We stayed for just one night last week and had a wonderful experience. The inn is located conveniently near Keene for dinner and Mount Manodnock for a day hike. We stayed in the Manor room which was spacious and clean. We slept very peacefully as it's located in a very quiet neighborhood. And then awoke to the smell of baked... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tartan Fox on March 31st-April 2nd because I am looking into a doctoral program at Antioch University. We wanted to get a sense of the area, since we will be moving up here if I am accepted. We stayed in the Blackwatch room and our time here was better than we could have... More

The wonderful Gourmet Breakfasts at the Tartan Fox are delectable! The scones and warm fruits were fall inspired and hit the spot. My husband I stayed in the Stewart room over several days the last weekend in October and into early November; we were quite cozy. We had come up North for visiting friends and family in the Swanzey and... More

I found the Tartan Fox online and am very glad I did! We stayed in the Stewart Room which was very clean and comfortable. i really liked the heated floor in the bathroom. After having Mike's delicious breakfast, we wished we were staying for more than one night. The cranberry/white chocolate scones were the best that I've ever had. The... More

Lovely place! Wonderful host. The common area on the first floor was comfortable and we spent some time there. The bedroom was great and the bed was comfortable. We have high standards for B&Bs and this one met almost all of them. I would have liked a small snack and drink when we arrived - and it may normally be... More

My husband and I were on our way home to western NY from a week's camping trip in Maine, and decided to split the trip into two days on the way home, staying at the Tartan Fox for fun. Our first visit to a B and B together, but we would definitely stay again. It was a super place. Room... More

Staying at the Tartan Fox is like staying at your Grandma's house - everything may not be new or in perfect condition, but the atomosphere is filled with friendliness and a welcoming spirit. Everything is comfortable and we had a wonderful stay. But clearly, what sets the Tartan Fox apart is Mike, the Inn Keeper, with his friendly conversation and... More

Heidi. So glad you enjoyed our 1832 Manor home, with it's antiques and unique beautiful woodwork. Mostly though Im abashed at your praise of our breakfasts. So very kind of you to leave such a glowing review. We do LOVE to cook, and it's nice to see our efforts were so very much appreciated. Hope to see you again!! More

Spent three nights. We stayed in the Manor Room which was bright, spacious, and had a comfortable queen bed. Loved the room, except our only minor inconvenience was no bedside lamps as we like to read at bedtime. Mike, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating. We had many wonderful conversations. Breakfasts were very good, especially the Eggs Benedict.

Chris. So glad you loved the Manor room. We will act on your suggestion and get a lamp next to the bed so folks can read in bed! Great suggestion. Look forward to your next visit. More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tartan Fox Inn is at The Meadmere Country Manor House located less than 10 minutes from Keene, giving you a rural setting while being close to shopping, restaurants, colleges, theater, hiking, bike trails. Four comfy rooms, each with a private bath, so you won't be sharing with other guests. They are decorated with Scottish Tartans, a different plaid for each room. This is the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire and is the perfect location for exploring surrounding towns and neighboring Vermont and Massachusetts. The inn has cable TV, wireless internet access for your computer and off street parking. With close ties to the local community, Mike has recently taken over the Inn. Local events, fun and frolicking in Keene is just min away!. Fresh eggs for your breakfast and homemade scones with jam are a separate food group! We can also accommodate special diets, such as gluten free with advance notice. Just let us know so your trip will be memorable, right down to the food. Our location gives you a nice country feel, yet you are only minutes to downtown Keene. We love gardening, but in our own way. You won't find rows of flowers lined up like soldiers, I take a more free hand approach. Volunteers grow where they pop up, weeds are pulled, and we try to have habitat that caters to our many species of song birds. The Meadmere Home is a gorgeous older structure that was built in 1832 and most recently housed the studio of Norma Stafford, an artistic icon to the Keene area. We enjoy keeping that tradition by maintaining a local artisan gift shoppe on the premises that showcases local Monadnock artistry. ... more   less
