As everyone else is stating they did not tell the guests that they were renovating. I flew out from Los Angeles with my at the time girlfriend to propose and the lobby and restaurants were closed. I even paid for her family to come out on there recommendation of going to this resort. They swore it was an amazing place but were as disappointed as us. The poor staff was frustrated with complaints and the management did not offer or care about the experience or to notify guests.

We had an excellent stay at this resort. We were a bit apprehensive given the reviews we read however we were pleasantly surprised they were wrong! The service was amazing. Shout out to Taylor and Sue at the bar and Brittany in the dining hall. The food was fantastic and we had room service, bar fare and ate in the dining room for dinner and breakfast. The room was impeccable. The grounds were amazing and they had tons of activities. Shout out to the bar trivia! We would go back again!

Horrible!!! I booked 2 nights to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. When I booked, I was never told about massive renovations. When we arrived, the hotel was a mess. Painters were in the lobby, and the smell was unbearable. The restaurant was a disaster. An employee told me many guests are upset and complained about the condition of the hotel. I reached out to management, and they didn't care or apologize. I have been coming to this hotel for the past 10 years. I will never return. Horrible management!!!!!

We have been coming to the Mountain View for years. Sometimes 3 times a year. This has been our special family vacation destination. I am extremely disappointed this year with the new ‘group’ that has taken over the hotel. First off walking into the newly designed lobby was heart breaking. It looks nothing like it did before. The new renovation does NOT match the feel of the Mountain View. The plans they have on a board in the lobby look modern and just like every other chain hotel. There is no historical connection at all. Visually, it just looks sterile and boring. They are destroying the charm the Mountain View has always had. I’m not sure how they can stay on the National Registry of Historical Hotels. The new flooring is just horrible and I really hope they don’t continue it throughout the whole hotel. Please reconsider this renovation. If they follow the plan and the hotel looks like the mood board, the ambiance and reason why we love the Mountain View will be diminished greatly! The White Mountains is a special place and the few Grand Hotels left, should stay Grande. The renovations at Mountain View are just heart breaking! Even the furniture in the rooms- the new dresser with a refrigerator is just like every other chain, ugly and no character. The only saving grace are the amazing staff members who are wonderful and loyal to the property, because the Mountain View is like a person, a place to relax and return to the way family vacations used to be. This new takeover is disturbing. Maybe if the people who made the decisions could visit this beautiful spot, they would realize their mistake!! The spirit of the Mountain View is being destroyed!

I have stayed here several times over the years and always enjoyed my stay but this last visit was the exception. We had a terrible experience-They are in the middle of a large demolition/renovation project where as the restaurants, lobby, seating areas and the front porch( best part of the hotel) are unavailable for guests. At no time during my 3 calls for reservations did the staff mention this huge inconvenience!!

We have been visiting this hotel for many years and have always had wonderful stays - at least one stay each year for the past 10 years. This year was a major disappointment. After taking advantage of a winter sale (non-refundable rooms), we arrived to find the hotel being renovated. The lobby, bar and restaurant are all closed. These are the things that are the 'charm' of the property. It truly felt like a bait-and-switch scam the way this was handled. We were never notified of the construction and closures, nor was it on the website when we booked our rooms. Staff offered no solutions or even an apology. Plenty of other great hotels in the White Mountains - I recommend you check elsewhere before booking. On a positive note, the room we stayed in was what we expected - clean and comfortable. Just not worth the price if you can't use the property as we expected to.

Just returned from ANOTHER GREAT stay at the hotel. Yes, it is under renovation and everything is being done to not effect the experience. This is NOT a Hilton or Marriot. It is a beautiful old grand dame of yesteryear. She is Beautiful inside and out! I hope the renovations will reflect this. If you want modern inside old architecture, go to the Wentworth by the sea. It has been completely gutted and they stuffed a Marriot inside. Or go to the Woodstock inn where it was gutted and you think you are in Manhattan not Vermont. My greeting at check-in was warm and friendly, as was the rest of my interactions with the front desk. I enjoyed eating in the Crystal ballroom. I felt like I was at the Omni Mount Washington, minus the orchestra. I arrived with NO reservation but was quickly accommodated with a wonderful window view seat. My server (Brittaney) worked the room like she was on roller skates, all whilst smiling, and she was busy! The food was better than I had remembered. I actually think they have upped the quality. My room was clean and bright and the bed and linens were comfy. I got room service the second night and it came quickly and fresh. I was happy there was an 18% gratuity already added as I had no small bills to tip with. I look forward to a return visit to make use of a rocking chair on the grand veranda.

Hotel under major renovations and all restaurants are closed. What a joke it was never advertised when for a girls weekend away. The place is so dark and dreary. We checked out and went to another resort. Stay away.

Forever thankful for the staff at The Mountain View Grand! After accidentally leaving behind an important piece of jewelry, and not noticing till 6 hours after checking out, you can say there was a sense of stress. The staff took the time to go through all the dirty laundry until they found the item, which was like finding a needle in a haystack. Christina from the staff was most helpful and reassuring with our panic. The staff here is honest, and trusting. The resort was full of character that of a historic New England resort. The rooms along with the rest of the property were clean, kept up, and offered modern amenities. The on-site restaurant made a fantastic braised beef short rib, and the bar created some great espresso martinis for our dessert. We look forward to our next trip!
