the trip since it was off season we wouldn’t get to use most amenities like the pool or lake or other things offered and we’re looking forward for a nice cabin and couldn’t even get that. I would save your money or find another spot to camp if you don’t already have your own trailer where you can be sure of the conditions.

We rented one of the trailers for a long weekend. The campground was very nice and had a nice pool and playgrounds. We did not need to utilize the bathhouses, as we rented a trailer. The trailer was very nice and clean. The only down side was the mattress in the master bed was uncomfortable. It was very bouncy and any movement was felt by my husband and vice versa. By the 3rd night my back was in need of a nice sturdy mattress. We did need to provide our own linens and towels, but the kitchen was nicely equipped.

The GM (Maria) was very unprofessional and had horrible customer service. My whole family has been going to BTL for over 50 years and we've had a great relationship with the previous owners, unfortunately though the campground was recenty sold to a corporation where apparently they don't care about all their customers, especially loyal ones. They allow their managers to kick a pregnant women and her family out over basically whatever they want. I have had no other complaints in my 30 plus years of staying there. But apparently one morning of reprimandingreprimand ing my teenage cousin for smoking a cigarette is reason enough to kick our entire family out, including my 2 young children (4 & 7) who were sleeping at the time (so obviously they didn't hear anything) causing us to have to drive 6 hours back home, cutting their ONLY vacation short as well, not to mention we'll have to drive back a few days later to attend my grandmother's funeral who passed away of lung cancer while we were there (another reason I was stressed and upset about the smoking). There was no other place for our family to stay concidering most of my family lives out of state and my grandfather that does live by are already housing some of my older family members.

I understand if I was being too loud (which let's be honest, it's a campground literally feet away from your neighbors, so it's not too hard to be overheard. I can even hear their tv from my porch), but not to be given a warning or no real explanation of why such a drastic PUNISHMENT seems extremely harsh and unreasonable to me, especially under the circumstances. The reason I was given was because I was swearing. However, all throughout my stay concidering they allow drinking anywhere thoughout the campground I heard my fair share of curse words being used. Also this "rule" is not stated anywhere in their policies or posted anywhere in the campground, so how or WHY would I ever think this would get us thrown out. I understand it is disrespectful around others, but I was in the privacy of my own trailer. The (nosey) lady that complained just so happen to be right outside our windows "packing up her car". Being under a lot of stress I did not realize she was there until I was told by my cousin after the fact, and I definitely didn't realize how loud I was supposedly being (but like I mentioned it did not wake up my husband or children plus it physically hurts to yell too loud while being pregnant). While I tried to speak to the manager she refused to hear my explanation and would not take anything I was saying into consideration, instead was very rude and cold towards me. Her office door was shut in my face twice and I was referred to as "adult" after I asked her to have a serious adult conversation with me. Extremely unprofessional on her part. I just don't think a buisness that apparently claims customer service is on the top of their priorities should be treating people with such disrespect and lack of empathy. Also, the rules should be clearly written down SOMEWHERE, with the APPROPRIATE disciplinary action and a clear understanding of what will get you ban from the campground.

I am really disappointed in the direction BTL has been headed. They claim to be a family resort but it definitely doesn't have the warm friendly atmosphere it use to. Everyone use to know everyone by first name, now you get treated as someone who doesn't even matter or even have feelings for that matter. I know my grandparents who own the trailer have really been concidering leaving BTL for the past couple years. I use to ask them not to because it was the only vacation our family could afford, but I'm not sure it's worth it now, especially if we're not allowed back over something so minut as repermanding your own family member in the privacy of your own "home". I also can't help but wonder if I had been older if I would have been treated so unfairly. I couldn't imagine anyone speaking to my parents or grandparents that way and especially not kicking them out for using certain words.

I would not recommend staying here unless you like to be treated poorly and not given a fair treatment. Also if you like to worry about being kicked out over whatever they feel like or just over hear say. No employees were there so they have no idea what really happen. This was one customer's word and opinion against another CUSTOMER'S. So don't get on your neighbor's bad side or they could make up ANYTHING to get you kick out so they can have the space to themself. And don't even think about disciplining your children even if you catch them doing something that is detrimental to their heath or well being. No wonder there's a problem with youth today not listening or respecting their elders.

This was very devastating to not only my poor children (who already seen me cry enough on this "vacation") but my whole family that has already been through a lot and was trying to make good of what we could under the curcumstances. I just can't believe a manager would act like that, and buisness could just throw a pregnant women and her kids out without any warning or some form of process just for using a curse word. That's pretty extreme for anyone!

Next year will just have to save more to rent a place outside the campground, which is a shame considering all the money my grandparent's has put into that place.

Wish the Menz never sold it!

Just returned from Big Timber Lake today. We arrived in the dark so could not fully see the site, Well, when morning hit, I thought I was in Shanty City. The site behind us was seasonal, with a built on deck(using this word loosely) 2 screenhouses with crazy lights and an wide assortment of tacky lawn decorations. This was just side. We faced the back, it has a makeshift shed with random pipes, pieces of metal and wood, junk, old lawn items and a random clothes lines attadhed to a tree. There were crazy lights that blinked on and off all night long.
We went to relax and it caused me great anxiety, I felt like I was in some tenament city, not a quiet campground. The other seasonal sites thoughout the campground were kept and decorated tastefully. I cannot believe the management allows them to keep the property this way. The sites surrounding should not be rented or the renters in site 400 should be MADE to clean up their site. Also, all seasonal sites should be kept togehter. When camping in a travel trailer, RV a person doesn't want to feel they are in a neighborhood, I could have stayed home for that

I hope they make them clean up the mess they have there, it truly is a shame. It would also be a great gesture to compensate us for having to look at the trash pile all weekend.

I don't know what was worse the attitude or the flies!!! Every year our family has a trip to campground and this one was the worst by far. It started at the gate when we pulled up the old man who stops you to check in was very rude and made our party of about 40 stay in our cars while the rest of the family checked in. Then as we were unpacking the flies started. They never stopped!!! By the time we left we were all swollen from head to toes with fly bites. We left the campground and went to the beach just to get away from the flies. Then it was night time. Every time we get together we are a little loud but there is alot of us from young children to grandparents. We sing by the fire and play guitars. Well security came again and told us it was our last warning or we were all getting thrown out. When my aunt did not hear him and laughed at something he went towards her like he was going to fight her and threatened to call the police on us around all the kids. Not cool, we are here to have fun with our family not to cause problems and be threatened in front of our children. For the price you pay for cabins there is no bathrooms or kitchen just air conditioning and beds. When I called when I got home to complain the lady on the phone was very rude and just wanted to talk over me. Don't waste your money. Stay at another campground.

Response from Jon E, General Manager at Sun Retreats Avalon
Responded Jul 14, 2013
Big Timber Lake prides itself on being a great place for families, and most of the credit for that goes to the wonderful families that stay here and keep coming back. Unfortunately, this very large family was not able to respect our policy on quiet hours, which are in place from 11pm until 8am and are enforced. We received numerous complaints about the noise at their campsites (it was not singing and guitar playing), which extended well past midnight and created an unenjoyable experience for our valued customers who do abide the rules. To the families who were disturbed by this group, we offer our apologies and hope you will come again. Disturbances like the one caused by this group are not the norm here and we will continue to enforce quiet hours . We welcome all families and ask that you be considerate of your fellow campers and follow rules that are common courtesy - it's what makes Big Timber Lake a great place. It is true that our rustic cabin rentals are indeed rustic and do not offer kitchens or bathrooms. We offer other rentals for those who would like to camp with more amenities.

There is nothing in the cabins but the beds, and a small counter with 2 stools. You have to bring everything you would just like you were camping in a tent. There is air conditioning and a ceiling fan with a light
