Been staying for many years. We love the inn but the complimentary wine and cheese for guests is identical and the same offering to what they have serving for years. Please consider mixing it up a little bit so multi day guests can have something different from one day to the next

We celebrated our anniversary by staying at this lovely inn and had a wonderful time - so glad we stayed here! Our room was comfortable and we enjoyed the gas fireplace when it got cooler in the evening. Everyone we met who worked there was professional, friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed the happy hour and breakfast and had a delicious dinner at the PS restaurant. We made good use of the bikes that are provided to explore the area and then relaxed on the beautiful front porch. We highly recommend the PSI to couples looking for a relaxing getaway! We can’t wait to go back!

Peter Shield is just a very beautiful Inn. We were on the second floor...Had our own little back deck. Bathroom was very big and very clean. Bed was comfortable and ocean was across the street. Morning breakfast was great (service was excellent) and afternoon wine and cheese a nice touch. Your room key got us two chairs and a beach umbrella across the street. (Should have included beach passes) My only complaint is they raised the prices a lot since the pandemic. Definitely upscale.

We went for dinner. Sat on the porch. A storm was threatening and it did rain. Plastic curtains kept the rain out. Service was very patchy. Our server Dylan was fine but we weren’t shown to our table - just pointed - and bread was literally thrown on the table. The BIG issue is that once it was dark one tiny candle was all the light provided. I couldn’t even see what I was eating. It is very expensive so we were surprised that the service was so poor. Give this place a big miss. Far more interesting places to eat at in Cape May.

We have stayed in three different rooms at the PSI and enjoyed each one. The mattresses are unbeatable. The linens high quality, and the rooms very clean. The staff pleasant and helpful. We had a delicious dinner during our April stay. It was such a pleasure retreating to our comfy room and turning on the fireplace after dinner. For the first time we had breakfast, and it was excellent. This raises an issue, and hence the 4 instead of 5 stars. We are early risers, and having to wait until 8:30 for breakfast is a stretch. And for those of us wanting to get on the road earlier breakfast options would be appreciated. Another reason for the 4 stars - an inn of this caliber should have morning self-serve coffee. Not that I mind the Keurig set-up but fresh coffee from a dispenser would be preferable.

This is our first time staying at PSI, we came with long time friends, beautiful place and very friendly staff. Rooms are very clean, the Inn is very clean. Sitting on the porch enjoying the ocean breeze was relaxing. We met some wonderful people who were also staying at the Inn. We ate dinner the first night there, wow very good food and an excellent wait staff. I am someone who can find something wrong with something, however, I can not say anything wrong. It was a perfect 3 day getaway. We will return next year.

We stayed at The Peter Shields Inn the week before Labor Day. This is a nice looking B&B that takes you back in time to the old days of Cape May. It is located about a mile from the Washington Street Gallery. We liked the quiet separation from the busy area and enjoyed the walk. The hotel has great beach access; it is right across the street. They serve cheese, fruit, and wine every afternoon and it is relaxing to sit on the porch, looking at the ocean, and watching people walk by. We stayed in room 6, which has an ocean view. The “view” is not what you expect. There is a small sized window you can look through rather than a large picture window. We are used to a view where you look at the ocean while you are getting ready or sitting in the morning with a cup of coffee reading the paper. That is not the case. The room is undersized for the amount they charge and the big turn off was the mold. There was a large patch of mold flowing from the air conditioner to the floor and there was mold in the bathroom. This hotel has great potential, but it the it delivered much less than we had hoped for on this trip. I will add that the restaurant is spectacular and will post a separate review on that topic.

Response from InnManger1301, Manager at Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant
Responded Jan 8, 2017
Hi Michael M, Thank you so much for your review! We're glad you got to enjoy wine and cheese and the front porch. It's also great that you got to explore our charming town. I'm very sorry to hear that you didn't like your stay in room six. I understand your frustration with the view. As stated on our website, room six does have a "Ocean front view with dormer window". We are always happy to explain to our guests what that means when they ask. As for the size of the room, we are considered a Boutique Bed and Breakfast that was once a private residence. The rooms are a reflection of that conversion. We do have other rooms that have a larger area than room six, and again are happy to explain that to our guests when they call. The "Mold" you saw running from the air conditioner was an unfortunate continuance of an issue that we had been experiencing in that room. We had a leak for several weeks that we were unable to locate and at the time of your stay, we were in the mists of switching contractors so that we could rectify the problem. It has since been fixed and the wallpaper replaced. We are also beginning major renovations in that bathroom this month. Although you were not satisfied with your room, we hope you come back and try us again! Thank you, Danielle Inn Manager

I stayed at this location based on the wonderful reviews... the place is wonderful down to the bedding the rooms and the food the only problem was with my stay .. the air conditioner was not working .. and it was humid .. called the 24hr service line and the person on the other end .. was irrated that I called.. they troubled shooted over the phone and was told I would have to wait till the morning to have someone look at it! After sweating all night.. and into the late morning .. someone did say it was broken and I was given a 50.00 discount.. which is not great after spending a ton of money to stay there. Wrote a letter to the company and never heard back.

Accommodations, food and hospitality; all highly top notch. My husband and I wanted a much needed break from NYC. We desired somewhere close and relaxing. We received just that! You knew it was the afternoon when you smelt the fresh baked cookies in the living room. Along with wine and cheese. Cannot forget oysters as part of evening dinner. Walking distance to many restaurants and of course; the beach. Will return.

We just came back from a romantic week-end getaway and also to celebrate my birthday. We had a great time and loved the place. Stephanie at the front desk was extremely nice and helpful. Every one there was great. The food was also excellent. We loved the wine and cheese in the afternoon and the fireplace in our room added a romantic touch. Room was very clean and even though we did not use the maid service, she left us fresh towels and toiletries in a basket outside our door each day. Loved having an ocean front room. Even though our room #7 only had a dormer window facing the ocean, the view was fantastic. I am attaching two pictures of the beautiful sunrise one morning and the stormy ocean the day before. Just a perfect trip all around.
