We loved our stay. We were in room 9 at the top of the main home. The room was spacious and the king poster bed (very romantic) had a great mattress. The omelets at breakfast were excellent. I liked the location out of the busy tourist area but still very accessible. We felt very welcomed. Highly recommend!!

Southern Hospitality Abounds at this lovingly restored 1863 Victorian Mansion. The rooms are gracious and splendidly furnished. The perfectly manicured grounds are lush with flowers. The location is superb as it is only a short and enjoyable walk to the pedestrian mall. Breakfast is a feast that carried us through the day until dinner. My only complaint is that coffee service doesn’t start until about 8 AM, and that there aren’t snacks or beverages offered in the afternoons. Perhaps wine tasting from the local winery would be a welcome addition. Also, if you have bad knees, climbing up the steps to get into the four poster bed might prove challenging. Lastly, the place is haunted; the little boy ghost in our room was sweetly mischievous! But then again, Cape May is one of the most haunted towns in the USA.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel/inn recently. This old hotel/inn was updated many years ago and not since as it has fallen into very poor condition. Our room [19] was very expensive for us and we went as a special occasion for my birthday. The bed was ok, there was good air conditioning with in -room bath but the chairs were uncomfortable and needed repair as the springs were felt and the upholstery was old, dirty and warn. The 'couch' was very low to the ground and equally uncomfortable. There was a TV but it was small and on the opposite side of the room and it was difficult to watch without stretching your neck up from the bad chairs or making it loud enough to hear from the bed.. There is no mini fridge or coffee maker in the room. The toilet is very low to the ground and difficult for most adults. The entire hotel needed paint, better seating, better light. The breakfast was mediocre. The food was not hot, and was delivered 20 -40 mins late to your table. There was nothing extra. There was no station with water, tea, coffee hot or cold; no mints or cookies in the afternoon/evening. They do not give you a tag for the beach which you need to even walk on the sand. Many of the staff are pleasant. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. You can view it from the outside and see the lovely gardens but that’s the best of it.

Unfortunately, tired and dated. Common ares spacious and clean, accommodations nice size. Rooms, are dated and need some new curtains and bathrooms don’t have comfort height toilets and shower grout has mold. Just some minor updating required to get this shining again. Linens and towels nice quality. Also, pay attention to where your room is located, ours was on post office side resulting in beeping at 4am. Also some rooms only access via numerous stairs or even spiral, might be a challenge for some with luggage.

Was visiting with friends, the place is beautiful but I felt customer service lacking. The front desk is an office behind closed doors so you have to knock to ask for assistance snd feel as though you’re interrupting them? They are understaffed and I felt bad for our breakfast server who appeared overwhelmed. Breakfast is included, I chose some yogurt and was served a Chobani in a cup! If I’m on vacation and am paying for a special experience, I expect it of s place like this. Disappointed

This was our first visit to Cape May and the Southern mansion was an amazing place and made our stay and visit to Cape May an incredible time. We will definitely return to Cape May and definitely stay at The Southern Mansion. Staff was so friendly, Ken greeted us at the door and welcomed us with a short tour and explanation of how things work. We have already recommended the Southern Mansion to all our friends and family.

Very attractive building, although some wear and tear was evident. Excellent breakfast each morning, although exact time was limited by number of guests. Helpful staff, although not always available. Our biggest negative, and a watch out for older people, were uneven sidewalk and many step ups or downs. My wife actually tripped and fell, bashing her head. The toilet was also simply too low for older people. Location was very good, only a couple blocks from the Washington Mall area. Free parking was a big plus, as parking is a problem in Cape May.

We were here for a wedding and from check-in to check-out I was shocked at the lack of hospitality or thought for guests comfort displayed. First off, there is no elevator and we were asked to carry our own suitcase upstairs. My husband was able to do it, but I am disabled and when I said I might have trouble getting up the corkscrew staircase inside (it was raining heavily outdoors), the young man at the front desk audibly scoffed at me. Although this is billed like a B&B, we were told there would be no breakfast in the morning and at first the staff blamed the bride (never blame the bride) and then walked it back and admitted that it was going to be just to busy to feed the guests? For the wedding? That had booked the entire hotel? Don't expect any amenities when you get to your room either- there's no bathtub (showers only), no kettle/coffee pot (remember that no breakfast?), no water bottles, and no IRON (thanks, it's not like we came to a formal event and might want to press something). As for the wedding itself, the less said the better- it was cramped (dinner tables crammed around the indoor porch, cocktail hour in the basement with too many pillars to put down a decent sized dance floor) and poorly thought out. We did get to have breakfast on the day we left and it was spectacularly mediocre. You have to order in advance at check in and I would say just stick to the pastries and fruit, the home fries were dripping in grease, the omelet was undercooked, and the pancakes were flat and tasteless. The property is crammed with pseudo antiques but could desperately use maintenance on the rotting gutters and awnings installed on the annex.

Lovely, bed & breakfast. All employees were very friendly and helpful. Our room was very private and quiet. Modern bath with hand painted tiles. Breakfast was amazing. You get to pick entree plus extras. I asked for oatmeal, which wasn’t on the menu, and they accommodated. We could walk to town and beach. Free, private parking. We will return.
