Gal who checked me in had clearly had a long day. My room requests were ignored, her insistence that it was a full house a bit implausible. The less than hospitable reception aside(and a view more of adjacent rooms than the ocean), the room itself was sparkling clean, thoughtfully appointed and very comfortable. This is on the high end of the price range in a town full of pricing options, but it's location and amenities were worth it.
Stayed Easter weekend, and unfortunately it was cold, windy and rainy. Otherwise, we could have enjoyed the nice balcony and beautiful view of the beach. Stayed with my wife and we loved that it had a separate bedroom and living room/kitchen. The kitchen had a nice refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher. Everything in the room looked in excellent condition. The funny thing about the bedroom was that it was the first room you walked into from the door, which is the opposite of what you would expect. The bathroom was a little small also. A couple of things that could be annoying. The bedroom has a washer dryer stack in a closet. Convenient I guess, but this also means that the room above and below you also has one and the walls are not thick. You can easily hear the washer running from the other room above us, and it was 1:30 in the morning! What's worse, we discovered that there was some sort of leak while their washer was running, and there was a constant leak of water into our bathroom. We texted the front desk, but they are not there off hours, so no one answered. Luckily, it was only in the bathroom and we were done using it so it wasn't a huge bother to us. But because of this, the next morning the management moved us to a room next door and were very gracious about it, even offering free breakfast at one of the nearby restaurants to make amends. There was also a rustling sound that appeared the same morning in the dryer vent pipe. It sounded like a bird might have been inside, but the handyman could not figure it out either, which was another reason they moved us. One other thing to point out is that the furnace is also in the bedroom in another closet. And every time it turns on, it sounds like a giant motor turns on and can easily wake you up if you are a light sleeper. Even when awake, it just kind of takes you by surprise because of how jarring it is. The rest of the complex is very nice. It has a pretty large fitness center with a good number of machines, better than most hotels. It also has a large lounge room with dvd's you can borrow for the dvd player in your room, books, games and a TV. Also an arcade room with a few arcade machines that you need to pay for. The pool was closed, but it looked big. It is also pretty close to most shops and the view of the beach was amazing with no obstructions. Though there were a couple of hiccups along the way, management was very accommodating. If you can stand the noise from the washer and furnace, it's a very nice setup and the location is perfect. Beats a B&B IMHO. It's offseason, so prices are a lot lower than in season when it can be 3 to 4x the price I paid.…
The Sandpiper is in a nice location, directly across from the beach close to Washington Square Mall. The staff for the most part was helpful and did a nice job. It was a little disappointing to see one of the windows in the two bedroom unit “fixed" with a screw sticking out of the window. If the wind blew at all it created a whistling noise that made it hard to sleep.... that aside the room was kept very clean and was nice. I would stay here again
Pros: Close to most of what Cape May has to offer, room-assigned parking, enormous and beautiful guest rooms. Cons: Limited office hours, bedroom window treatments don't keep out the light, not inexpensive. (Note: This was an off-season stay, so we didn't get to enjoy the beach and pool, and it's possible the limited office hours wouldn't have been a problem in season.) A last-minute decision to spend the night in Cape May led us to the Sandpiper and we'd wished for a few more nights- this is the kind of property inviting guests to make themselves at home for at least a couple days. We had a balcony overlooking both the pool and beach, and having a separate living room area made it feel less like a hotel and more like a decent-sized apartment. It's too bad the bedroom was on the side of the unit where the sun rises- some room-darkening shades would have been most welcome as we attempted to sleep in. Sandpiper is within walking distance of most of what Cape May is known for, including the Washington Street Mall, West End Garage, and of course pristine beaches. As limited parking sometimes creates headaches at shore resorts, we enjoyed having a reserved space in the parking lot. That kind of attention to detail relieves a lot of the stress of possibly returning late at night to find nowhere to park the car. The office offered a lot of text message communication, but only allowed an hour between the 4:00 check-in and its closure at 5:00. Despite having arrived in this small window, the office was already closed at 4:45, meaning we had to drive to nearby Congress Hall to check in and pick up our room keys. Hopefully this not an issue in the busy summer season when getting around Cape May is much more of a challenge. It seems one gets what they pay for- an incredible place to experience Cape May, but pricey even though our stay was nowhere close to peak season. We will absolutely return, albeit before the summer months when the rates are likely sky-high.…
We had a lovely stay at the Sandpiper. Our suite we were in pops out a bit from the main building so we had a side window and side edge to the balcony that gave us lots of extra light and a great view. The high ceiling in the kitchen allows for skylights that also let in lots of light! The suite was clean, and had a full kitchen plus a washer and dryer. The appliances all worked well and we were able to cook dinner there. The fitness center is amazing! There's a tiny room with some old video arcade machines, and a lounge area of games and videos, so if you travel with a large group you can all hang out there. The location across the street from the beach is fabulous. We went after beach season but they were able to loan me a beach chair. The pool was closed for the season but the pool area looked very nice, lots of chairs and umbrellas. It's nice to have your own dedicated parking spot. The spots are tight so leave your giant SUV at home. Everything you need is within walking distance so once you park, you won't need your car again until you leave! All the employees were nice and everything was very very clean. We can't wait to come back!…
Great location - on the beach. Quiet. We stayed here on our way to Cape Hatteras. Due to Covid concerns we prefer to eat in, and the Sandpiper satisfied our needs. They also allowed a one night rental. It was very clean. The kitchen well stocked. Good linens. Not five stars for two reasons. 1. Finding the condo involved going through a locked door, so we had to return to the front desk for clarification. Yes our key opened the door but then there was no condo number outside the door. The key opened the door and we were in. Not ideal after traveling 11 hours. 2. Although the condo was lovely the "ocean" view was partially blocked by a wall. Not a big deal but a bit disappointing. In spite of the negatives we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay (this was our second time) and hope to stay in the future.…
We are a return visitor to Cape May. . We always enjoy our stay at the Sandpiper. The units are well appointed, comfortable, and clean. The new pool and gym are terrific. The location is outstanding, as it is right across the street from the beach, and convenient to restaurants and shopping. We look forward to our next visit.
Excellent location, friendly staff, great housekeeping service. Parking lot a bit tight and disappointed the pool renovation wasn’t completed, but otherwise a great place to stay. Loved having the separate bedroom and full kitchen. Complimentary beach service (towels chairs umbrellas) was a major plus as well. Would definitely stay here again.
The ongoing renovation was annoying at times. Not easily handicap accessible. Pool construction was noisy, especially because we had an ocean facing balcony. Front desk ladies were exceptional. Rooms were clean. The second bedroom of the 2 bed, 2 bath was extremely small, m ou re fir 1 person. Very little storage. Overall, pricey for the amenities we did not get. Location was very good
We had reserved an oceanfront 2 bedroom suite. The first room they gave us was unacceptable. Apparently, construction workers had just finished polishing the countertops. Upon entering the room, one of the workers was still in the room.......in the bathroom..........using the bathroom. Pretty gross and stinky. Also the AC did not work and the room as filthy. However, after calling the front desk to report it, they moved us to the room next door. Kristen at the front desk was awesome. This room was much better. Keep in mind that all of these rooms are privately owned units that are just managed by Cape Resorts. The oceanfront rooms are more like mini condominiums. The room we had was spacious, albeit a little outdated. But the view of the ocean was awesome. The mattress in the MBR of this specific room (215), is in dire need of replacement. My side of the bed felt like the mattress was trying to roll me onto the floor. My wife's side was fine. So after the first night, I slept in the 2nd bedroom. Much better, although not the romantic getaway we quite planned. Overall, the hotel is nice and it looks like they are investing in some property upgrades. As long as that continues and they put some updates in the rooms, it will be a nice place. We may consider returning if they make the improvements.…
