We have vacationed in Cape May for over 40 years, we've always loved the place and have been to this motel numerous times. After having been in OC Maryland in a hotel that was incredible, and about $75 a night less than the Mt. Vernon (we had an ocean front with balcony in OC), we won't be returning to the Mt Vernon. We walked into the room and it was 90+ degrees as the AC was off, not sure when it was on last. The room had a musty smell to it, but after running the AC a couple of hours, the smell went away. However, whenever the AC turned off, the smell came back. The room was ok, however I think it was the first hotel I've stayed at that didn't at least have a coffee maker in the room. TV was old, but it worked. Biggest turnoff were the number of people smoking in front of their rooms. I'm not sure about the smoking policy at other hotels in Cape May, but I think everyone that smoked stayed at this hotel. When you're not exposed to it much anymore, the smoking was annoying as we couldn't sit in front of our room due to it. Sorry Mt. Vernon, we won't be returning.…
Motel was spotless and in a great location. The cleaning people were thorough and friendly. The view from our room was amazing and they also have a sundeck on the second floor. Great clean Motel which I would recommend to friends, clients and family.
Looking at the pictures of the hotel on the internet makes it look like a nice place to visit. When checking in I was handed a key to the room which, to me, is an indicator that the motel has not been updated. When heading to the room you have to pass people sitting outside their room or pool side smoking. For non-smokers, not so nice. When entering the room there was a smell of cleaning chemicals. The room was clean and the bathroom looks like it was recently renovated. Then everything went downhill. For the price of the room it was lacking essentials like shampoo, hand cream, etc. I went to the front desk and asked and was told the motel does not supply those items. Of course we had to purchase shampoo from a local drug store. Also, it was lacking a coffee maker. These items have been automatically supplied in any hotel I have visited in the last 10 years. As I stated, the room smelled clean until the air conditioner kicked in - then we would get a slight mildew smell. There was so much wrong with this room for the price we paid. The towels were slightly above Motel 6 towels in thickness. The shower head is non-adjustable and no exhaust fan in the bathroom. The TV was not high definition and a small screen. It did have plenty of channels to choose from. The motel is dated and has that 1950's feel to the rooms. I would not recommend this motel to anyone.…
We booked this motel online for a 1 night stay. When we opened the door there was a musty, damp smell. I think it's the old carpet. I tried to put the air conditioner and it made it worse. There was an old crusty bed spread (disgusting). They were lacking basic amenities that all o0ther hotels/motels provide: There was no phone in the room (Their WiFi does not work) There was no shampoo, conditioner, lotion bottles - lacking basic amenities There was a coffee pot but no coffee, sugar, etc. We had to pay for beach access We were only there for 1 night and the mean blonde lady at the front desk would not allow my 3 year old to get in the pool for a few minutes after check out. She claimed "It's for insurance reasons" I have never heard of that ever. Mean Lady. I will definitely not be returning to this Motel ever again. I felt robbed. There was an envelop to tip the housekeeping staff. Really!!!…
I have always given this hotel top reviews. I don't give out 5's because I feel any place has room for improvement. I do have to agree with another review about the smoking. If the windows are open than the smoke comes in the room. It would be nice to have a no smoking policy both in and out. We also wish they would put in more outlets for chargers. We unplug the light at the front window to put a power strip for our charges. This is an old fashion "mom and pop" motel.
