Common areas were quite messy from construction detritus and some were not air-conditioned. It was HOT. No breakfast available as advertised. Room furnishings were very tired and there are insufficient outlets available for today's digital traveler. Staff was not terribly hospitable. All in all, a very unsatisfying experience. Will not consider this hotel in the future at any price.

How disappointing. The photo shown here is a very deceptive depiction of this dismal hotel. It is currently under renovation (although there were signs posted inside which implied that the job had been stopped local building officials.) and every area I walked through was filthy, from the entry into the lobby, to a dark hallway (literally no actual lights, just small motion lights which lit up just AFTER I walked past them. I got like I was walking through a scene in a horror movie) along a construction hallway area which had to traversed to get to any room in the “west wing”. The floors were literally filthy, no one even trying to make this place presentable during this process. The elevator - filthy floor also) made nerve wracking bangs and vibrations as I rode i up.) We checked in around 9:00 on a Saturday night, so it’s not like it was in the middle of a construction work day. Worse than the construction mess, the hallway and room carpets were worn and dirty, hallway curtains by a lone window, shabby and worn, the room smelled musty, then, once we settled for the room (I was refused a refund before checking in once I saw the condition of the place) in which at least the king-size bed looked clean, when we had brought all our luggage up and tried to bolt outperform door for the night. The deadbolt would not lock - misaligned with the door jamb. The handle lock was also stubborn and the actual door handle came off in my husband’s hand! He managed to put it back on and just get it to catch by a hai and could not touch it again for fear of messing up the fragile catch. The A/C sounded like a helicopter landing outside our window every time the compressor came on, but at least it was cool. When I reported my disgust with the hotel to the desk clerk again in the morning, he made excuses, saying all websites stated that the hotel was under construction. That may be true, in the fine print - which I never noticed while booking, but this if som this was one poorly managed construction site. I told him I found it o be a sad and ill kept hotel, construction not withstanding. Shabby, dirty, even in areas that had nothing to do with the renovation or constructionI related mess. Door handle, dead bolt - a security issue. He said he was not in control of that. That’s maintenance’s job. I said, well then, to my point, your hotel is very poorly maintained. No response. No offer of any kind of good will compensation. I just want to relay that this place was a very poorly run and an overall yucky experience. Maybe someday it will be improved, but as for now, I would avoid it completely.

We booked this hotel to use the pool and hot tub prior to going out to downtown Portsmouth. We didn’t find out until after checking in that the hotel was under heavy renovations. There’s a hotel across the street that has a similar price and also has a pool. Anyway, the check in process was a pain. The rooms were dated. There is nobody at the front desk after midnight and the front doors are locked. They only allow access to the side door after midnight. The next morning there was no front desk. This place used to be pretty good, but not worth the price anymore.

Our first room we got the neighbors upstairs sounded like wild animals. Then we switched rooms that room wasn't any better no extra towels as I wanted no do not disturb sign housekeeping walked in. We stayed next to Jekyll and Hyde not showering the place was full of crack heads with their dogs. Seriously why let people with dogs in. Loud ass inconsiderate people all over the place slamming doors left and right constantly the pool is demolished no notice the hot tub demolished no hot tub in the room. The website's misleading , Portsmouth water smells and tastes funny you might as well stay home. You might as well stay at the econo Lodge at least it's nicer and the water doesn't taste funny.

We were given a room when we arrived, it was pretty much below ground. It smelled like a basement, musty. We went to the front desk and asked for a room change. They gave us a new room a floor up. Not much of an upgrade but at least above ground level. They have a fan pumping citrus into the hall to try and cover the smell. Our sink dripped constantly, could not shut it off. It also clogged every time we washed our hands. The shower was dirty and the fiberglass was peeling off. We were given 1 bath towel. There was gum stuck to our headboard. The outside was filthy, cigarette butts everywhere. I was charged an additional $50 for my dog. The place wasn’t clean enough for my dog to stay. The photo’s on the website are for another location. Very misleading. I tried emailing my concerns along with photo’s and heard nothing back.

Sketchy people, shady management, random dogs that run out at pedestrians off leash, a crap "Continental" breakfast with a nasty waffle maker, expired oatmeal and a dollar-mart half sausage biscuit, weakest coffee you'll ever drink and a nasty, half broken "juice" machine that doesn't give real juice, just concentrate from a filthy water filter that you can see and gag at. If you want a 1970's hotel that has all the crap, mold, dirt and filth stored up until 2022, this is your place. Otherwise, you're better off sleeping under the overpass.

We spent two nights. The room, upon entering, was extremely stuffy and had an aroma. I brought air freshener with me and that solved that issue. The bathroom is tiny! Seriously, you have to step into the tub in order to close the door! The hair dryer didn't work and one of the inset lighting on the ceiling was blinking. The furniture looked new but there are NO USB ports available and inadequate plugs fixtures. The bed was comfortable for my husband but not me. Too hard. The breakfast was supposed to open at 6 am but we were told 7 am. Also, they had an issue with the regular coffee machine so it was out of service for a day! Also, there was NO maid service to given to our room. The employees were in the hallway but never turned over our towels. Good thing we had some! Anyhow, it's my experience. You make your own choice if you stay here.

This is a nice old hotel that has been taken care of over the years. It's not new, and doesn't compare to a brand new major brand hotel, but neither does the price! The staff was friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was, OK. Covid limited, but OK. If you're looking for a good nights sleep without breaking the bank this is good place to stay.

I booked a last minute trip to Portsmouth for Memorial Day weekend. The area chain Hotels were way overpriced. The Anchorage was reasonably priced and in the same area as the others. The rooms are large and updated. Bathroom was also large, clean and updated. The location was good and less than 10 minutes to the outlets in Kittery and Downtown. A few negative things, the hotel is very close to I-95 and right off the exit so you could hear traffic noise. The other thing is some of the first floor rooms are actually more ground level and the windows are smaller and located high in the room. Otherwise a great value.
