The hotel is close to everything you’d want to do in Portsmouth, a few minute walk to most places in general. The concierge was very helpful and the texting/call option was very convenient and staff were responsive. They had extras like robes, an umbrella, fans. All in all great place to stay !

Property's Favorite Review
We had a wonderful stay in Portsmouth at the Ale house. We we greeted by Aiden who was very helpful in explaining how our electronic key cards worked, that was new for us. We also got in early because our room was ready. He also pointed out where the extra towels and some other amenities where located like complimentary toothpaste and deodorant. Our room was clean and cozy. The central air was down but the portable units were just perfect, very comfortable and cool. We enjoyed the coffee bar with cold and hot nitro coffee as well as some snacks . You cant beat the location walking distance to everything. We were going to a concert at Prescott park which was a short 5 min walk. I highly recommend the Ale house. We will be back.

This hotel suited our needs very well and was in a fantastic location for walking to restaurants, shopping, etc. The rooms/bathrooms are quite small, but it was just fine for us since we weren't in our room much anyway. There wasn't many amenities, but there was coffee on tap which was wonderful and we really enjoyed. They also had free snacks in the lobby. We would definitely stay here again.

Not a lot of amenities or great features of this hotel. If you need a room with a view or a fun place to hang out this is not a great option for you. The room was clean and comfortable, but very basic. Think of the Ale House as a good home base between outings in Portsmouth and the surrounding area. This hotel is very much self service with little or no staff, no daily housekeeping, and a do it yourself coffee bar. (which is awesome) The best part of the hotel is the location. Easy access to highways to take you up and down the coast, and everything in Downtown Portsmouth is just a few minutes walk. There are lots of great restaurants and cafes just a few steps away. Parking is $30 per day. For us this hotel worked, the price was right and the room provided what we needed for a nice getaway on the coast.

Our room was fabulous! The bed was most comfortable, the Wi-Fi was fast, the location was central to downtown, the restaurants were outstanding, and the coffee was excellent! The check in process (all digital) turned out to be easy and fast. We would definitely stay here again!

Pros: Excellent Bow Street location above the Seacost Repertory Theatre and very walkable. The room was spacious (number 7) and had views of downtown and the river and bridges due to its corner location. Staff was polite and friendly, and Chechen and checkout were both completely contactless. The bed was both big and comfortable, and we appreciated the in room mini refrigerator.. The cons: We were there for four nights, and not once did housekeeping clean our room, by the end of our stay we had a large pile of dirty towels and overflowing trash bins. I tried to contact the front desk, but it was always empty during the day. The shower head was beyond disgusting. We had to go to CVS to buy an anti-mildew cleaner to spray it, let it soak and attempt to clean it. Despite our efforts, the holes were still black. The light switch in the bathroom was also broken. Instead of replacing it, it had a had written note next to it saying to lift and hold for two to three seconds, not something you’d expect when your nightly rate was over $400. The central air was also down in the building, so the room had a very large and noisy floor unit, though thankfully we only had to use it the first night. Lastly, if you have luggage, the building is not ADA compatible, as you must walk up a large staircase to get to the door. The elevator is also the slowest thing in the world. All in all, it was an enjoyable stay. Portsmouth is fantastic, but when we visit again, we’ll likely seek different accommodation.

Located on Bow St so this is a fantastic location in town. Lobby has cool vibe, hot and cold brew coffee and teas. (could use some granola bars, only junk food available). Our room was clean, decent space, partial view of bridge to Maine. #5. Checked in late with open key app, so easy. Host answered all texts super quickly. I would definitely stay here next time!

I was under the impression that this place had something special or unique to offer. I thought it was going to be historical or have a pub. It’s 10 very simple rooms above a community theater. You must climb many (12?) stairs to get to the elevator. There’s no staff, which I did know about. The rooms are minimal and small. It is close to town but not the most centralized. The positive: the room we had was cheap and clean.

This place had a very Airbnb/hostel kind of feel. There was no staff present when we arrived so it was self check-in. The lobby/common area on our floor was very cute. The decor was very cozy and had a nautical feel. Unfortunately there was an alarm going off in the hallway which was kind of annoying (thankfully we couldn't hear it in our room). The room itself was nice. It was clean and decorated nicely. I ended up sleeping on the pull-out sofa bed, which was kind of lumpy but ok. There were plenty of nice restaurants nearby, and thankfully a few of them were open till 9pm because we got in pretty late. A word of warning: there's limited parking so we ended parking at a garage a few blocks away (it ended up costing about $30 for the night). For those with limited mobility, keep in mind that there are stairs at the entrance.
