This old historic HUGE home needs to be turned into a museum or sold now!!! The owners (5th generation brother and sister and no 6th generation) are clearly holding onto it for what reasons I will never know. They obviously do not want to to be hospitable and are very apathetic towards guests. My boyfriend and I felt unwelcome and... More

I visited Philbrook Farm Inn several times in the 1990's and was really looking forward to staying there again. What was once a vibrant, bustling, beautiful Inn is now a rundown old dump. From the overgrown weeds around the pool and grounds, the beautiful flower gardens now all but gone and full of weeds, to the steps and railings now... More

This is the best place ever. People are really nice. Place is by itself on a 900 acre land to go hiking in summer and cross skiing in winter. You can bring your dogs in the beautiful cottages. They are clean and well cared for. I been going there for 23 years.

We were happy to find PFI as nice as always. Value is great! We always hike, two-ten miles/day, think about a home in Northern NH, drive more than we like. PFI is a superb base from which to do all. We have fond memories of each visit. Dining system provides nice structure to day. Food is good quality, nicely presented.

This is a huge, old inn that has clearly had better days, which could easily be said for a number of us. It is large, well located and the quiet is really special. That being said it needs a major million dollar cleaning and updating. Its not perfect but Ann and Larry try hard to do well by their guests,... More

Our family has stayed at Philbrook Farm every year since 2000, a year after I stumbled upon the place at the end of a late autumn hike in 1999. The whole family loves it – all three generations. Usually we rent a big cottage on the grounds in the summer. In the late fall and winter we stay in the... More

If you want peace, tranquillity and quiet - this is the place to stay! You will not find luxuries such as air conditioning, television, internet and phone service or fancy soaps/shampoos, but you will find the peace and beauty of the White Mountains, plenty of hiking choices, the Androscoggin River at your fingertips; and the Inn (McKnight Room was our... Our family rented one of the outer cottages 'Briarcliff' this week. We arrived on Friday night & we have all left by today. The cottage is rustic, which is what we expected & looked forward to. What we did not expect, was mice running across the floors in plain sight, a drawer below the toaster filled with 'a mouse condo',... More

Let me preface this review by stating that I am originally from the surrounding Shelburn area and accustomed to rustic accommodations. Yet, there's a fine line between rustic and minimal standards of cleanliness/standards of living for any establishment that offers lodging. This past weekend we rented a house/cabin for the weekend (but paid for a week as they don't offer... More

“The McKnight room within the Inn is on the 2nd floor (no elevator) that faces the front of the Inn with the Mountains for a view, with a bay window that opens and offers a wonderful breeze (no air conditioning). Has a king (actually 2 twins put together) bed, separate but private bathroom with very old, but quite adequate facilities. Antiques galore throughout the Inn. Writing desk.”
