We just stayed overnight at this historical, classic Victorian hotel, which was updated in 2014 in a modern style. Our room on the second floor was spacious and comfortable (no view), which served its purpose since it’s located on a very quiet street yet a quick walk to the lovely shops and terrific restaurants downtown. The hotel was very clean and provided a nice “takeout” breakfast packed in a bag. There was plenty of free parking in the hotel’s parking lot, which is really convenient for a city location. The TV was quite large and even included HBO in addition to a large range of channels. Only issue was the lack of professional attitude/appearance of the desk clerk who greeted us wearing a belly shirt and didn’t provide any information about the hotel’s history (we got the feeling she was more interested in returning to the back room where she appeared from after calling her on the reception phone). We recommend the hotel for its great location, especially if you just need an overnight stay.

My name is Mrs. Andrew C. and I am a Portsmouthaholic. We have been going to Portsmouth for 6 years but haven't been since last October. This was our first stay at The Hotel Portsmouth. Negatives first: 1) Thin walls. Heard other guests' conversations verbatim. 2) Icky view - on the other hand - we had a dog with us, and were gifted with immediate access to the outside. Icky view is a VERY small price to pay. The positives are many and outweigh the paltry two negatives: In the time leading up to our stay, we had changed our reservation 3 times - due to health and Covid - and we had a certificate (the hotel generously donated to a nonprofit auction) which had expired. Without hesitation, the Hotel graciously extended the date. Contrary to what I thought, the hotel was just as easy a walk to town as is the Sheraton. Literally a handful of minutes. The room (a dog-friendly room) was large and comfy (though, call us unworldly but we had never seen a shower we had to figure out how to use). Fast and forceful sink outside the bathroom PERFECT for filling a dog's water dish. Comfy complimentary robes. They have awesome tea and coffee and the freshest water (ordered a case of the tea off of Amazon before we checked out). Breakfast in Covid times was a brown bag ("one bag per room"), so a split-a-blueberry-muffin and split-a-yogurt and split-an-orange but you'll-both-get-hard-boiled-eggs and there was one fruit cup to split. It actually sufficed and if it hadn't - breakfast available in so many places a quick walk away. As you enter from the back of the building, there is a refurbished funky phone booth which amused the heck out of me. The elevator to the check-in is fine but you'll later learn the stairs are a breeze and infinitely faster and easier if you're not carrying bulky luggage. If a dog-friendly room is this good, we can't wait to stay in a room without our canine best bud. The staff was super-friendly and attentive. This was our first LARK hotel experience. The Hotel Portsmouth does them proud and we are already looking forward to return at some point when the pandemic has resolved. Bravo! Grateful!

We came right when they opened up during the 4'th of July weekend. I cannot say enough good things about the property. The management was very responsive and helpful. Because many things were closed because of Covid, we relied on the staff to keep us current with hours and operations of restaurants and coffee shops. They also gave us a great tip on booking a sailing excursion. The room was clean and any time we needed something they arranged for it to be left outside the room (such as clean towels). Also, the hotel was great in providing a great breakfast which is remarkable under the circumstances. The yogurt mixed with honey and fresh fruit was superb and the muffins they provided were filling and tasty. They even added a nice balsamic drizzle to their cut up egg container-nice touch. My wife does not drink caffeinated coffee and they brewed fresh decaf every day. This was our third trip to the property and we have recommended it to friends. A great location with plenty of parking. A total gem and we will be back.

Stopped in Portsmouth for a one night stay. It was perfect. The staff was incredible, I wish I knew the names of the two gentlemen so I could mention them. The building, both old and new addition, is very cool and has beautiful decorations, as well as wonderful art. I grew up in an art gallery, and I was very impressed by the decor. The room was beautiful and the perfect size for a travelling family. I stayed in a king suite. The natural lighting during the day was great, which is really something I look for and enjoy. The beds were so comfortable I didn't even want to go to breakfast, but I'm glad I did! The pastries, meat and cheese plates, and great coffee were exactly what I needed! It was only a 3 minute walk to my favorite restaurants in town, and on site parking was a huge plus. I absolutely loved everything about my stay! 10/10!
