Lovely, bed & breakfast. All employees were very friendly and helpful. Our room was very private and quiet. Modern bath with hand painted tiles. Breakfast was amazing. You get to pick entree plus extras. I asked for oatmeal, which wasn’t on the menu, and they accommodated. We could walk to town and beach. Free, private parking. We will return.

Truly one of the best B&Bs in Cape May. Very charming and reflective of its Victorian history. This is an adults only property though they will welcome young adults 13 and older and have rooms that will accommodate them. All the rooms are furnished representing their Victorian heritage, with many items dating to the original house. It has an impressive history. The property is comfortably within a walking distance to the Washington Mall and many of the great restaurants in Cape May. It also is one of the few that has it's own off street parking. The breakfast is outstanding and deliciously prepared and presented. Christy who greeted us on arrival is a charming hostess and extremely engaging. Note there are NO elevators; keep this in mind if you have any mobility issues. There are rooms on the first floor.

The property is beginning to look like it needs a lot of work. My wedding was here about 10 years ago and I have stayed here a few other times since. It is understood that the rooms are going to to have a Victorian vibe, but for the price, they could at the very least put a small fridge in the room. Then they could eliminate the huge ice machine in the ballroom area that overflows (and is noisy if you have a nearby room). We could hear every toilet flush in the unit above us followed by a drip in the ceiling and huge crack in the ceiling above the bed was probably the result of the leak. Also, it was raining one morning and they had towels around the inside spiral staircase for another obvious leak. There was also noticeable wood rot on the outside of the building in the same corner of the building which would not have been a recent occurrence. I think they have funneled more funds to the Willow Creek Winery and neglected the Mansion. The breakfast was pretty good and the receptionist was friendly. All in all though, it is probably not worth the money.

First of all there is no front desk unless you can open the large door that leads to a room where an attendant is supposed to occupy. On the weekend we were there, the room was unoccupied most of the time & near the end of our stay when we found an attendant, she was unable to answer this simple question...."What time is checkout?" Now for the room. It was obviously designed for people of the Victorian era & I guess, for them the room emulated their own mode of living. If you are the size of people of that era as my wife & I were (5'7") & you are older than 70, you will need the supplied small step-ladder to get into bed, while the "love seat" is about an inch off the ground with no fluffy cushions to make it an easy/comfortable place to sit.. The bathroom is tiny with a toilet & shower in it; but the sink is NOT in the bathroom. It's in between the closets in the bedroom...so, after you "toilet"you have to handle the bathroom doorknob & exit the bathroom to wash your hands. Ugh !! If your room is on the second floor you will have to traverse a steep ,long stairway with your baggage in hand. The breakfast was fine & the breakfast servers were friendly& helpful.

The past two years has made traveling really hard, so we were itching to just get away for a couple of days just two hours south to Cape May The Southern Mansion seemed to check all of our boxes, and I'm so happy we did! My partner and I were in room 12 our friends were in room 3 (the VERY red room). All around this place made the trip super and I would recommend it to anyone looking to go to Cape May. Our room, 12, was a bilevel room with a gorgeous (seriously gorgeous) sun room. While it was a little quirky with a sink located just inside the room, not in the bathroom, and a seriously low ceiling in the loft that anyone taller than 4 feet tall would hit there head on (and we both did multiple times) and very narrow steps to get to both the room and loft (don't drink heavily if you are staying in this room). We like quirky, and the period furniture was a nice touch, and everything was spotless. It was pretty miserable weather Friday night when we checked in so it was really appreciated that the inn had pretty decent cable compared to other inns we have been to. The sun room alone makes this room worth it and makes up for low bonking our heads a couple times. Our friends totally loved room 2. Be warned the artwork in the room is big, and of a particular taste. They also had a few eery experiences in the room. They admit that it could have just been all the talk of Halloween and ghosts playing tricks with their minds, but the hotel is supposed to be haunted. We had no such luck in room 12. Overall the entire place is gorgeous! Walking around it and the grounds is fun all in itself. It is super conveniently located to everything in town. We didn't need our cars at all once we parked them in the convenient parking lot right on the grounds. The staff was all extremely friendly, and the breakfasts were a great way to start our days. Not much to find wrong at The Southern Mansion.

A nice trip to get away for my mom's birthday! This was my 4th time staying here, so I did some research on the rooms before I booked! My mom can do a few stairs as long as there are railings. The front entrance she just needed to hold on to my arm and she was good. We chose room 16 for a few reasons. It was on the first floor, note there are no elevators so being on the first floor is a must if stairs are an issue for you! When you are booking, you can see which rooms are on the first floor, I think i called 3 times to make sure I had a good room for mom! :) Once in the mansion, it was just one step into the one hallway and one step into our room. The location for breakfast was great. Room 16 was the first room down the porch which is shared by others, but you are nicely spaced apart. Your table for breakfast is right outside your door. It was a little cool but it was not bad, we did have the option to move to the other enclosed porch but chose to stay at our table. Breakfast is always great, no complaints. Our waitress Renee was great and after talking we realized her son Brody was our waiter when we stayed the last time! Both great servers! Another reason I chose this room was for the extra day bed. The King Beds are very high. They do supply a small sturdy step ladder but it's challenging if you have mobility issues. I had to help my mom on and off the bed, but the next night she slept in the day bed which she said was very comfortable. I went knowing this could be an issue so I am glad we had that smaller bed as an option! The room was beautiful, we did hear talking in the morning around 8am, which for us wasn't a big deal. We think it was just the workers getting ready for breakfast. We were up anyway, but if you were choosing to sleep in a little later, there are more rooms further down the porch! Honestly no complaints. Improvements would be possibly having a small mini fridge in the room ( I would have loved to bring back my leftovers from dinner), and some light refreshments like water, coffee or tea at sometime during the afternoon or evening. Ice is located downstairs so again, stairs may be an issue if ice is needed. A beautiful piece of property, awesome staff, and a beautiful Mansion. Will definitely stay again!

Spent a wonderfully romantic and relaxing weekend here in mid-September. By day the mansion and flower-lined brick walkways are gorgeous, and by night the strings of lights give it a warm and cozy feel. If you enjoy sipping wine, sharing conversation, and relaxing in a rocking chair on the front porch then this is your place to be!

. . . The Mansion is really a small hotel. There are many room options all with different furnishings, amenities and views. For example, we opted for room 18 which is actually designated as a suite because it is a larger room with an extra (single) bed. Just outside the room on the porch we had our own rockers and a small table which we used frequently to read and have a drink during cocktail hour. Nearby we had another table and chairs where our breakfast was served every morning. Delightful! The hotel's grounds are wonderful (see photos). The staff --- front desk, housekeeping and servers --- are all friendly and helpful. Since this is an historic property there are a few things of note: 1. There are no refrigerators in the rooms. 2. There is no elevator. 3. The various entrances are not handicap accessible. We have stayed at the Mansion many times and look forward to returning.

We had a great experience with staff and our rooms at this location! We had quiet and spacious rooms (even the single in our three person room was quite comfortable for my 5’10” body), and delicious breakfast every day. We also took advantage of the free beach chairs and towel rental for our beach day, which was lovely. The porch was great for sitting in the rocking chairs and enjoying the lovely garden, and there were plenty of other outside or indoor seating locations to enjoy the company of your friends/etc. The location was 10 minutes or less from both the main shopping area and the beach, so it was ideal for a first time visit to Cape May, and has dedicated parking for guests in case you need to bring a car to travel a bit further out. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice B&B in Cape May!
