My wife and I spent a week at the Chalfonte in early June and had a great experience. We spent lots of time exploring the historic building as well as the grounds. The location of the Chalfonte is ideal - close to the beach and Washington Street Mall, but also in an area that is very quiet, which makes the... More

Hi Gene! Thank you so much for your kind words! We couldn't agree more that the porch is the best place to be for relaxation. We will pass along your kind words to our staff. We look forward to seeing you again soon! More

My spouse, child and I had dinner on the porch. The setting was lovely, very quaint and historic, perfect setting. We walked through the main dining room to get to the porch and that dining room really has no ambiance. Definitely choose the porch if you want ambiance. The best part of the meal were the pop-overs and the pulled... More

I love the Chalfonte for what it is and appreciate the sense of another time. Staff have been great - always polite and helpful. If you are looking for all the modern conveniences of a newly built chain hotel, you'll not find them here. If you love screen doors, rocking chairs, and a sense of a place that has welcomed... I've been to the Chalfonte on many occasions and each time is just as great. This is a no frills hotel but when you are in a beautiful city like Cape May you don't need much. he managers here are great, so sweet and always willing to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I've stayed in the "shared" bathroom... More

The Chalfonte dates to 1876, so you have to take that into consideration when you stay there! Quirky grand dame of Cape May hotels. Fun if you like a bit of history but not without drawbacks. I knew going in that the rooms did not have TVs, phones, hair dryers, etc. It says so on the website. There is a... More

There price we received was perfect for the rooms we were given. The staff of this hotel was very accommodating with all of our demands (and we had many). They provided exactly what we needed. I recommend the meal plan, it will save you a ton of money.

We loved the vibe of the Chalfonte, and had a very romantic getaway. It is very centrally located to walk everywhere yet very quiet. Nothing beat sitting on the amazing porch in rockers with a lemonade or cocktail and an ocean breeze. The breakfast buffet in the dining room was abundant & delicious every morning, and the King Eddie Bar... More

A historic hotel which is actually bare bones. That is how I would describe this venue. There is no TV, no clock , radio or a phone. Unless you have a mobile, there is no way to connect to the front desk if there is an emergency. We had an incident and got locked in our room. The chain lock... More

Chalfonte markets themselves as a historic boutique hotel. Do not be deceived! 1. Reservations- this was the only highlight. I spoke with two different women to book and confirm my room. Both were extremely courteous and helpful. They guided me to the room which would fit my needs without trying to sell me the hugest package. 2. Arrival- we arrived... More

I have been coming to Cape May for 15 years for my summer vacations. This was the first time staying at the Chalfonte, and it was definitely my last. Part of the charm of Cape May is the history, but the old-fashioned rooms in this hotel were not charming at all. There is no way for a guest to alter... More
