Had a wonderful time at the Bedford Inn recently. Archie did a great job making us feel at home. The room was lovely and the breakfast was excellent. When I return to Cape May I will definitely stay here!

We are repeat customers as the rooms are okay and the location convenient. In the past we overlooked the fact that the main part of the breakfast was usually a homemade dish of pure grease/fat so as to be inedible. We politely requested more healthy options last year and again

This guest started coming to the Bedford Inn about three years ago with others who had already been coming annually since 2012. They raved about the inn and never once mentioned anything other than how much they loved coming to the Bedford. This guest on the other hand seem to start complaining about things without any basis from the time she arrived. When I approached her other traveling partners about what I could or should do with this situation I was told not to worry about it as she did this where ever they stayed. It appeared to me that she was just trying to get a discount by complaining since a discount was requested when checking out the first year she stayed. As far as our breakfast goes, we serve a full hot breakfast which is usually served buffet style. We have eight different menus so you could stay for eight days and not get the same thing twice. The main dish rotates daily between a sweet dish (i.e. French toast) and a savory dish (i.e. eggs). We do not put any meat in our casseroles to accommodate vegetarians and with advance notice can make most of these dishes Gluten Free. We serve a different meat (we bake meats when possible to avoid excess fat) every day along with fresh fruit when in season. We serve muffins, scones and many different kinds of homemade breads. We also have both hot and cold cereals including some of which are gluten free. We have even provided things like yogurt, almond milk, soy milk or sugarless syrup upon request. We also serve fruit juices, hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Again, I asked what else we could do to accommodate her needs and was told not to worry about it that everything was fine. The so-called house rules are merely instructions such as how to get in and out of the front door. Where the outside showers, beach chairs and towels are located. How to park in our on-site parking space in a way that would not impede anyone else from using their vehicle while parking and staying at the inn. Where and how to use the coffee machine that is available 24 hours a day and what time breakfast is served in the morning. All of which are stated to ensure a better stay for all of our guests. It is ironic that this would be brought up since this guest made negative comments about a different establishment for the lack of rules that would better accommodate her stay. This year was no different than previous years except for the presence of my new wife and co-innkeeper. One of the many places that a guest can have breakfast is at our dining room table. This is set the night before for those who wish to sit there. We have a station, for those wishing to take their food outside on either the open or the enclosed porches, with utensils, trays and napkins provided for those wishing to do so. My wife noticed that this guest was taking settings from the table and may not have been aware of the station with the trays to take her food outside. So, thinking she was helping our guest, my wife, told this guest where the station was. It would be much easier to carry one’s food with a tray than to carry a plate, utensils and a napkin. I am not sure about her statement, management not being available or no where to be found, as we live at the inn. And if we are out of the inn our guests have our cell numbers so that they can call us in case of an emergency or even if they just need information. Prior to this guest contacting us she already had our housekeeper change her linens, so at that time it was a moot point. We have daily housekeeping which includes making the bed, taking out the trash, cleaning the bathroom and replacing any linens that had been noticeably soiled. She was never charged any extra fees. After numerous complaints from this guest, my wife and I felt we needed to confront her fellow travelers and our long-time guests about this situation which was affecting our other guests negatively. At check out we let them know we had concerns about the many complaints and that the Bedford Inn was obviously not meeting her expectations and maybe she should consider going to another fine B&B in Cape May. Her traveling partners who had been coming for years was very apologetic about the situation. We would hope all who stay at the Bedford would leave feeling better than when they arrived and we do our very best to make all feel welcome. We are blessed to have had so many people (350 plus people) take the time to write such wonderful experiences while staying at the Bedford Inn.

what fees do you charge besides total price for stay?
There are no fees other than the NJ State Sales Tax and the NJ Lodging Fee. The total is 14% which is State mandated. I hope this answers your question. Thank you.
