We love this place, and have been coming here twice a year with our dog (except 2020, when the governor prohibited "short term rentals" for a few months, so we missed last April), off season for a number of years now. It's always clean, cozy, and comfortable. The two efficiency rooms have stoves, in addition to the refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Breakfast is always wonderful, whether it's eggs, bacon, pork roll, sausage, pancakes, French toast, or whatever. There's always a selection of baked goods, and fruit, too. I've never walked away from breakfast hungry, and more often than not, I'm so full 6that I don't even want lunch.
My boyfriend, no fiancé and I stayed here over the weekend that we got engaged and it could not have been a more perfect place to stay! David (the owner) went above and beyond to make our stay so memorable by decorating our room with cake and flowers to celebrate and treats for our dog! David and his staff are such wonderful people that truly care about the guest and pet friends that stay at the highland house. Our room was so cozy and welcoming and clean! We loved having a homemade breakfast on the porch every morning and a glass of wine in the garden every night. The highland house is also in the perfect location to walk to dinner in town or shop on Washington street. We cannot wait for our next trip to the highland house and hope to make this a yearly tradition. Thank you again so so much to David and the rest of the highland house staff for making this a truly unforgettable trip! We would recommend this beautiful place to everyone!…
We have been fortunate to have traveled to this amazing vacation destination for 10 years now and it never disappoints. The owner, Dave, always goes above and beyond and we absolutely love vacationing in Cape May. This year was a little different but Dave and his staff ensured that the location was clean and safe. We travel with our dogs and had it not been for the Highland house we would have been unable to take vacations every year. We can’t say enough wonderful things about this location. It genuinely feels like our home away from home. The one dog Is 13 but my husband makes sure he is never left behind.
I believe our stay earlier this week was our fourth or fifth at Highland House. We always go off season for bird migration, and have our dog with us. The cats can stay at home for a few days with food, water, and litter boxes that start off clean, so we only travel with our one dog. The location is great for us, since we spend most of our time out at Sunset, the lighthouse, or Higbee. Plus, there are several good places within easy walking distance to pick up a lunch to go, or sit down for dinner. Breakfast is always good, whether it's quiche, an egg casserole, or "eggs your way," and there are always some fruit and baked goods to accompany it. Coffee, tea, and juice are there, too. You will not walk away from breakfast feeling hungry. All rooms have some version of a kitchenette, so you can make your own coffee in-room, store leftovers, and nuke them later. The two efficiency rooms also have stoves, along with private entrances in the back of the house. The staff has always been wonderful. I've never met Dave, the owner, but that's because we always book on weekdays, not the weekend. Highland House is not super fancy, but it's always clean, and comfortable. If you want a really romantic weekend getaway with picture perfect everything, champagne, gourmet chocolates, and roses in your room, this is not your place, but if you want comfortable digs that allows pets, this IS your place. We will be back sometime next Spring.…
This place was awesome for our first anniversary trip with our large dog. Very clean, the staff was courteous, and the breakfast was fantastic. We stayed in the Garden Room, and it was a little snug but the attached porch was awesome with lots of room. We had plenty of space to hang out! The only downside is that the Garden Room doesn't have a microwave, which is a little inconvenient (especially since we like making tea). I believe the other rooms might have more kitchen/dining space. However, there is a mini fridge which was very helpful! Overall, this was the perfect spot for the three of us. We'll be definitely be back on our next trip!
