This is a nice hotel a few blocks off the beaten path in Cape May on the Beach Road. The first impression we had was at the front desk when 2 men were checking into their room which was situated directly across from the front desk. They seemed a bit disappointed by the location of their room. The manager responded by saying, “Well, that is what you get for booking last minute.” The gentleman responded very politely, “We booked a month ago...is that considered last minute?” The rooms at the Icona are big and beautifully decorated. We booked a king room with balcony. To our disappointment our balcony was divided into two (sharing it with another room) leaving only room for one chair or one person on the balcony. I spoke to the manager about it and he said I should have requested a full balcony if I wanted one. I told him the website does not mention that a few of the rooms have a smaller balconies than others. He said the virtual tour shows the smaller balcony. I corrected him by saying it shows the door to the balcony and the view from it, but not the size of the balcony itself. He acknowledged that I was correct but he noted that our room was larger than the room with a full balcony. I responded by saying, “If I had the choice, I would have preferred the regular size room with the balcony for two, since it was just me and my husband and I am paying for a balcony.” They pride themselves as being a luxury boutique hotel. The pool is very small and sits directly street level, parallel to the street. Cars going by just steps always from you. They do not have a restaurant onsite. They also do not offer concierge service. It would be nice for the price you are paying per night for the Icona, to have that amenity. They do have great beach chairs for use and the staff will bring them to the beach for you if want. They also have a shuttle to take you to their other properties that do have onsite restaurants. But we felt that we were there to enjoy Cape May, not the other towns. I have to say that I would not stay there again. I feel the price is too high for what they offer. No onsite restaurant, pool basically on the street, and a one person balcony. …
We have been vacationing in Cape May the last 14 summers. Our go to have been many of the excellent B&B. This summer we decided to try a different venue and pleased we did. We found the Icona to be very clean, amazing room amenities, comfortable beds, plenty of towels, excellent housekeeping each day. The ability to use their sister resort in Wildwood Crest was just perfect. John was our shuttle driver for two days; he certainly is very friendly and professional. All the employees were so friendly, helpful making you feel right at home. The property is immaculate as well . Icona will definitely be our new go to vacation spot
My mother and I spent 3 nights and we had the most amazing time! Everything was wonderful. The hotel was so accommodating and clean. I want to give a big shout out to John the shuttle driver! He was the best!
We had a wonderful time and experience at Icona for a 3 night stay. The hotel and room And hotel were very clean and felt they took All the right steps to keep it sanitized and a safe place. The staff was excellent, very friendly and accommodating from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. The location is terrific, right across from the beach and with the beach chair service they made it very easy. I highly recommend this hotel and will be back.
The Icona Cape May is my new favorite destination in NJ! Over the last 20 years we have stayed in the Cape May area and this (our first time staying at Icona) trip was by far our best one. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They really made our experience wonderful. The hotel was kept very clean and made us feel secure staying there during the current circumstances. The shuttle drivers were always on time and made our experience that much better. We will only be staying at Icona in the future.
